3/30/15: RT @JamesOKeefeIII: We are holding a press conference 10am EST this morning in Miami. Brace yourselves, this one is beyond anything you’ve …
“. . .If there is to be a plague of goose poop befouling an American city, it really could not happen to a more fitting municipality than our hideous national capital, and especially to the gallery of architectural malpractice and monumental grotesquery that is the National Mall, that eternal testament to the unfinished work of Major General Robert Ross, who had the good taste to put Washington to the torch but who tragically failed to salt the earth on his way out. General Ross later helped to establish what would become a proud American tradition: getting shot to death in Baltimore. His body was pickled in rum before being returned to Nova Scotia, an excellent end to a life well-lived.
“If we could station a brace of geese outside Harry Reid’s place at the Ritz, then the former Senate majority leader could leave Washington with something to remember it by other than the campaign donations he sneakily diverted to his granddaughter. . .”

Todd Gillman, Dallas News: “Ted Cruz tries to widen appeal beyond evangelicals”
Without teleprompters . . .
“. . . “There are a lot of Republicans in Washington who are resigned to Obamacare remaining a permanent feature of our economy,” he told 200 Republican activists over brunch Saturday at the Portsmouth Country Club. “It’s my intention in 2016 to make this election a referendum on abolishing the IRS and repealing Obamacare.”
“Cruz’s initial focus on the evangelical vote made tactical sense. In a large, splintered Republican field, having a base to build from could be critical. But there’s a pitfall: By focusing so tightly on social conservatives, he could alienate others, ending up with a very enthusiastic sliver of the electorate.
“People I’ve talked to are excited about him. And yet there are some who are nervous, because of what he’s saying,” said Kathleen Lauer-Rago, chairwoman of the Merrimack County GOP.
“After hearing him Saturday, she didn’t foresee much problem for Cruz expanding his appeal.
“All the things he talks about aren’t concerns of just evangelicals,” she said. “He talks about ISIS [the Islamic State], about the budget. I don’t think he’s pigeonholed himself at all. . .”

Matthew Boyle, Breitbart: “Walker Toughens Immigration Position After Setbacks”
“After some setbacks over the past several weeks, top aides to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker tell Breitbart News that he’s toughening up his immigration position as he learns more about the issue.
“He’s for border security first, enforce the laws on the books, fix legal immigration system with national interest in mind and then deal with those here,” Walker spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski said in an email.
“Kukowski’s comments to Breitbart News come after a trip Walker took on Friday to the border with Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
“A lot depends on what the governor means by a: “legal immigration system with national interest in mind.” Still, this could be a step toward Walker remaking his image on immigration in the manner of Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest chairman Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL).
“The question becomes: What does Walker think is a legal immigration system that serves the national interest? . . .”
Paul Joseph Watson, InfoWars: “Video Shows Troops Training to Intern Citizens in Fort Lauderdale”
“Martial law-style drill caught on camera
“The clip shows armed troops arresting role players on the street before a column of prisoners are marched towards a mock internment facility. Black Hawk choppers are also seen whizzing between buildings.
“The exercise was accompanied by very little media coverage. A Sun-Sentinel report said that Broward County police would be “assisting members of the U.S. Special Operations Forces who are undergoing urban warfare training.”
“The drill, which was held in locations the military refused to disclose beforehand, began on March 17 and ended on Friday. 200 military personnel from all four branches, Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy, took part in the exercise.
“The goal is to prepare participants in realistic, unfamiliar training conditions before they deploy for combat overseas,” states the report. Residents were advised “not to be alarmed by the Black Hawk helicopters in the sky. . .”
