CRUZ’n . . .

Manu Raju, Politico: “2016 brawl breaks out on Senate floor”

“Paul lashes Cruz, Rubio for ‘dangerous’ and ‘reckless’ positions on government spending.

“The 2016 Republican nomination contest spilled onto the Senate floor Thursday, turning a marathon budget debate into a battle over which candidate is prepared to lead the country at a time of war.

“Four GOP senators are trying to gain the upper hand on the commander-in-chief test — Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham — and their competition was on vivid display as the Senate took up a Rubio plan to pump tens of billions of dollars more into the Pentagon budget. Paul blasted the idea because the new spending wasn’t offset by other cuts. And caught in the middle was Cruz, who’s pitching himself as a fiscal conservative who can appeal to the hawkish and libertarian wings of the GOP but ultimately sided with Rubio and Graham. . .”

LEADS . . .

Mona Charen, NRO: “Death to America”

“Maybe I’m too sensitive, but when a foreign autocrat leads his people in chants of ‘Death to America,’ I take it personally. President Obama and Secretary Kerry apparently don’t. The chant, which became a staple of the Islamic Republic during the 1979 revolution, is not a relic of the past. Just last weekend, at a rally in Iran, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was interrupted by the chant as he was denouncing American ‘lies’ and ‘arrogance.’ He smiled and responded, “Of course yes, death to America, because America is the original source of this pressure.”

“Some in Iran have said that during negotiations over a nuclear deal, Iranians should downplay the ‘Death to America’ chant, common after Friday prayers and at political rallies. But the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) rejects this advice, insisting, according to the semi-official Fars news agency, that the United States “is still the great Satan and the number-one enemy of the [Islamic] revolution, and the Islamic Republic and the Iranian nation. . .”

Kurt Nimmo, InfoWars: “NSA and Facebook Work Together”

“Lawyer at the European Court of Justice advises users to close down their Facebook accounts

“Earlier this week the European Commission’s attorney Bernhard Schima told the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) the US-EU Safe Harbor framework does not work.

“The framework process supposedly protects personal data. In 2013, however, it was discovered the NSA and its British counterpart — the GCHQ, short for Government Communications Headquarters — had siphoned off data transfers by tapping directly into under sea cable networks.

“In fact, according to a lawyer representing the Austrian government before the CJEU, Safe Harbor is better suited for pirates than the protection of data of EU citizens. In other words, the system was designed to be hijacked by the NSA and GCHQ.

“‘You might consider closing your Facebook account if you have one,’ Schima told attorney-general Yves Bot at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

“Edward Snowden had earlier revealed that the NSA’s notorious PRISM program had provided access to a number of US tech companies and social media services, including Facebook.

“Facebook, Apple and Google have argued they had no idea the NSA was illegally vacuuming up customer data. Last year, however, Rajesh De, the NSA’s general counsel, said the companies knew about the practice. . .”

Jonathan Weisman, NYT: “Senate Approves Budget of G.O.P. Wishes in All-Night Session”

“WASHINGTON — Emerging from an all-night session that contained more exhaustion than drama, Senate Republicans squeaked through a budget blueprint Friday morning that would repeal the Affordable Care Act, fundamentally remake federal health care for the poor and elderly, and push the federal deficit toward zero over the next decade.

“The 52-46 vote came at 3:28 a.m., after the Senate considered hundreds of amendments and voted on dozens — many of them politically freighted, some of them contradictory, but none of them binding. No Democrats voted for the budget. Among Republicans, only Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, who is likely to seek the White House, and Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, who has announced his intention to do so, voted no.

“Senator Michael B. Enzi of Wyoming, chairman of the Budget Committee, hailed a plan that he said would ‘protect the nation’s most vulnerable citizens, strengthen national defense and bring robust economic growth.’

“Democrats said it would be a disaster — if it ever happened. . .”

Carl Hulse, NYT: “Harry Reid Says He Won’t Seek Re-Election”

“WASHINGTON — Senator Harry Reid, the tough tactician who has led Senate Democrats since 2005, will not seek re-election next year, bringing an end to a three-decade congressional career that culminated with his push of President Obama’s ambitious agenda against fierce Republican resistance.

“Mr. Reid, 75, who suffered serious eye and facial injuries in a Jan. 1 exercise accident at his Las Vegas home, said he had been contemplating retiring from the Senate for months. He said his decision was not attributable either to the accident or to his demotion to minority leader after Democrats lost the majority in November’s midterm elections.

“‘I understand this place,’ Mr. Reid said. ‘I have quite a bit of power as minority leader.’

