Jerome Corsi, WND: “AG nominee eyed in massive Obama cover-up”

Thx Ted!

“Loretta Lynch tied to world’s biggest banking scandal

“NEW YORK – Attorney general nominee Loretta Lynch could be facing new confirmation problems in the U.S. Senate after being tied to the world’s biggest banking scandal, involving HSBC, which used its power to temporarily shut down as the news site was breaking a series of stories on the mega-bank’s money-laundering practices – practices that resulted in more than $1.2 billion in fines

“According to court papers filed Wednesday, Eric Holder’s Department of Justice appears to be stonewalling the release of documents that could implicate Lynch in a massive cover-up of Obama administration involvement in international money-laundering of Mexican cartel drug money. “In 2012, Lynch, as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, oversaw the investigation of drug-related international money laundering allegations against London-based HSBC Holdings LLC. . .”

George Will, NRO: “Education Is for the States

“Senator Lamar Alexander is pushing to get the federal government out of the curriculum business

“In 1981, Tennessee’s 41-year-old governor proposed to President Ronald Reagan a swap: Washington would fully fund Medicaid and the states would have complete responsibility for primary and secondary education. Reagan, a former governor, was receptive. But Democrats, who controlled the House and were beginning to be controlled by teachers’ unions (the largest, the National Education Association, had bartered its first presidential endorsement, of Jimmy Carter, for creation of the Department of Education) balked.

In 1992, the former Tennessee governor was President George H.W. Bush’s secretary of education. He urged Bush to veto proposed legislation to expand federal involvement in K-12 education. He said it would create “at least the beginnings of a national school board that could make day-to-day school decisions on curriculum, discipline, teacher training, textbooks and classroom materials.” The veto threat derailed the legislation.

“Today this former governor and former secretary (and former president of the University of Tennessee), Senator Lamar Alexander, is chairman of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. He is seeking 60 Senate votes to, he says, ‘reverse the trend toward a national school board,’ which the Education Department has become.

Time was, before Congress acted on any subject, it asked: Is this a legitimate concern of the federal government? The ‘legitimacy barrier’ (a phrase coined by James Q. Wilson) collapsed 50 years ago, particularly with passage of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, of which No Child Left Behind (2002) was the twelfth major reauthorization.

“NCLB mandated that by 2014, every school would have 100 percent proficiency in reading and math. So, Alexander says, “almost every one” of America’s approximately 100,000 public schools are officially failures. This, he says, exacerbates “the irresistible temptation of well-meaning Washington officials” to assert a duty for Washington to approve schools’ academic standards (hence Common Core), define success, determine how to evaluate teachers, and stipulate what to do about failing schools. . .”

Kevin Williamson, NRO: “The Brute-Force Left

“The Left lost the argument, but is determined to win the fight.

“There has been a great deal of overblown talk about the alleged “libertarian moment” that the United States is experiencing just about now, and there is a reason that the Right, broadly speaking, has taken an intellectual turn in the libertarian direction. The first and most important is the ascendance of Barack Obama, whose vision of effectively unlimited government gives conservatives the willies. But there are deeper reasons, too: The Right believes, not without some reason, that the main reason we ended up with a disastrous Obama-Pelosi-Reid triumvirate government — the brief years of which imposed damage that will take much longer to undo — had to do with the foreign policy of George W. Bush and the fiscal incontinence of congressional Republicans during the Bush years. While the Obama administration has not yet produced a superior foreign-policy operating model, the Bush approach is not really looking any better in retrospect, at least in the sense that it would be difficult to say with a straight face that Iraq, Afghanistan, or the broader Middle East look today like more tractable problems than they did in 2001, or like they might become more tractable. On the domestic front, abortion has effectively calcified into a modus vivendi (more accurately, a horrifying modus mortis), and the new lion of the social issues, gay marriage, is a wet kitten by comparison, in that no sensible, non-fanatical person thinks of gay marriage as being as urgent an issue as abortion.

“All of those are relevant, but consider one further, broader dynamic at work: The Right is finally coming around to the understanding that what mainly distinguishes it from the Left is not its general preference for muscular foreign policy, its not always convincing defense of the Judeo-Christian tradition, or even its relatively faithful reading of the Constitution, as important as those things are. Rather, the fight between Right and Left is about coercion. . .”