Jonah Goldberg, NRO: “L’Affaire Bergdahl Is the Quintessential Obama Fiasco”
“. . .Given what we already knew, it’s no surprise that Bergdahl was up to no good. But given the politics, the fact that the Army is prosecuting him suggests that the evidence is pretty overwhelming. What I find interesting about the Bergdahl story is that it is the quintessential Obama fiasco. If you were compiling a checklist of all the things that drive conservatives crazy — and by conservatives I basically mean people who are (a) paying attention and (b) not enthralled in the Obama cult of personality — the Bergdahl story would achieve a near-perfect score.
“The Obama M.O. remains remarkably consistent. He announces some initiative, policy, or presidential action. The public rationale for the move is always rhetorically grounded in some deep, universally shared principle, even if the real agenda is something far more ideological or partisan. The facts driving the decision are never as the White House presents them. Indeed, the more confident the White House appears to be about the facts, the more likely it is they’re playing games with them.

Bob Unruh, WND: “Feds hide details of Navy SEALs shootdown”
“An attorney suing the CIA, Department of Defense and National Security Agency over the shootdown of the Extortion 17 helicopter mission hauling a quick-reaction force of Navy SEALs in Afghanistan in 2011 is asking a court to issue a contempt citation to the federal agencies.
“In a new motion, attorney Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch argues the defendants have missed an agreed-upon deadline for producing requested documents.
“The lawsuit itself, Klayman says, arose from the defendants’ failure to respond to a Freedom of Information Act request regarding the crash that killed 25 American special ops fighters, five Army National Guard and Reserve crew members, seven Afghan commandos and one interpreter.
Klayman and parents of some of the victims believe Afghan turncoats might have led the aircraft into a Taliban ambush, contending there are anomalies in the official explanation. The Pentagon blames the disaster on a lucky shot by a rocket-propelled grenade.
“Some of the victims were members of Navy SEAL Team 6. . . .”
Chris Mooney, WaPo: “One surprising downside of marijuana legalization: major energy use”
“. . . there’s a surprising catch. It turns out that indoor marijuana growth in particular — a cultivation method often favored in the industry for many reasons — uses a surprising amount of energy.
“Indeed, the level of power use appears to be so significant that one scholar is now suggesting that as the industry grows, states and localities should take advantage of marijuana licensing procedures to also regulate the industry’s energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
“Given that this is a new ‘industry’ that is going to be pretty highly regulated, I felt like the state and local policymakers have a unique opportunity to incorporate energy usage and climate assessments into their state marijuana licensing fees,” says Gina Warren, a professor at the Texas A&M University School of Law whose paper, titled “Regulating Pot to Save the Polar Bear: Energy and Climate Impacts of the Marijuana Industry,” will soon appear in the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law.
“The published statistics on energy use from indoor marijuana production will blow your mind (whether or not you use the stuff). . .”
ISLAM . . .
Ayaan Hirsi Ali, WaPo: The Islam reformers vs. the Muslim zealots”
“. . . Forget the crude distinction between “extreme” and “moderate” Muslims. Rather, we should distinguish among three groups of Muslims.
“The first group is the most problematic. Those in this category envision a regime based on sharia, or Islamic religious law. They aim not just to obey the prophet Muhammad’s teaching but also to emulate his warlike conduct after his move to Medina. Even if they do not themselves engage in violence, the people in this group do not hesitate to condone it.
“The second group — which composes the clear majority throughout the Muslim world — is loyal to the core creed of Islam and worship devoutly but is not inclined to practice or preach violence. Like devout Christians or Jews who attend religious services every week and abide by religious rules in what they eat and wear, these “Mecca Muslims” focus on religious observance. Sometimes some members of this group are mistakenly termed “moderate.”
“In the third group is the growing number of people who were born into Islam but who have sought to think critically about the faith in which we were raised. These are the Muslim dissidents. A few of us have been forced by experience to conclude that we could not continue as believers yet remain deeply engaged in the debate about Islam’s future. But the majority of dissidents are reformist believers who have come to realize that their religion must change if its followers are not to be condemned to an interminable cycle of violence. . .”
