“President Obama on Friday night returned to his core 2008 themes of hope and change, telling Democratic party loyalists that he intends to challenge ‘cynical politics’ during his final two years office. . .” Ben Wolfgang Pam Geller: $10,000 Muhammad Art and Cartoon Contest to be Held at Site of ‘Stand with the Prophet’ Conference in Texas

By Bob Price, Breitbart, Feb 2015

“Pamela Geller is planning a ‘Draw the Prophet’ event in Garland, Texas in the same location as a Muslim group held a ‘Stand with the Prophet’ conference in January. The First Annual Muhammad Art Exhibit and Contest will be hosted by the Curtis Caldwell Center, which is owned and operated by the Garland Independent School District.

“Geller’s event comes on the wake of the Islamic terrorist attack on the French magazine Charlie Hebdo in January. Following the attack, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) scheduled the “Stand with the Prophet” conference at the public school district’s conference center. Geller, the President of the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), scheduled a protest outside the event that was attended by approximately 2,000 people.

“During the Free Speech Rally in Garland, Geller spoke with Breitbart Texas about her reaction to the large and loud crowd of protesters. She said that Muslims are trying to impose restrictions on free speech like they are doing in Paris. ‘Thousands of Americans said ‘no way!’’

“‘The media can smear us and the President can stand with them,’ Geller said. ‘We the people are not having it. If there is any proof of that, it’s today. We dwarfed them.’

‘If the Western media ran the Danish cartoons back when this Islamic supremacist movement first started gaining steam, the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo would be alive today,’ Geller stated in response to an inquiry from Breitbart Texas. ‘That said, the European press ran the Hebdo cartoons in the wake of that jihad slaughter. But the American press would not. The beacon of freedom, the shining light on a hill, is running scared. Well, that’s not who we are. The elites do not represent the people.’

“‘Enough is enough,’ she explained. ‘They’re just cartoons. We’re holding this exhibit and cartoon contest to show how insane the world has become — with people in the free world tiptoeing in terror around supremacist thugs who actually commit murder over cartoons. If we can’t stand up for the freedom of speech, we will lose it — and with it, free society.’

“The art exhibit and contest will be held at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland on May 3rd.  This was the site of a Muslim conference denouncing ‘Islamophobia’ — an obscene stand for them to take after the Charlie Hebdo massacre – and our massive Free Speech Rally outside that event,’ Geller wrote in a press release obtained by Breitbart Texas.

“The contest will take submissions online and the winner will be announced at the event in Garland. The winning cartoonist will receive a $10,000 prize. The exhibit will feature images of Islam’s prophet in both historical and contemporary settings. There will also be a series of speeches by internationally renowned free-speech advocates.

“Geller explained that the art exhibit is the next logical step following AFDI’s Free Speech Rally in Garland. ‘This event will stand for free speech and show that Americans will not be cowed by violent Islamic intimidation,’ she stated. ‘That is a crucial stand to take as Islamic assaults on the freedom of speech, our most fundamental freedom, are growing more insistent.’

“‘Of course, this event will require massive security,’ she assured potential attendees. ‘But this exhibit has to be staged. If we don’t show the jihadis that they will not frighten us into silence, the jihad against freedom will only grow more virulent.’

“An author and activist with passionate fans and detractors, Geller has been sounding the alarm about Muslim encroachment into Europe and America and the possible impact on American culture in the future. The Free Speech Rally Geller organized is one of many activities she has created to shine the light on radical Islam and the teachings of Imam’s in mosques in the United States.  In June, 2010, Geller organized and led a group of approximately 5,000 protesters (Geller released this estimate) to march on the site of the site of the proposed ‘Ground Zero Mosque.’

“Eventually, plans for the mosque were cancelled.

“Geller is also listed as an ‘Extremist’ on the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) website. The SPLC says she is the ‘anti-Muslim movement’s most visible and flamboyant figurehead. She’s relentlessly shrill and coarse in her broad-based denunciations of Islam.’ The organization also lists AFDI as an anti-Muslim hate group.”

Victor Davis Hanson, PJM: “The Reckoning

“Let us start our grand tour of an increasingly out-of-control world in Russia. Putin plays a two-bit Hitler in trying to gobble up his neighbors. The West responds with  a one-bit imitation of 1930s Britain and France. ISIS reminds us that beheading and human incineration are contemporary, not premodern, practices. The only difference is that we video them on iPhones now rather hear rumors about them by word of mouth a year later.

