“The president has repeatedly declared his eagerness to welcome Iran into the community of civilized nations. His words sometimes suggest that Iran has a choice to make, that their acceptance into this mythical community depends in some way on their behavior. But there’s little over those six years to indicate that he means it. Instead, Obama has made clear that in his eagerness to salvage anything from his tattered foreign policy legacy he is willing to gamble the security of the United States on a blind and irrational hope that Iran will someday change for the better.” Stephen Hayes

Janet Hook, WSJ: “Ted Cruz Announces 2016 GOP Presidential Bid”

On the anniversary of BOCare . . . Screaming “No!,” I spent that day on the Capitol lawn.

“. . .Mr. Cruz stands for a brand of ideological conservatism that contrasts with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who has said a successful presidential candidate must be willing to “lose the primary”—that is, risk angering the party’s most conservative followers—to succeed with the more centrist electorate in the general election.

“By contrast, Mr. Cruz has sometimes angered congressional leaders by pushing for conservative goals, such as ending the Democratic-backed Affordable Care Act and President Barack Obama’s immigration policy, at the cost of provoking gridlock in Washington. He was widely blamed for helping to prompt the 2013 government shutdown, an effort to unwind the 2010 health law that many Republicans say wound up damaging the party’s image.

“Mr. Cruz is scheduled to speak Monday at Liberty University, a Christian college in Lynchburg, Va., founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell.

“Mr. Cruz’s early presence in the field could pressure other potential candidates to move to the political right on fiscal policy, social issues and on the tactics for pursuing policy goals, particularly among contenders who are trying to establish themselves as the leading conservative alternative to Mr. Bush. . .”

Matthew Boyle, Big Govt: “Ted Cruz Expected To Launch Presidential Campaign on Monday”

“Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is set to deliver a major speech at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Monday morning—and speculation is mounting that Cruz may indeed launch a presidential bid right then and there.

“Roll Call’s Niels Lesnewski reported on Saturday that the speech is being “billed as ‘an important speech.”

“Aides to the Texas Republican, who has been contemplating a run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, were tight-lipped Friday about the details of the visit to the campus of Liberty University, but the timing of the speech would be right for getting somewhat ahead of the curve on announcing a White House run, at least among senators,” he wrote for the Roll Call story.

“Then on Saturday, the Houston Chronicle—citing anonymous sources inside the Cruz team—wrote that Cruz will announce a formal presidential campaign, forgoing the exploratory committee stage to become the first declared candidate for the Republican nomination in 2016.

Hello All,

“I have a flyer that is updated and entitled: “What Can You Do to Stop Common Core in PA?”  Please feel free to photocopy it and share it with others.  The contact information is updated and checked.

“Also…the West Chester School District has a Legislative Action Committee to work against unfunded mandates in PA.  They have a great deal of extremely useful information on their web site which is:

Kevin Williamson, NRO: “The Real Price of Lies”

“‘Can I trust what the president says? That’s a yes-or-no question.’ So inquired U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen in response to having been lied to by the Obama administration. The administration wants to use a presidential decree to enact an amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants; half of the states have rallied behind Texas in arguing that this is unconstitutional, that the president is arrogating to himself a legislative power that is properly Congress’s. Lawyers for the Justice Department, led by Kathleen Hartnett, assured the court that no action on DAPA — Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents — would be taken until Judge Hanen had made a ruling on whether to issue an injunction against it.

“‘Like an idiot, I believed that,’ the judge says.

“The Obama administration, being what it is, ignored its promise to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and began handing out reprieves as fast as it could, issuing more than 100,000 of them. When the annoyed judge demanded to know why the Department of Justice had lied to a federal court, Hartnett argued that the reprieves were being handed out under a different set of guidelines. The judge was not buying it. Among other things, the administration is offering three-year grants of immunity, which are not authorized by the earlier authority under which it purports to be operating.

“It is easy to understand why the administration is in a hurry to sign up as many people for its illegal amnesty as it can: The more beneficiaries there are, the more difficult it becomes to revoke the amnesty, even when it is confirmed as being illegal and unconstitutional. Judge Hanen already has sided with the states on a substantial issue, handing down that injunction he had been considering. “That Barack Obama and those he holds near have a funny way with the truth is not news. . .”

Philip Rucker, WaPo: “Republicans rally to Scott Walker’s call, believing he’s a scrappy survivor”

“COLUMBIA, S.C. — When Jim Ulmer came to see Scott Walker here last week, he was transfixed. “He’s the little engine that could,” Ulmer said, describing the Wisconsin governor who successfully battled labor unions and has rocketed to the front of the Republican presidential race.

“‘He has guts,’ said Ulmer, 52, Republican Party chairman in rural Orangeburg County. ‘The people of America are looking for another Ronald Reagan, someone we can believe in, someone who will keep freedom safe. Walker could be it.’