Jordan Schachtel, National Security: “The Muslim Brotherhood Comes to the White House”

“The Obama White House has finally released the names of the fourteen Muslim “leaders” who met with the President this past week. Among the group — which included a comedian, along with a hijab-wearing basketball player and a handful of left wing activists — were a select few individuals with disturbingly close ties to the global Muslim Brotherhood.

As previously uncovered by Breitbart News, the White House confirmed that Azhar Azeez, President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), was one of the Muslim leaders that met with President Obama. ISNA was founded in 1981 by members of the Muslim Brotherhood. The group was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial. Federal prosecutors have previously described how ISNA funneled its money to Palestinian terrorist group Hamas (via Investigative Project):

“ISNA checks deposited into the ISNA/NAIT account for the HLF were often made payable to ‘the Palestinian Mujahadeen,’ the original name for the HAMAS military wing. Govt. Exh. 1-174. From that ISNA/NAIT account, the HLF sent hundreds of thousands of dollars to HAMAS leader…

“Azeez’s bio also reveals him as a founding member the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter. CAIR has also allegedly funneled money to Palestinian terror groups and was also started by members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

“In October, 2014, Azeez signed a letter endorsing Sharia Islamic governance. Under the Sharia, non-Muslims are treated as second-class citizens. The Sharia also endorses the hudud punishments in the Koran and Hadiths, which state that apostasy from Islam is punishable by death.

“Hoda Elshishtawy of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) was also in attendance at the Muslim leaders’ meeting with President Obama.

“MPAC, just like CAIR and ISNA, was founded by members of the Muslim Brotherhood. The group has written and often endorsed a paper rejecting the United States’s designation of Hezbollah and Hamas as terrorist organizations, and has insisted that the Jewish state of Israel be added as a state sponsor of terrorism. The group’s former president, Salam al-Marayati, has publicly encouraged officials to look at Israel as a suspect in the 9/11/01 attacks.

“He has said that Hezbollah’s attacks against Israel should be seen as ‘legitimate resistance.’ In a 1998 speech at the National Press Club, an MPAC senior official described the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah as one that fights for “American values.” In an MPAC-sponsored March 2009 protest to “Defend al-Aqsa Mosque and al-Quds,” participants could be heard chanting slogans encouraging Palestinians to wipe out Israel. “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” demonstrators chanted.

“Mohamed Majid, who serves as Imam of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS), was also in attendance at the White House meeting with the President, and senior advisors Ben Rhodes and Valerie Jarrett. . .”

Michael Ledeen, PJM: “Obama’s in Bed with the Pope, Tony Blair, Ruth Benedict, the UN and Most Universities

“There was nothing particularly new about President Obama’s remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast the other day, and most of the opinion makers and shapers who feigned outrage are late to the issue.  Not that it’s unimportant.  It’s extremely important.  But the unfortunate notion that all religions, and indeed all cultures, are morally equivalent has been with us a long time, and it’s very fashionable.  It’s now the conventional wisdom, as a matter of fact.

“I’m not going to dwell on the silly anachronisms and false parallels in the speech–Governor Jindal did it best, I think, when he told the president to relax about medieval Catholicism and focus his concerns on contemporary Islamism–but rather on what we’re supposed to do when we encounter religious views that offend us, or seem threatening to us.   Obama basically said we should just shut up:. . .”

David Goldman, PJM: “Obama’s ‘Secret Iran Strategy’ Began in 2006 with Robert Gates

“Over at Mosaic Magazine, former Bush aide Michael Doran claims that the Obama administration has had a secret strategy to engage Iran from the time it took office. He’s right, but neglected to mention that George W. Bush and his national security advisor, Condoleezza Rice, adopted the same strategy from the same source in November 2006, after the Republicans got crushed in the 2006 congressional elections. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld got a pink slip, Vice President Dick Cheney got benched, and “realist” Robert Gates–the co-chairman of the 2004 Council on Foreign Relations task force that advocated a deal with Iran–took over at Defense. Michael Doran reports all of this, all, that is, except Gates’ central role in the plan. That would place a good deal of the blame at Bush’s doorstep.