“Jews are wise to leave Europe in the manner that some of the lucky got out in the 1930s. The danger is not that we are facing a sudden war on any one front, but that all these fronts — the former Soviet republics, the Islamic caliphate in Iraq and Syria, the roaming Islamic terrorist gangsters inside the West, and the Iranian soon-to-be-nuclear co-prosperity sphere from Yemen to Lebanon — are combining to create chaos as the new normal.

“Whole swaths of the globe are becoming badlands that sane people avoid — the former Soviet republics, Russia, the Middle East, North Africa, Persia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Cuba, and perhaps soon Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus — as if they were the national no-go-zone versions of our own New Orleans or Detroit.

“Ceding prior U.S. influence to regional hegemons — China in Asia, Russia in the former Soviet Union, ISIS and Iran in the Middle East — is turning the world into a pre-globalized Wild West. Think of travel plans. See the Parthenon? But will Greece be bankrupt and on strike from the airport to the Acropolis? See the Dead Sea? Will the rockets come in from Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon, or Iran? See South America? Tiptoe around the mess in Argentina, Nicaragua, Peru, or Venezuela. See Paris or Copenhagen? Just don’t walk near a synagogue or kosher market. See St. Petersburg? Make sure there is not the next war nearby in Tallinn. See Turkey? The Hagia Sophia will probably be a mosque again soon.

“The American Economy?

“Hardly confidence there either. . .”

Stephen Moore, Washington Times: “Affordable care that isn’t affordable”

“Despite the president’s promises, health care costs are going up

“If there were a contest for the biggest lie in Washington over the past 30 years, it would be hard to compete with President Obama’s boast that he would put 30 million more Americans on Medicaid and Obamacare subsidies, and this would reduce the budget deficit. That’s got to be right up there with President Clinton declaring, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.”

A new Congressional Budget Office report has blown the lid off the Obama whopper fib. The Congressional Budget Office reports that through the first four months of fiscal 2015, federal spending is rising at an 8.2 percent clip. Most components of spending are relatively flat and national defense outlays — the most important function of government — are falling. Still, one area accounts for almost the entire budget blowout: Obamacare.

Medicaid spending is up a stratospheric 23 percent so far this year thanks to massive new enrollments. In addition, the $7 billion in Obamacare “exchange subsidies” so far this year brings the rise in costs of the ‘Affordable’ Care Act to nearly 30 percent. In one year. And in an era of almost no inflation. Obamacare has turned out to be, just as feared, the largest expansion of government since the Great Society.

This stampede of rising health costs was so predictable that most budget experts acknowledged — even liberals, privately — costs would spike when the new health law insurance subsidies kicked in. It had to happen. How could we possibly put tens of millions more Americans on Medicaid and other taxpayer assistance and also save money at the same time? It was a laughable claim that Team Obama somehow reiterated time and again — and they even managed to keep a straight face.

Jon Terbush, Fox: “John Boehner on Fox News: I’m ‘certainly’ willing to let Homeland Security funding lapse”

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Sunday said he would allow funding for the Department of Homeland Security to lapse if the Senate can’t approve the spending bill passed by the House.

“‘Certainly,’ he said when Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace asked if he was prepared to let the funding expire at the end of the month. ‘The House has acted. We’ve done our job.’

“The House passed a bill to fund DHS beyond February, but with strings attached to scuttle President Obama’s immigration order. Senate Democrats have filibustered the bill in the upper chamber because they oppose the amendments blocking funding for Obama’s plan.”

Caroline May, Big Govt: “Sen. Sessions Releases Lengthy Timeline of Obama Administration’s Dismantling of Immigration Law”

“As Republicans work to overcome a Democratic filibuster of a House-passed Department of Homeland Security bill that blocks President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is highlighting the Obama administration’s long history of dismantling immigration laws.

“In a lengthy timeline released Monday, Sessions — the chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest — lists every instance of the Obama administration ignoring, rewriting, delaying and breaking the nation’s immigration laws.

“The timeline begins in January 2009 with the administration ending worksite enforcement actions and, 50 pages later, ends on February 13, 2015 with the House Judiciary Committee’s revelation that the administration included a ‘sneaky’ avenue for illegal immigrants granted deferred status to be placed on a pathway to citizenship.

“Sessions’ list comes at a pivotal point in Republicans’ fight to preserve the nation’s immigration laws. In November, after the midterm elections, Obama announced he would provide unilateral amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. . .”

Roger Kimball, PJM: “The Swedes and the Clash of Civilizations

Gregory Clark (2014, “The Son Also Rises”) tells us that Sweden has the most social programs, all of them ineffective at increasing personal outcomes . . . no different from England or even China . . .

“The indispensable Gatestone Institute reports on some very disturbing news out of Sweden.