Pamela Geller, Big Govt: “Free Speech on Trial in U.S. District Court”
“Last Tuesday, my ace lawyer David Yerushalmi of the American Freedom Law Center (AFLC) argued before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on our motion for a preliminary injunction, asking the court to enter an order requiring New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to run our AFDI anti-Hamas, anti-jihad ad on MTA buses.
“I was there, and let me tell you, the foes of free speech made some telling and fascinating admissions.
“The foremost of these concerned the Hamas-tied Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Yerushalmi asked Jeff Rosen, the Director of Real Estate for the MTA — that is, the wonk who decides what ads to take and what ads not to take — this question: ‘The MTA does have a standard that prohibits libel, does it not?’ Rosen acknowledged that it did. Yerushalmi then asked Rosen about our ads comparing CAIR to Hamas and identifying CAIR leaders who have been convicted of jihad terror-related crimes.
Then came the bombshell. Yerushalmi asked: ‘Now, after this ad ran CAIR contacted the MTA and asked it to remove it on the basis that it violated the libel standard, correct?’
Rosen answered, ‘On the basis that it was defamatory, yes.’ Yerushalmi noted that the records that the MTA turned over to the court for this hearing indicated that the MTA declined CAIR’s request. Asked why, Rosen explained: ‘My understanding was that their stated objection was that — was not with respect to the naming of the individuals but with respect to the equating of CAIR and Hamas and we did not understand that — based on review with counsel, we did not understand that to be defamatory.’ . . .

Cloward-Piven . . .
“If you’re confused about the Saudi Arabia-led air attacks against Islamist rebels in Yemen and can’t tell one group of head-choppers in Iraq and Syria from another, don’t despair. All you need is imagination.

Reihan Salam, NRO: “Obama’s Coming Break with Israel”
“First, let me just say that I hope Jackson Diehl of the Washington Post is wrong and that President Obama has no intention of making a dramatic break with Israel in the coming months. But alas, the story he tells is very convincing. According to Diehl, the Obama administration is getting ready to back a U.N. Security Council resolution that would, in his words, “mandate the solution to the questions Israelis and Palestinians have been unable to agree upon for decades, such as the future status of Jerusalem.”
“Why does this matter? If Israel rejects peace terms imposed on it by outsiders, the effort to turn the Jewish homeland into a pariah state will gain enormous ground. This is a consequence that the president must fully understand. If Obama’s champions are to be believed, he is a subtle strategic thinker with a deep understanding of history. So no, his efforts to radically remake our relationship with Israel isn’t a reflection of ignorance or a lack of familiarity with the basics of the conflict. If the president chooses to pursue this dangerous course, let no American who values our alliance with Israel, or for that matter our national honor, ever forget it.
“Second, I had a recent conversation with one of America’s foremost strategic thinkers, and he made a compelling point about the dream of a two-state solution: far from putting an end to anti-Zionist hatred in the region, it would likely inflame it. . .” http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/416162/obamas-coming-break-israel-reihan-salam

Joel Pollak, National Security: “Iran Wants to Keep Enriched Uranium; U.S. Expected to Defend”
“Iranian negotiators in Lausanne, Switzerland have pulled what observers are calling a “bait-and-switch” by reneging on an earlier agreement to export their country’s existing stockpile of highly enriched uranium. The New York Times calls the shift a “surprise” move on a “critical element” of the nuclear deal, but adds that “the Obama administration is expected to argue that it would not constitute a serious risk” to the deal if the stockpile is inspected by international monitors.
“That observation confirms what an Iranian journalist who defected to the West during the talks has warned, namely: “The US negotiating team are mainly there to speak on Iran’s behalf with other members of the 5+1 countries and convince them of a deal.” The Obama administration is said to be so concerned to achieve a deal at almost any price that it will defend the Iranian regime’s last-minute brinkmanship, even though it concerns the most dangerous nuclear material Iran possesses. . .”