“As hundreds of likely GOP primary voters took their first look at Walker here last week, many said he has the qualities they hope to see in the GOP’s next standard-bearer. They acknowledged they know very little about Walker yet said they are ready to vote him into the White House.

“As they see it, he’s a fighter, tenacious and decisive. He fought the unions again and again, and he won each time. They see the 47-year-old governor as a truth-teller, a pure conservative and an energetic, fresh face — as the future. . .’

Nicole Hensley & Reuven Blau, NY Daily News: “Starbucks ends ‘Race Together’ coffee cup campaign, continues push for forums and new stores “

“The java giant is pulling the plug on its controversial ‘Race Together’ campaign, according to a company memo from CEO Howard Schultz.

“Baristas were no longer to write “Race Together” on customers’ cups starting Sunday, concluding the most visible part of the company’s diversity and racial equality campaign.

“The unorthodox marketing move was supposed to turn the coffee corporation’s stores into impromptu forums for racial dialogues, but even Starbucks staffers seemed confused by it. . .”

Mike DeBonis, WaPo: “Loretta Lynch stays in limbo as Senate prepares to take up other matters”

“The Senate had two things to do this week — pass a bill cracking down on sex slavery, and vote on the nomination of Loretta Lynch to be attorney general — and it did neither of them.

“So barring an eleventh-hour weekend compromise, Lynch, who would become the first black woman to serve as attorney general, will wait until at least mid-April before a confirmation vote is held, extending an unusually long wait that Democrats have tried to turn to their political advantage by portraying the delay as tied to Lynch’s race and gender.

“At a Wednesday event at the Capitol, female senators and activists framed the holdup as part of a Republican “war on women,” while nearby on the Senate floor, the second-ranking Democrat said Lynch is being “asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar” — an unmistakable reference to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

“But Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) showed no sign of caving to Democrats’ demands, announcing his intention Thursday to move on to the federal budget on Monday, thus pushing back the Lynch nomination until after a two-week recess set to begin Thursday. . .”

Sally Pipes, NY Daily News: “Unhappy birthday, Obamacare: Five years after its signing, the Affordable Care Act is failing to live up to its promise”

“‘In the Obama administration,’ candidate Obama boasted in 2008, ‘we’ll lower premiums by up to $2,500 for a typical family in a year.’

“Not quite. A recent report from the National Bureau of Economic Research examined the non-group marketplace, where families and individuals who don’t get coverage through work shop for insurance. The report concluded that 2014 premiums were 24.4% higher than they would have been without Obamacare.

“On Obamacare’s third birthday, the White House reassured Americans the law would protect vulnerable patient populations from increases in drug prices.

“‘Preventing them from being charged more because of a pre-existing condition or getting fewer benefits like mental health services or prescription drugs,’ was a key purpose of the law, explained the White House.

“Instead, drug costs for these patients have skyrocketed. The majority of health plans on the exchanges have shifted costs for expensive medications onto patients.

“In 2015, more than 40% of all “silver” exchange plans — the most commonly purchased — are charging patients 30% or more of the total cost of their specialty drugs. Only 27% of silver plans did so last year.

“Part of the problem is that Obamacare has quashed competition.

“The president promised in 2013 that ‘this law means more choice, more competition, lower costs for millions of Americans.’ But that hasn’t turned out to be true. According to the Heritage Foundation, the number of insurers selling to individual consumers in the exchanges this year is 21.5% less than the number on the market in 2013 — the year before the law took effect.

“The Government Accountability Office reports that insurers have left the market in droves. In 2013, 1,232 carriers offered insurance coverage in the individual market. By 2015, that number had shrunk to 310. . .”

Dan Riehl, Big Govt: “Conservatives Denounce Boehner’s ‘Cannibalism’”

Obama and Jarrett work on their next jobs, what about Boehner?

“Calling it ‘cannibalism’ and a ‘stupid’ tactic that will ultimately backfire, conservatives are fuming and firing back over “an outside group aligned with Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio)” that spent $300,000 to attack conservative Republicans, including three leaders, as detailed in this report in The Hill:

“American Action Network, a nonprofit whose board includes former Boehner chief of staff Barry Jackson, launched the $300,000 ad campaign earlier this month with TV spots depicting terrorists and accusing GOP Reps. Jim Jordan (Ohio), Tim Huelskamp (Kansas) and Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.) of putting “our security at risk.”

“Tea Party Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) equated the attack ads to GOP ‘cannibalism,’ while his conservative colleague Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) called them a “stupid” tactic that would backfire.

“Along with the TV spots, the group also ran ads across talk radio, ‘including shows hosted by Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, and on digital ads in the district of nine other House Republicans.’ . . .”