In 1975, the Swedish parliament unanimously decided to change the former homogeneous Sweden into a multicultural country. Forty years later the dramatic consequences of this experiment emerge: violent crime has increased by 300%.

“If one looks at the number of rapes, however, the increase is even worse. In 1975, 421 rapes were reported to the police; in 2014, it was 6,620. That is an increase of 1,472%.

“That makes Sweden the rape capital of the West, second globally to only Lesotho in Southern Africa in the number of rapes it suffers. Politically correct academics in the U.S. are sounding the alarm bells about a “rape culture” on U.S. campuses. In fact, the groves of academe across the fruited plain are among the safest, most coddled environments in the world. If the “mattress girl” at Columbia wants to find a hostile environment for women, she need look no further than Sweden. . .”

Paula Bolyard, PJM: “Is Common Core the Obamacare of Education?

“States agreed to abide by the common standards before the public had time to comprehend the dramatic transformation that had just occurred.

“‘This has become a top-down approach, just like Obamacare. We were told you can keep your doctor, you can keep your health plan. We were told this would be locally-driven, local curriculum. That’s not what it is. This is a one-size-fits-all approach from D.C.. We have never allowed the federal government to make curriculum decisions in our local schools and we will continue to fight against this.’

“That was Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal explaining to Chris Wallace, host of Fox News Sunday, the reason he changed his mind about supporting the Common Core State Standards. Jindal initially agreed that his state would submit to the standards, a list of what children should know in each grade from kindergarten to graduation in English language arts and mathematics, but later changed his mind, citing concerns about increased federal control over state and local education decisions.

“Like many other governors across the country, Jindal was lured into agreeing to the standards with the promise of federal dollars from grants through a program called Race to the Top, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Cash-strapped states were encouraged to compete for grants by submitting applications that would be judged, in part, on whether or not they agreed to adopt the Common Core standards. States were told that their applications would be more competitive if they agreed to adopt the new standards.

“Forty states applied for the first phase of funding, many of them enthusiastically agreeing to adopt the common standards that would eventually come to be called the Common Core State Standards.

“States that didn’t get on board with Common Core during the Race to the Top competition found that the federal government had another incentive — or perhaps threat is a better word. The No Child Left Behind Act had an absurd 100% proficiency requirement that was looming in 2014. No state was on schedule to achieve 100% proficiency and states faced federally mandated sanctions in 2014 if that unrealistic benchmark wasn’t met.  The Obama administration offered states waivers that would allow them to avoid the consequences of NCLB — as long as they agreed to jump on the Common Core bandwagon. . .”

Tony Lee, Big Govt: “Expert: Obama Intent on Circumventing Congress to Cave on Iran Deal”

“One of the country’s top experts on international relations believes President Barack Obama has plotted to strengthen Iran since he entered the White House and will do everything in his power to bypass Congress to cut a deal with Tehran.

“On Breitbart News Sunday, Michael Doran, a fellow at the Hudson Institute, elaborated on his thought-provoking essay in Mosaic magazine titled, “Obama’s Secret Iran Strategy.”

Doran told host and Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon that from the moment Obama came into power, he had his own idea about the Middle East’s geopolitics that differed from past White House occupants. He noted that presidents before Obama conceptualized the Middle East as a rectangular table with America’s allies on one side and opponents like the Russians, Iranians, and Syrians on the other. America’s role in the Middle East was to ‘strengthen our allies against those on the other side of the table.’

“Obama, though, came in with a ‘completely different concept’ of the Middle East. The president, according to Doran, saw the Middle East as a ‘roundtable’ with the Iranians, who have dubbed America the “Great Satan,” and the Russians working together with Americans. Doran said Obama sees himself as ‘the convener of the roundtable’ who ‘brings together everyone at the table’ to work on the worst pathologies in the Middle East.

“The ‘scary thing,’ according to Doran, is that Obama’s view of the Middle East is not all that uncommon among the foreign policy elite–like Zbigniew Brzezinski, Brent Scowcroft, and James Baker–who believe that “Iran shares certain vital interests with the U.S.” and can help America stabilize the Middle East and fight Sunni extremists. . .”

Drew Zahn, WND: “Female lawmaker unafraid to slam ‘Islamic savages’”

‘I’ve had enough of terrorists who oppress women and burn people alive’

“A California assemblywoman is refusing to back down after fellow lawmakers and the Council for American Islamic Relations, or CAIR, have demanded she apologize for what they’re calling a ‘hateful’ message she posted on Twitter.