Shawn Mitchell, Townhall: “Obama Puts America’s Eggs in Iran’s Basket”
“. . . In playing his chess pieces, Obama unsuccessfully pressed Egypt to submit to the Muslim Brotherhood; stiff-armed the courageous President al-Sisi who wants to move Egypt closer to America, keep peace with Israel, and move Islam closer to modernity; launched unprovoked missiles against Libya’s Qaddafi, lighting that nation on fire, delivering it to chaos and Iran-backed rebels; played patsy with Iran’s client Assad while Assad scorned Obama’s red lines and gassed civilians; and manufactured an escalating series of confrontations and crises with Israel, most recently exposing top secret details of its previously unacknowledged nuclear program. After Yemen fell to Iran backed rebels, the White House continues to insist its approach there is a ‘model of effective counterterrorism.’
“Against all the other dots in this picture, it’s becoming apparent the trade of five Taliban field leaders for one US deserter was not a ‘bad deal’ but a head fake. Bergdahl was just cover for Obama to hand back five Jihadi leaders and move closer to his goal of closing Gitmo.
“Recent reports of the surreal ‘negotiations’ with Iran would make for farce if they weren’t terrifyingly real. Alone among the P5 + 1 world powers, the US is desperate to sweeten the pot to offer Iran whatever it takes. Obama originally set a redline of 500 high-speed centrifuges; we now shrug at 6,000. We’re good with Iran continuing operations at its reinforced, underground lab. It doesn’t have to reveal its ongoing research with military dimensions until after the world lifts sanctions…wink. Surprise inspections will be rare to never. Last week, the Associated Press astonishingly reported a final agreement may not even be in writing. Spokesman Josh Earnest failed to deny that unfathomable idea after three direct queries. . .”
Bridget Johnson, PJM: “Netanyahu Speaks with McConnell, Reid about ‘Dangerous for Humanity’ Iran Deal”
“Warning that the P5+1 agreement unfolding in Switzerland must be stopped, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he conferred with Senate leaders about the way forward.
“I have just come from a conversation with US Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. “‘Over the weekend I spoke with US Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid,’ Netanyahu said at the start of today’s cabinet meeting, according to his office. ‘I heard from both of them about strong and continuing bipartisan support for Israel and of course this is very important.’
“‘I expressed to them our deep concern over the agreement being formulated with Iran in the nuclear talks,’ he added. ‘This agreement, as it appears, confirms all of our concerns and even more so.’
“Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif wrote on his Facebook page that parties in the nuclear talks “have made progress in reaching acceptable solutions, but we still have to work on some important issues; the key to striking an agreement lies in this strategic choice that the other side should make: pressure and sanctions or interaction and agreement by the other side.”
“Over the past few weeks, everyone from Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator to most of Iran’s legislative body to Ayatollah Khamenei himself have insisted that they will not sign a deal unless all sanctions are lifted first. . .”
Jeff Jacoby, Boston Globe: “Obama’s hypocrisy with Netanyahu”
“It took Bibi Netanyahu nearly a week to apologize properly for his inflammatory comment on Israel’s election day warning that Arab voters were “heading to the polls in droves.” On Monday, speaking at his Jerusalem residence to a group of Israeli Arab community leaders, the newly reelected prime minister expressed his regret: “I know the things I said a few days ago wounded Israel’s Arab citizens. That was not in any way my intention, and I am sorry.”
But even after four and a half years, there has been no apology from Barack Obama for his inflammatory remarks just before the 2010 election, when he exhorted Latinos to generate an “upsurge in voting” in order to “punish our enemies and . . . reward our friends.” Nor has the president ever expressed regret for his running mate’s racially-tinged warning to a largely black audience in 2012 that the GOP was “going to put y’all back in chains” if Mitt Romney won the White House. In fact, the Obama campaign insisted no apology would be forthcoming.
Under normal circumstances, there would be no reason to link these episodes. But the White House pointedly reproached Netanyahu for his distasteful words. . .”