“He has already confounded the new Republican majority this year by holding Democrats united against a proposal to gut the Obama administration’s immigration policies as well as a human-trafficking measure Democrats objected to over an anti-abortion provision. . . “

Bruce Schneier, Wired: “NSA Doesn’t Need to Spy on your Calls to Learn your secrets.”

“. . .Web search data is another source of intimate information that can be used for surveillance. (You can argue whether this is data or metadata. The NSA claims it’s metadata because your search terms are embedded in the URLs.) We don’t lie to our search engine. We’re more intimate with it than with our friends, lovers, or family members. We always tell it exactly what we’re thinking about, in as clear words as possible.

“Google knows what kind of porn each of us searches for, which old lovers we still think about, our shames, our concerns, and our secrets. If Google decided to, it could figure out which of us is worried about our mental health, thinking about tax evasion, or planning to protest a particular government policy. I used to say that Google knows more about what I’m thinking of than my wife does. But that doesn’t go far enough. Google knows more about what I’m thinking of than I do, because Google remembers all of it perfectly and forever. . .”

Replay: Kurt Nimmo, InfoWars: “Apple Wants You to Get Accustomed to Real-time Tracking

“Tracking tech compliments ongoing and evolving surveillance by the NSA

“Tech giant Apple is not coy about it. They want you to get used to real-time tracking. That’s why they are changing Find My Friends to Track My Friends.

“A patent granted to the company on Tuesday by the government describes a process that allows a user of a mobile device to view a visual representation of the movement of a person with another device.

“For example, someone is going for a hike or a trip and wants you to stay informed of his or her whereabouts,” CNet explains. “That person would enable a feature on a mobile device to allow you to see and track in real time the path being taken on your own mobile device or computer. On the flip side, you could also share your route so the two of you can stay abreast of each other’s ongoing location.”

“Also on the flipside, this information could be “shared” with the NSA and possibly local police. The mega-surveillance agency already has a number of tracking programs in place — such as “Boundless Informant,” a tool that tracks information across the internet — and police departments are using Stingray and Hailstorm technology to track cell phone calls.

“The NSA’s PRISM and associated programs ‘can find cellphones anywhere in the world, retrace their movements and expose hidden relationships among individuals using them,’ former NSA employee Edward Snowden revealed in 2013. The NSA collects, identifies, sorts and stores at least 11 different types of electronic communications and works tirelessly to tweak and improve its surveillance technology.

“Apple’s technology will ultimately enhance this ability. . .”

Replay: Kevin Williamson, NRO: “Utopia’s Jailers”

“From public schools to health care, the intent is to constrain people and prevent them from opting out. “Necessity drives invention. In the field of military innovation, all sorts of inventions — the Maginot line, the flame fougasse, trench warfare, the Vickers machine gun — were rooted in the same urgent necessity: keeping Germans out. War is evil and ugly, but Europe experienced a worse horror when that necessity was inverted, and the totalitarian movement that controlled half of the continent decided it needed a way to keep Germans in. And so utopia’s jailers built the Berlin Wall and any number of similar fortifications. “The ideologue may say that a wall is a wall is a wall, but in the case of a wall, intent matters: A society with barriers to keep out invaders is protected; a society with barriers to prevent exit is imprisoned. . .”

ISLAM . . .

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit: “GERMAN NEWS REPORT: Co-Pilot of Germanwings Airbus Was MUSLIM CONVERT …’Hero of Islamic State’?”

“A German news website claims Andreas Lubitz was a Muslim convert. reported:

“According to Michael Mannheimer, a writer for German PI-News, Germany now has its own 9/11, thanks to the convert to Islam, Andreas Lubitz.

“Translation from German:

‘All evidence indicates that the copilot of Airbus machine in his six-months break during his training as a pilot in Germanwings, converted to Islam and subsequently either by the order of “radical”, ie. devout Muslims , or received the order from the book of terror, the Quran, on his own accord decided to carry out this mass murder. As a radical mosque in Bremen is in the center of the investigation, in which the convert was staying often, it can be assumed that he – as Mohammed Atta, in the attack against New York – received his instructions directly from the immediate vicinity of the mosque.

“Converts are the most important weapon of Islam. . .”

ISR/IRAN . . .

Jay Solomon and Gerald F. Seib, WSJ: “Obama Struggles With a Messy Middle East”

“. . .juggling act. . .”? or an example of Cloward -Piven in the hands of an ambitious politician?

“Latest fighting in Yemen complicates relations with Iran as ties with allies are strained

“The Middle East has descended into a state of disarray unusual even for that troubled region, imperiling President Barack Obama’s policy dreams and leaving him with limited ability to control events.