“On Feb. 10, after confirmation that American humanitarian aid worker Kayla Mueller was killed by the Islamic State, Republican Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez of Lake Elsinore sent out a tweet calling the murder ‘gut wrenching’:

“Her use of the hashtag “#standupagainstIslam,” however, has some people up in arms.

Basim Elkarra, executive director of CAIR in Sacramento, characterized the hashtag as ‘hateful’ and called on Melendez to apologize.

“‘It’s one thing to stand against terrorists,’ he told the Sacramento Bee, ‘but to stand against Islam, the faith of 1.6 billion people worldwide, is another.’”

Fox: “Egyptian planes pound ISIS in Libya in revenge for mass beheadings of Christians”

Consequences need to be personal, immediate, and consistent . . . incidentally, thank you Hillary, Samantha, & Susan . . .

“Egyptian warplanes struck hard at ISIS militants in neighboring Libya, killing as many as 64 militants and destroying the Islamist terror group’s training camps and weapons caches a day after a sickening video surfaced showing black-clad jihadists beheading 21 Coptic Christians.

“The strikes came after Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi went on national television in the world’s most populous Arab nation and vowed revenge was coming. The address was followed by the airing of military video showing the planes taking off for the mission and an Armed Forces General Command statement saying the strikes were ‘to avenge the bloodshed and to seek retribution from the killers.’

“‘Let those far and near know that Egyptians have a shield that protects them,’ it said. . .”

Dean Schabner & James Meek, ABC: “ISIS Video Purports to Show Execution of Christian Men in Libya”

“A video released today by a group claiming allegiance to ISIS purports to show the beheading of a group of Coptic Christian men who were kidnapped in Libya last month.

“The horrific 5-minute video is evidence of ISIS’ continued expansion from the terrorist group’s ‘caliphate’ from Syria and Iraq into neighboring regions.

“The group, Tripoli Province, claimed it had kidnapped the men and published three pictures of them on January 12.

“In the video, a group of men in orange jumpsuits are led along a beach, each accompanied by a masked militant. As the men in the jumpsuits kneel, one of the militants speaks to the camera in English, and then all of the kneeling men are beheaded.

“After the release of the video, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi banned all travel by Egyptian citizens to Libya, promised to evacuate all Egyptians who are currently in the country.

“He also said he would send his foreign minister to New York, calling for an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting about how to respond to ISIS actions in Libya. . .”

Yahoo!: “Netanyahu urges Jews to move to Israel after Copenhagen attacks”

“Jerusalem (AFP) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday urged European Jews to move to Israel after a Jewish man was killed in an attack outside Copenhagen’s main synagogue.

“Israel is your home. We are preparing and calling for the absorption of mass immigration from Europe,” Netanyahu said in a statement, repeating a similar call after attacks by jihadists in Paris last month when four Jews were among the dead.

“Two police officers were also wounded in Sunday’s attack in Copenhagen, one of two fatal shootings in the normally peaceful Danish capital on the weekend.

“In the first attack on Saturday, a 55-year-old man was killed at a panel discussion about Islam and free speech attended by a Swedish cartoonist behind controversial caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

“‘Extremist Islamic terrorism has struck Europe again… Jews have been murdered again on European soil only because they were Jews,’ Netanyahu said in the statement.

“The Israeli prime minister said his government was to adopt a $45 million (39.5 million euro) plan ‘to encourage the absorption of immigrants from France, Belgium and Ukraine’.

“‘To the Jews of Europe and to the Jews of the world I say that Israel is waiting for you with open arms,’ Netanyahu said. . .”

PA . . .

Andrew Staub, PA Independent: “PA business community waits to learn more about Wolf’s income tax plan”

Gov. Tom Wolf has already proposed a severance tax on the natural gas industry, but so far his administration has been silent on another tax policy he talked up during the campaign: changing the state’s personal income tax so the rich pay more.

“It would undoubtedly be a heavy lift for Wolf, one that would be difficult to muscle through a General Assembly with healthy Republican majorities. It might even require an amendment to the state constitution, a process that could eat up much of Wolf’s first four-year term.

“That hasn’t stopped leaders in the business community from wondering if Wolf will address the campaign pledge during his first budget address, which is scheduled for March 3 and will have to outline how he plans to dig out from a projected deficit that could top $2 billion.

“The question becomes, ‘What are his plans to address that short of raising taxes?’ said Kevin Shivers, executive state director for the National Federation of Independent Business in Pennsylvania. ‘We haven’t heard enough yet from the administration. Obviously, we’re all going to be watching with baited breath for March 3.’ . . .”