Oren Dorrell, USA Today: “Iran nuke talks in critical phase; deadline is Tuesday”
“The United States and Iran enter the critical last two days of negotiations over Iran’s disputed nuclear program as Secretary of State John Kerry and Iran Foreign Minister Javad Zarif continue meeting in Switzerland to bridge their differences.
“The talks are reaching a climax as leaders from across the world, including Israel and the U.S. Congress, watch to see if a historic deal emerges to curb Iran’s nuclear program in return for a lifting of U.S. and Western sanctions. Negotiators are trying to conclude a general agreement by Tuesday’s self-imposed deadline; details are to be filled in by June.
“Although the U.S. has taken the lead in the Iran talks, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China also are participating.
“White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Sunday that it is up to Iran to accept restrictions on its nuclear program. That way the Iranians would “live up to their rhetoric that they are not trying to acquire a nuclear weapon,” he said on ABC’s This Week. . .”

“. . . “Over the weekend, Ayatollah Khomeini gave a speech,” Acosta said. ”And during that speech, there were people in the crowd chanting ‘Death to America’ and the Ayatollah responded back to them according to various translations, ‘Of course, Death to America.’ Do those comments give this White House any pause about moving forward with a nuclear deal with that country?”
“Those kinds of comments only underscore why it is so critically important that the United States and the international community succeed in preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon,” Earnest responded. “And the best way for us to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapons is sitting down at the negotiating table and getting Iran to make very specific commitments that would prevent them from obtaining nuclear weapons. . .”
Jonah Goldberg, Townhall: “Can Jewish Americans Support Both Democrats and Israel?”
Probably not . . . and they will follow their collectivist biases behind Obama . . . Thx Ted!
“ ‘I don’t understand how Jews in America can be Democrats first and Jewish second and support Israel along the line of just following their president,’ vented Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on Boston Herald Radio last week.
“It was a small controversy in the grand scheme of things, easily overlooked during a week when: a German pilot turned a routine flight into a murder-suicide mission, Ted Cruz drove the media batty by announcing he will run for president as Ted Cruz, an Army sergeant and Taliban captive the White House touted as a hero was charged with desertion, and America joined forces with Iran in Iraq to kill Sunni jihadists while allying with Saudi Arabia in Yemen to kill Shiite jihadists (who are backed by Iran).
“Still, King’s comments did enrage a lot of people, particularly people eager to make political hay. “I was shocked and horrified when I heard the remarks made by Rep. King today stating that we are ‘Jewish second,’ and implying that Democrats are anti-Semitic,” responded Greg Rosenbaum, chair of the National Jewish Democratic Council.
“Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) took his hissy fit to Twitter. “I don’t need Congressman Steve King questioning my religion or my politics,” he tweeted. “I demand an apology from him & repudiation from GOP. #dangerous.”
“That ‘dangerous’ hashtag — no doubt a rich mix of sincerity and opportunism — is intriguing to me. What is the implied danger?

Sharona Schwartz, The Blaze: “Netanyahu Says Emerging Iran Deal Confirms Israel’s Worst Fears ‘and Even More So’”
“Netanyahu accused Iran of trying to control the entire Middle East and blasted what he termed a “Beirut-Damascus-Baghdad axis,” referring to Iran’s regional allies of Hezbollah, Syrian President Bashar Assad and Iraq’s Shiites.
“Even as meetings proceed on this dangerous agreement, Iran’s proxies in Yemen are overrunning large sections of that country and are attempting to seize control of the strategic Bab-el-Mandeb straits which change the naval balance and the global oil supply,” Netanyahu said. “Iran is carrying out a pincer maneuver in the south as well in order to take over and conquer the entire Middle East.”
“The prime minister situated the Swiss city of Lausanne, where negotiations are underway, as another stop in Iran’s efforts at regional domination, saying, “The Iran-Lausanne-Yemen axis is very dangerous for humanity and must be stopped.”