Warner Huston, Big Journalism: “‘Boston Globe’ Runs FOUR Sunday Op-Eds Demanding Warren Run against Hillary”

“The left seems desperate to have someone, anyone, challenge Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary. The Boston Globe published no fewer than four op-eds in the same Sunday edition clamoring for Sen. Elizabeth Warren to challenge Hillary for the 2016 nomination.

“The paper’s editorial board floated a piece, entitled ‘Democrats need Elizabeth Warren’s voice in 2016 presidential race,’ that began by straight out saying that allowing Hillary to run for the Democratic nomination unopposed would be a mistake.

The paper says that there are ‘serious divides’ in the Democratic (jb) Party that should be settled by the voters and a lone Hillary run does a disservice to party members.

A major difference, the paper notes, is the issue of income inequality, one of Warren’s favorite issues. The Globe insists that, ‘the big-picture debate on financial regulation and income inequality is what s most at peril if the Democratic primaries come and go without top-notch opponents for Clinton.’. . .”

Breitbart: “Salon: ‘Massive Clinton Fundraising Operation’ Inside State Dept. Raked in Cash for Hillary”

Editor’s Note: This excerpt, from a book by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, first appeared on the left-wing site Salon. We reprint in part here.

“Hillary tapped Kris Balderston, the hit list author, to keep the Clinton political network humming at State. A longtime lieutenant to both Clintons, Balderston, who called everyone “buddy,” liked to talk in salesman’s terms about Hillary’s ‘power to convene” and her commitment to making sure her partners could “do well by doing good.” What he meant was that Hillary could use the Clinton Rolodex to focus private-sector money, government power, and the expertise at colleges and nonprofits to solve global problems. At best, they would do a public service and make a buck. At worst, they would make a powerful friend. Balderston became, for lack of a better term, Hillary’s special ops guy at State. . .”

James V. Grimaldi and Rebecca Ballhaus, WSJ: “Clinton Charity Tapped Foreign Friends”

“Foundation agreed not to seek donations from other governments, but cash kept flowing from individuals with connections to them

“The Clinton Foundation swore off donations from foreign governments when Hillary Clinton was secretary of state. That didn’t stop the foundation from raising millions of dollars from foreigners with connections to their home governments, a review of foundation disclosures shows.

“Some donors have direct ties to foreign governments. One is a member of the Saudi royal family. Another is a Ukrainian oligarch and former parliamentarian. Others are individuals with close connections to foreign governments that stem from their business activities. Their professed policy interests range from human rights to U.S.-Cuba relations.

“All told, more than a dozen foreign individuals and their foundations and companies were large donors to the Clinton Foundation in the years after Mrs. Clinton became secretary of state in 2009, collectively giving between $34 million and $68 million, foundation records show. Some donors also provided funding directly to charitable projects sponsored by the foundation, valued by the organization at $60 million.

“After Mrs. Clinton left the State Department in 2013, the foundation resumed accepting donations from foreign governments. Just after she stepped down as secretary of state, it received a large donation from a conglomerate run by a member of China’s National People’s Congress.. .”

ISR/IRAN . . .

NETANYAHU: “I think anyone who is going to build a Palestinian state today will be freeing up space to give an attack area to radical Islam against Israel. This is the reality created here in recent years. Anyone who ignores this sticks his head in the sand. The left does this, burying its head in the sand again and again. We are realistic and understand…”

Elliott Abrams, NRO: “Obama Tries to Invent Whatever Excuse He Can to Break with Israel”

“The man who leapt to congratulate election winners such as Vladimir Putin has had a markedly different attitude toward Israel’s newly elected leader, Benjamin Netanyahu. After delaying a congratulatory phone call this past week, Obama then used the call to lecture Netanyahu and threaten a change in U.S.-Israel relations.

“First, the lecture. The New York Times reported yesterday that Obama gave

‘a strongly worded lecture [to] Mr. Netanyahu about an Election Day Facebook posting in which the Israeli leader warned that Arab voters were going to the polls “in droves,” an assertion widely interpreted as an attempt to suppress the Arab vote. ‘We indicated that that kind of rhetoric was contrary to what is the best of Israel’s traditions — that although Israel was founded based on the historic Jewish homeland and the need to have a Jewish homeland, Israeli democracy has been premised on everybody in the country being treated equally and fairly,’ Mr. Obama said. ‘If that is lost, then I think that not only does it give ammunition to folks who don’t believe in a Jewish state, but it also, I think, starts to erode the meaning of democracy in the country.’

“It is quite obvious that Netanyahu made no effort whatsoever to ‘suppress the Arab vote,’ nor could he, and if the New York Times and Obama believe that, it is simply more proof that they are awash in ignorance and prejudice about Israel. Netanyahu’s remark was meant to get his own voters to the polls, which was clear in the words he used: He warned about leftist parties and NGOs getting their turnout up and was telling his voters they had better match it. Obama’s lecturing Israel, the region’s only real democracy, two days after a totally free election, is quite amazing — considering that in June 2009, for example, he stayed dead silent while the ayatollahs crushed the Green Movement and its demands for democracy in Iran. Many people consider Netanyahu’s remark unwise or offensive for various reasons, but the Obama interpretation is illogical and indefensible.