“The latest complication has erupted in Yemen, where rebel forces backed by Iran have driven out the country’s president and are expanding their control southward across the country. The prospect that those Shiite rebels might succeed in taking over a neighboring country has so alarmed the Sunni leaders of Saudi Arabia that they have launched airstrikes and assembled an international coalition to intervene—a coalition that the U.S. has vowed to help.

“That means the Obama administration finds itself in a highly awkward position: It now is lined up against Iran in Yemen. Meanwhile, it is trying to negotiate a nuclear deal with Tehran and is working on the same side as the Iranians to defeat Islamic State fighters in Iraq.

“Moreover, at this moment of high regional anxiety, Mr. Obama finds his ties to Israel and Egypt, two traditional bulwarks of pro-American sentiment, under great strain. And his dream of smoothly exiting the long wars in Iraq and Afghanistan suffered a double blow this week as U.S. planes had to spring back into action in Iraq in an attempt to push back Islamic State forces, and Mr. Obama agreed to keep in Afghanistan thousands of troops he had hoped could leave by year’s end.

“The upshot is that Mr. Obama is engaged in a juggling act, trying to keep aloft a nuclear deal with Iran, the fight against Islamic State and an effort to prevent Yemen from sliding into hostile hands—all without the kind of military presence or solid phalanx of loyal allies the U.S. once had at its disposal . . .”

Adam Kredo, Free Beacon: “U.S. Caves to Key Iranian Demands as Nuke Deal Comes Together”

BO just sewed up his next job . . .

“Limited options for Congress as Obama seeks to bypass lawmakers

“LAUSSANE, Switzerland—The Obama administration is giving in to Iranian demands about the scope of its nuclear program as negotiators work to finalize a framework agreement in the coming days, according to sources familiar with the administration’s position in the negotiations.

U.S. negotiators are said to have given up ground on demands that Iran be forced to disclose the full range of its nuclear activities at the outset of a nuclear deal, a concession experts say would gut the verification the Obama administration has vowed would stand as the crux of a deal with Iran.

Until recently, the Obama administration had maintained that it would guarantee oversight on Tehran’s program well into the future, and that it would take the necessary steps to ensure that oversight would be effective. The issue has now emerged as a key sticking point in the talks.

Concern from sources familiar with U.S. concessions in the talks comes amid reports that Iran could be permitted to continue running nuclear centrifuges at an underground site once suspected of housing illicit activities. . . .”

Jennifer Rubin, WaPo: “On an Iran deal, reports of concessions galore”

“News reports over the past few days have featured a string of once unimaginable concessions from the P5+1 in the Iran nuclear talks. (One can imagine the French are feeding the media a steady diet of leaks. It is the French who have expressed the most concern about the bonanza of concessions, so leaks and ensuing public outrage is an understandable strategy if one is trying to stop a bad deal.)

“The Wall Street Journal reported: ‘Talks over Iran’s nuclear program have hit a stumbling block a week before a key deadline because Tehran has failed to cooperate with a United Nations probe into whether it tried to build atomic weapons in the past, say people close to the negotiations. In response, these people say, the U.S. and its diplomatic partners are revising their demands on Iran to address these concerns before they agree to finalize a nuclear deal, which would repeal U.N. sanctions against the country.’ Translation: Iran said no, so the administration is caving. This is no small matter. . .”

PA . . .

Salena Zito, TribLive: “Sestak’s use of rank violates military’s code of ethics”

“Joe Sestak retired from the Navy in 2005, but he still prefers the title “Admiral” in his campaign literature.

“And that could be a problem, experts say.

“Sestak’s website emphasizes his military career, pointing out that he served 31 years in the Navy. But in many sections, it refers to him as “Admiral Sestak,” as do his campaign news releases.

“Department of Defense ethics guidelines say retirees not on active duty can mention their military rank or service affiliation when campaigning for federal office but must clearly indicate their retired or reserve status. The rules were designed to prevent any implication of official endorsement or approval of military members’ participation in political activity. . .”

Mark Levin Show (3/26/15)

“On Thursday’s Mark Levin Show: President Obama has put of the people of Israel at risk by declassifying information about their nuclear program for the whole world to see. As a result of releasing this top-secret document and helping to arm up Iran, Obama is the greatest threat Jews face since the 1930’s. His administration has the worst record since the creation of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), hiding scandal after government scandal from the public, yet couldn’t wait to release vital information about Israel. Obama is handing the keys to the Middle East to Iran while trying to break up Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt; the countries that can stand up to the Islamo-nazi threat. The damage Obama is doing to the United States and the entire world is becoming irreversible.”