“Secretary of State John Kerry and his German and French counterparts canceled their travel plans in order to be available in Lausanne for negotiations, reflecting the intensity of the efforts to reach a framework agreement by the Tuesday’s deadline. . .”

Leo Knepper, CAP: “A Caution on Property Tax “Reform”
“A number of competing property tax reform and elimination bills have been introduced in recent history. The Governor has made property tax reduction a part of his budget, and we are likely to see a variety of proposals offering alternatives to the Governor’s proposal. Historically, property tax “reform” proposals have suffered from the same fatal flaw, and the Governor’s plan is no exception: they do not eliminate property taxes completely.
“For any property tax reform measures to have a lasting impact, school districts must be prohibited from using that as a revenue source. If not, school boards will eventually increase property tax rates back to their current onerous level. This would result in taxpayers paying high property taxes and the increased tax rates instituted to pay for the “relief”.
“An additional problem with Governor Wolf’s proposal is that it is not revenue neutral. Taxpayers do not see a dollar for dollar decrease in property tax rates. Instead, only 30 cents of every dollar is used for tax relief. The other 70 cents is used for increased spending.
“The final issue to consider is whether or not the proposal addresses the cost side of the problem. Every year pension costs are going to consume more of each school district’s budget. Today school districts must contribute almost 26 percent of each employee’s salary to the pension fund; in five years it goes up to 32 percent. If that problem is not addressed, taxes will go up to cover the difference. If costs like pensions, healthcare benefits, etc. are not addressed, whatever you replaced property taxes with will ultimately go up to cover the increase in expenses.
The questions to ask anyone pedaling property tax reform are:
Does it eliminate property taxes?
How does the proposal prevent schools from raising property taxes in the future?
Is it revenue neutral?
How are costs controlled to keep the new taxes from going up?
Unless these questions are answered to your satisfaction, the relief you are being promised is only going to be an illusion.”
Joanne: Opt-out information for PSSA’s and Keystones
“It is well known that the only reason available for parents to opt their children out of the PSSA’s and/or the Keystone exams is if they find that the test(s) are in conflict with their religious beliefs. In order to establish this, the parent has to follow a specified procedure that involves (1) contacting the school administrator; (2) viewing the test; (3) signing a confidentiality agreement; and finally, (4)notifying the district Superintendent that you are opting out your child because of religious beliefs. The opt-out procedure is detailed on the web site: http://optoutpa.blogspot.com/2014/08/how-to-opt-out-of-pssa-and-keystone.html.
The parent is NOT required to note any specific religion or specific objections. In fact, a reputable attorney associated with legislators in Harrisburg has said that it is ILLEGAL for districts to demand to know specific religious objections and for them to “validate” other people’s religions.
Unfortunately, there are many school districts who are misinforming parents as to proper procedures for opting out . . .

Wondering what other Tea Party and Patriot groups in PA are doing?
Want to learn more?
Come to the VFP meeting on Friday, April 10 at 6:30pm
PJ Ryan’s, Bridge St., Phoenixville.
Our speaker, Marion Douzou is a French citizen who is working toward a Ph.D. in “American Studies”. The subject of her dissertation is “Tea Parties in Pennsylvania”. She has been studying and interviewing tea parties and other citizen activist groups throughout the state. She has also worked with the Commonwealth Foundation in Harrisburg. Marion will be presenting an overview of her findings at the Valley Forge Patriots April meeting. This a great opportunity for us to hear about the health of the Tea Party movement in PA, what other groups are doing and learn how we may be able to work together and be more effective.
We are looking forward to hearing about other citizen activist groups in Pennsylvania.
The VFP is also concerned about Governor Wolf’s budget proposal that calls for significant tax increases, does nothing about the looming pension crisis, nor the archaic state store system.
We will be doing another post card blitz to our state legislators to fight against this budget. Please come out and help us with this effort.