“The lecture continued, the Times tells us, . .”

Stephen Hayes, Weekly Std: “Obama’s Iran Agenda”

“. . . The Obama administration’s goal in nuclear talks is no longer preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons at all costs, but managing the process by which Iran becomes a nuclear state. The Obama administration no longer seeks to thwart Iran’s expansionist aims in the region and in many respects is now facilitating its aggression. On terrorism, the Obama administration has cast aside inconvenient realities about Iran’s support for jihadists of all kinds and has chosen instead to pretend that to the extent there any longer exists a war on terror, Washington and Tehran are on the same side.

“At one point, the Obama administration signaled that its eagerness for a nuclear deal with Iran would be tempered by its insistence on a few simple demands. Iran would have to dismantle all but a few hundred early-generation centrifuges and stop work on advanced centrifuge design; the heavy-water reactor at Arak would be shut down, and the fortified underground nuclear facility at Fordow would be shuttered; Iran’s ballistic missile program would be frozen or perhaps even rolled back; and sanctions would only be lifted after intrusive inspections verified Iranian compliance with any agreements. If news accounts about details of an imminent deal are accurate, including an Associated Press report last week reportedly based on a draft agreement, the administration is poised to capitulate on all of these issues. . .”

Juliet Eilperin, WaPo: “Obama: Netanyahu statements leave little room for serious peace talks”

“President Obama said that he takes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “at his word” that he cannot support a separate Palestinian state alongside Israel, dismissing the idea that Netanyahu has softened his stance since winning reelection Tuesday.

Just days before Israelis went to the polls, Netanyahu told voters he opposes a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has served as the cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East for two decades. On Thursday the prime minister walked back those comments, telling American broadcasters he would still be open to the creation of a Palestinian state but that “circumstances have to change” before that would be possible.

But in an interview with the Huffington Post released Saturday, Obama made it clear the United States was still reassessing its relationship with its longtime ally based on Netanyahu’s preelection vow.

Times of Israel: “Khamenei calls ‘Death to America’ as Kerry hails progress on nuke deal”

“Day after Obama urges Iran to seize ‘historic opportunity,’ supreme leader says US seeks to create insecurity

“Iran’s Supreme leader Ali Khamenei called for ‘Death to America’ on Saturday, a day after President Barack Obama appealed to Iran to seize a “historic opportunity” for a nuclear deal and a better future, and as US Secretary of State John Kerry claimed substantial progress toward an accord.

“Khamenei told a crowd in Tehran that Iran would not capitulate to Western demands. When the crowd started shouting, ‘Death to America,’ the ayatollah responded: ‘Of course yes, death to America, because America is the original source of this pressure.

“‘They insist on putting pressure on our dear people’s economy,’ he said, referring to economic sanctions aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear program. ‘What is their goal? Their goal is to put the people against the system,’ he said. ‘The politics of America is to create insecurity,’ he added, referring both to US pressure on Iran and elsewhere in the region.

“Khamenei’s comments contrasted with those of Iranian President Hassan Rohani, who said ‘achieving a deal is possible’ by the March 31 target date for a preliminary accord. . .”

Inquisitr: “Greenpeace Founder: “Climate Change Is Actually Climate Hysteria”

“Greenpeace co-founder Dr. Patrick Moore continues to be a vocal skeptic of man-made climate change and has equated the movement with fomenting climate hysteria.

“Moore, who exited Greenpeace after 15 years when ‘it lost its humanitarian perspective,’ was formerly the head of an organization called Greenspirit Strategies, Moore is currently the chair and chief scientist of Ecosense Environmental in Vancouver, British Columbia, as well as the chair for Ecology, Energy, and Prosperity at the Frontier Center for Public Policy. He is also heading up an organization called Allow Golden Rice Now which seeks to cure vitamin A deficiency among kids in developing countries with GMO rice.

“Environmentalists originally sounded the alarm about global cooling, then global warming, and now use an all-purpose climate change appellation. The Obama White House, which is pushing for various regulatory and policy initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, has adopted “climate disruption” as the new descriptor.

“About a year ago, Moore, who earned a PhD in ecology, told Congress that no proof exists that carbon emissions from humans have caused even a ‘minor warming’ of the Earth’s atmosphere over the past 100 years or more.

“In an article for the Heartlander, published by the Heartland Institute, a free-market think tank, about his climate change skepticism, Moore insisted that computer modeling is unreliable and that carbon dioxide is critically necessary for human life. He also declared that the influential United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is barking up the wrong tree, as it were, because it only considers human causes of global warming. . .”