Sy Snyder, Politics PA: “2/13 Ups & Downs”

Philadelphia. In case you haven’t heard, the City of Brotherly Love won the right to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Besides the financial benefits and the chance to showcase the city, the convention could provide a lift to all the other Democratic candidates in the Keystone State. A special up arrow also goes out to all those that fought to win this event, most prominently former Gov. Ed Rendell, Mayor Michael Nutter and Congressman Bob Brady. Finally, additional up arrows for all those staffers who didn’t get the headlines but worked just as hard: Aubrey Montgomery, Kevin Washo, Jordan Schwartz, Lila Rose and Dana Fritz.

“PA Republicans. You won’t get any of them to say it, but the GOP can’t be happy about all that extra attention and money a National Convention is likely to bring to the Democrats. Pennsylvania has voted for the Democratic presidential candidate in six straight elections so Republicans have a bit of an inherent disadvantage in 2016. If the convention convinces Republicans to spend even just a little less time and money in PA, it could hurt down ballot candidates.

“Pat Toomey. Senator Toomey was very magnanimous in his advocacy for a Philly convention. Unfortunately, that kind gesture could prove to be a huge mistake. Since Toomey is up for re-election in 2016, any promotion that his Senate opponent could get from the DNC could prove harmful. The Senator has consciously tried to appeal to the electorate as a moderate Republican acceptable to a Democratic-leaning state. Yet he, and we, won’t know until election night 2016 whether or not he succeeded.

“Tom Wolf. Of course, the Governor is among those who will benefit from the convention, especially if he’s given a prime opportunity to speak to a statewide (and nationwide) audience. The convention, though, wasn’t the only news this week. Gov. Wolf also released his highly anticipated severance tax plan. Additionally, he began the process of adopting the Medicaid expansion and informing the state how this transition would work. It’s quite possible these plans end up a mess, but for now the new Governor gets to enjoy that sweet yet fleeting moment between the start of something and the actual accomplishment of that task.

“Anne Covey. This week likely did not unfold as the Commonwealth Court Judge and  State Supreme Court candidate intended. On Monday, the Pennsylvania Bar Association refused to recommend Covey, leading the Judge to denounce the PBA. The next day, one of her opponents, Supreme Court Justice Correale Stevens sent a letter to PoliticsPA criticizing Covey’s behavior and characterizing her objections as “temper tantrums”. Altogether, not the best way to jumpstart a campaign.”

Jonah Goldberg, NRO: “All Hail Science! “Memo to progressives: Unlike God, science doesn’t care if you believe in it.

“‘The point is that the Left considers itself the undisputed champion of “science,” but there are scads of issues where they take un-scientific points of view.

‘Sure they can cite dissident scientists — just as conservatives can — on this or that issue. But everyone knows that when the science directly threatens the Left’s pieties, it’s the science that must bend — or break. During the Larry Summers fiasco at Harvard, comments delivered in the classic spirit of open inquiry and debate cost Summers his job. Actual scientists got the vapors because he violated the principles not of science but of liberalism. During the Gulf oil spill, the Obama administration dishonestly claimed that its independent experts supported a drilling moratorium. They emphatically did not. The president who campaigned on basing his policies on “sound science” ignored his own hand-picked experts. According to the GAO, he did something very similar when he shut down Yucca Mountain. His support for wind and solar energy, as you suggest, isn’t based on science but on faith. And that faith has failed him dramatically.

‘The idea that conservatives are anti-science is self-evident and self-pleasing liberal hogwash. I see no reason why conservatives should even argue the issue on their terms when it’s so clearly offered in bad faith in the first place.’

Recently, others have made this point better than I have, but as the Marines say of their rifles, this ‘news’letter is mine.

Steve Piotrowski, Wolf’s Background Checks

“I would like to pass on to you a very important petition that we are circulating. After you sign this, please make sure to forward this to others who also care about upholding our liberties. Because the more people that we can get mobilized on our side, the better chance we have at winning and taking back our Commonwealth.

“As you may already know, Governor Tom Wolf said that he wants to enact unconstitutional universal background checks on firearms, he wants to ban semi-automatic rifles, and Wolf also wants to grant local municipalities the ability to enact their own illegal gun control ordinances that would violate State law. Tom Wolf will be an “Oath Breaker”, and the People of this Commonwealth will not stand for it!

“We hope that you will join the fight and sign our petition to hold Tom Wolf Accountable TODAY!

“Now, before you sign this, I want to be very clear with you on our intent. Right now we are preparing and we are mobilizing our base because we plan on taking ACTION in early March. The gloves are coming off, and we plan on holding these Commie politicians accountable.

“If you are tired of others just talking and not doing anything, we encourage you to join us as we prepare for our political battles ahead.