“Writes Doran:

‘When he arrived in Washington in 2006, [Obama] absorbed a set of ideas that had incubated on Capitol Hill during the previous three years—ideas that had received widespread attention thanks to the final report of the Iraq Study Group, a bipartisan congressional commission whose co-chairs, former secretary of state James Baker and former Indiana congressman Lee Hamilton, interpreted their mission broadly, offering advice on all key aspects of Middle East policy.’

“The report, published in December 2006, urged then-President Bush to take four major steps: withdraw American troops from Iraq; surge American troops in Afghanistan; reinvigorate the Arab-Israeli “peace process”; and, last but far from least, launch a diplomatic engagement of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its junior partner, the Assad regime in Syria.

“All correct, except that the 2006 congressional report was a carbon copy of the Council on Foreign Relations report of 2004, written under the supervision of Gates and Zbigniew Brzezinski, Jimmy Carter’s national security advisor. . .”

ArizonaCentral: “Incompetent VA is still flubbing care”

“Our View: The agency isn’t fixing poor care for veterans. It’s compounding the problems.

“The greatest fear among reformers of the Veterans Affairs hospital system has been that the behemoth bureaucracy simply will wait them out.

“Let the months and years pass. Let the outrage subside. Let the reform-minded lawmakers and the whistle-blowers move on to other things.

“It turns out, however, that there is something else to dread — something that may be just as much of an impediment to improving our veterans’ health-care as bureaucratic inertia.

“And that is: incompetence. In some cases, as in the VA’s vile attempt to scuttle Sen. John McCain’s medical-voucher program, an exquisitely malevolent form of incompetence.

“Faced with a quality-of-care scandal, the VA is proving incapable of addressing some of its grossest flaws, especially in urology care. . .”

John Simerman, New Orleans Advocate: “NBC News anchor Brian Williams’ comments about dead bodies, Hurricane Katrina starting to gain attention, draw scrutiny”

Williams & Rather, Clinton & Gruber, Kerry & Cronkite, and even Islamists are known to have baked the news and, thereby, attempted to change our history. Lying, the stuff that we get on the news, is probably an outcome of genomic events that put a verbal, feminine (?) spin on early (and later!) development. . . yes, I’m finishing a book!

New details: Katrina photos show water did surround Ritz-Carlton, where NBC anchor Brian Williams stayed

“Original story:

“NBC News anchor Brian Williams, who apologized on the air Wednesday night for lying about an experience covering the Iraq War, is now facing scrutiny over his gripping accounts of Hurricane Katrina, the disaster that burnished his nightly news bona fides almost a decade ago.

“Related story: Brian Williams’ credibility questions after fake Iraq story

“Williams’ account of seeing a body float by in the French Quarter — which remained largely dry — and even a claim of catching dysentery from drinking Katrina floodwaters have raised eyebrows among bloggers and elsewhere since he took it on the chin this week over a claim that he rode in a helicopter that was downed by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq.

“I was instead in a following aircraft. We all landed after the ground fire incident and spent two harrowing nights in a sandstorm in the Iraq desert,” Williams said Wednesday. He painted his earlier description as a “bungled attempt” to thank an Iraq War veteran.

“The online feeding frenzy quickly turned to the 55-year-old anchor’s signature assignment: covering Katrina from before it made landfall, when he spent the night of the storm with refuge-seekers in the Superdome and then reported on the harrowing days that followed.

“When you look out of your hotel window in the French Quarter and watch a man float by face down, when you see bodies that you last saw in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, and swore to yourself that you would never see in your country,” Williams said in a 2006 interview. . .”

Rich Lowry, RCP: “The Return of Evil”

“. . . What is it about the word “evil” that so offends the Left?

“It smacks of a religious worldview that makes secularists uncomfortable. It sets up a natural opposition between good and evil — what experts dissecting Bush called a ‘binary discourse’ — that is altogether too confident in our own virtue, according to the Left. It doesn’t necessarily entail any particular policy response, but it tilts toward a total commitment to fighting the enemy, since a campaign to ‘degrade’ evil feels inherently inadequate.

“If Bush was ill-served at times by his stubbornness and certainty, it’s always worth remembering that Democrats were perfectly content to lose to al-Qaeda in Iraq when Bush was ordering the surge in 2007, and Obama’s insistence on pulling out of Iraq entirely was a priceless boon to the Islamic State.

“Obama was allegedly the embodiment of a wholly different approach than Bush, much more nuanced than his predecessor and his embarrassing nomenclature of ‘evil.’ Yet Obama’s doubts were more about the usefulness and goodness of American power than about his own purposes. He pursued the “end” of the Bush-era wars at all costs, regardless of the depravity of the forces on the ground who would benefit.

“We were supposed to be beyond good versus evil, although the other side didn’t get the memo and never left the field. It’s almost as if the greatest trick evil ever played was persuading the Left not to call it by its proper name.”

Mark Levin Show, 2/6/15

“The greatest political threat young people face in this nation is Barack Obama. They’ll have to spend their entire lifetimes trying to recover from what he is doing to this country, despite claiming to be doing it in their name. Obama claims, in a speech Friday, that we are the government but his policies aren’t about us. They’re about restricting and controlling us to fit the leftist ideology. Also, illegal immigrants will receive earned income tax credit from the IRS because of amnesty bonuses in the tax codes, getting upwards to $24,000 in tax credits. Later, the White House was never bypassed in inviting Benjamin Netanyahu to a joint session of congress. Obama and his administration were informed in advance and did nothing about it, and now they’re in seek and destroy mode. If you challenge Obama he will try to destroy you, just like he did to Jack Ryan while running for Senate. His political hit squad now has Netanyahu in their sights and want to silence him. Finally Star Parker calls in to discuss Obama’s Christianity bashing at the National Prayer Breakfast and her new book, Blind Conceit.”

Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather: Weather or not!

“The worst travel conditions will be along the New York Thruway and Southern Tier Expressway, the Massachusetts Turnpike, Interstate 84, I-88, I-91, I-93, I-95 from north of New York City to Maine and I-81 in northern Pennsylvania and New York state.

“Minor travel delays are likely farther to the south on the fringe of the early week storm from Chicago to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. A few locations in this swath can pick up a coating to an inch of snow and slush.

“The bulk of the snow will exit the Northeast Monday night, but some snow will linger in part of eastern New England and the Appalachians into Tuesday. . .”

Christopher Booker, UK Telegraph: “The fiddling with temperature data is the biggest science scandal ever”

Thx Ted!

“New data shows that the “vanishing” of polar ice is not the result of runaway global warming

“When future generations look back on the global-warming scare of the past 30 years, nothing will shock them more than the extent to which the official temperature records – on which the entire panic ultimately rested – were systematically “adjusted” to show the Earth as having warmed much more than the actual data justified.

“Two weeks ago, under the headline “How we are being tricked by flawed data on global warming”, I wrote about Paul Homewood, who, on his Notalotofpeopleknowthat blog, had checked the published temperature graphs for three weather stations in Paraguay against the temperatures that had originally been recorded. In each instance, the actual trend of 60 years of data had been dramatically reversed, so that a cooling trend was changed to one that showed a marked warming.

“This was only the latest of many examples of a practice long recognised by expert observers around the world – one that raises an ever larger question mark over the entire official surface-temperature record. . .”

VF Patriots: February 13th Meeting

We have invited Rick Loughrey who heads up the area Young Republicans based out of West Chester to come for a “social” visit. He plans to bring other YR’s  to visit with us so that we can learn more about what they do, what their mission is, and how we might encourage more younger folks to join us in our endeavors.

Rick is also our Chester County Recorder of Deeds.  He will be running for re-election this coming Fall and I’m sure he would welcome our support.

The VFP is concerned about the president’s over-reaching, unconstitutional actions on amnesty.  Therefore, in line with our goal to be action oriented, we will have a post card writing blitz as part of our meeting. You will be provided with “talking points” or you can create your own.  The post cards will go to our new Congressman, Ryan Costello, who was elected in November to fill Jim Gerlach’s seat in the 6th District and also to Congressman Pat Meehan of PA 7th District.
