“Itinerary unclear for Democratic frontrunner, who has nicknamed her van ‘Scooby’, as she looks to put human touch on nascent presidential campaign”
Joanne: “for those who are dedicated to getting rid of Common Core in PA”
“As some of you know, Ryan Bannister, a concerned parent and outstanding volunteer lobbyist against Common Core, meets periodically with legislators in Harrisburg. This is what he reported from a recent meeting there (April 7, 2015) with Senator Smucker, the Chairman of the Senate Educational Committee…
” At the policy briefing with Sen Smucker on Tuesday he was asked twice about common core. The first came from Don Ely, he is a GOP committee person. He asked point blank “Where do you stand on common core?” After posing his question there was a few hand claps and vocalizations of support. Unfortunately Smucker wouldn’t answer directly, then denied that PA is using common core and assured everyone that education decisions are made with the input of outside groups like the business council.. He believes that we did away with it to implement our own standards. When I asked my question I informed him that not only are we deep in common core, but during his response to the first common core question he failed to mention any input from the parents. At that moment there was audible laughter at my question from Chris Nicholas, who is from the Business Council. He again danced around the topic of common core and stated that parents are important, etc..typical politician speak.
We need to make noise. Nobody is aware, or will admit what is happening. He needs to hear from the people. When I first met with him and his staff last year the first thing they told me is that they hear NOTHING from constituents.”
When I asked Ryan whom we could share his information with, he said…” You can share this with EVERYBODY. We need to focus on Smucker, Eichelberger, Cutler and Reed right now. We need to call them, email them and publicize the effort.”
So now it’s up to US. We need to make MORE noise. I know we’ve been doing so, but I guess we have to be louder! Please let these people know that Common Core is alive and doing its damage every day in PA. Send them your own examples. Tell them that there is virtually NO difference between Common Core State Standards and PA Core Standards. Common Core in PA is now called PA Core Standards, but make no mistake — they are virtually identical. They HAVE to be! By signing on to this initiative we cannot change the CCSS by more than 15%. The renaming was a marketing technique by the PDE to make people believe that we no longer have Common Core in PA. This is NOT TRUE and this deliberate deception is shameful! Just take a look at the books the children are using. Do school districts buy their books from the PA Core Curriculum Store? Of COURSE NOT! They get curriculum from Pearson, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt etc., the same as every other school in the United States who have adopted Common Core Standards because they are National Standards. If we had our own PA Core Standards then we would HAVE to have our own PA Core Curriculum, and we don’t. The Curriculum is NOT PA specific, it IS Common Core (National) Standards specific.
Ryan said that we should share his information with EVERYBODY! I have included contact information for those legislators whom Ryan mentioned, and also two people on the Business Council ( Christopher Nicholas and David Patti) below. Please contact them and let them know how you feel. I should note that business people are NOT educational experts and should NOT be dictating educational policy. The Business Council is a strong proponent of Common Core. Could the reason be that they’ve received a LOT of money from Mr. Gates?

THE HILLARY . . .
Maureen Callahan, NY Post: “A breakdown of every scandal swirling around Hillary”
“Expected to announce her presidential run Sunday, Hillary Clinton has been attempting to rebrand herself: She’s Hillary 2.0, campaigning out of Brooklyn, a more accessible, relatable candidate who learned the lessons of her bruising, failed 2008 bid: From now on, no equivocating, no entitlement, no dubious financial dealings.
“How much has changed? . . .”
Roger Simon, PJM: “No Questions, Please: Hillary Announces on Twitter”
“America rejoice! A multi-millionairess serial liar married to a multi-millionaire serial adulterer has just announced for the presidency of our country to save the middle class from impoverishment! (Or was it “income inequality”?) (Or was it “Chelsea Clinton in a Gucci dress, Mateo New York bracelet, Cartier bracelet, Garland Collection ring, Halleh ring,” as appears in this month’s Elle?)
“Better tell Rosa Luxemburg, Lenin and Trotsky, not to mention Gil Scott-Heron. His song got it wrong. The Revolution is going to be televised (until we’re blue in the face) and it will start in tony Chappaqua on a posh gated estate with pool and tennis court, guarded by the Secret Service with its own (exceptionally) private email system, infinite closed-circuit video surveillance and who knows what else?
“Is everyone throwing up yet? Not even Maureen Dowd is buying. Oh, well, American “liberalism” has been screwing the lower classes for the last fifty years. Why stop now?
“But maybe we are reaching a new low. It couldn’t be more obvious why Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy on Twitter and a disingenuous video. She’ll do anything not to take questions. . .”
Victor Davis Hanson, PJM: “Why Is Hillary Clinton Even Running?”
“. . . I. Who Else?
“One, there is no other credible Democrat who could run for presidency. The senior party leadership — Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore, John Kerry, and Dianne Feinstein — is shrill and buffoonish. They all have either tried before and failed, or are ossified has-beens — or both. There are no up-and-coming governors with distinguished records of executive success. There are no young charismatic Democratic senators — other than the well-preserved, 65-year-old Harvard populist Elizabeth Warren — out to make a name, who can speak well and mirror image a Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, or Mario Rubio. Congressional-district gerrymandering that encourages ethnic chauvinism and hard-left polarization has almost ensured that there will not be another minority star, like Barack Obama, who can win crossover votes and statewide office as a springboard to the White House.
“II. Her Turn
“Two, Hillary Clinton, like a Walter Mondale, Bob Dole or John McCain, believes that it is finally her turn. In her case she lost in 2008 and loyally served the man who defeated and often humiliated her (“you’re likable enough, Hillary” Obama condescendingly remarked during a debate of Democratic presidential candidates in January of 2008).
“She feels that she was robbed of a sure nomination by the upstart Obama, who cut in front of the line with his inane “hope and change” banalities and subtle race carding, as if racial chauvinism must always trump gender pandering. She blew a huge lead in the primaries, licked her wounds, and now it is time for the party to unite loyally behind her the way she did with Obama.
“III. First Woman
“Three, she thinks she can win largely on the issue of being the first woman president in the manner that Barack Obama milked his racially iconic status in lieu of a record. Her supporters believe that they can reignite the old wars: the Republican war on women, war on minorities, war on immigrants, war on the environment, war on the poor, war on everybody — and thereby galvanize the supposedly oppressed, as in 2008-2012, to register, turn out, and vote in lockstep in record numbers. Thereby they will more than make up for the millions of independents and white, blue-collar so-called Reagan Democrats that she will lose by such racial and gender histrionics.
“IV. Money, Money, Money…
“Four, Hillary Clinton assumes that she can buy her way to the White House and trump even the Obama shakedowns of the one-percent elite. No one grubs money better than the Clintons, who have turned a so-so presidential foundation into a money-laundering machine for their global jetting and politicking.
“Both Bill and Hillary have an uncanny insight into the very wealthy of Hollywood, Silicon Valley, Wall Street, the Upper West Side, and the Florida coast. They understand the formula: when many of the rich become very rich they no longer worry about high tax rates, either on the assurance that they have the capital and know-how to avoid them, or in the belief that that a 50% federal and state rate could hardly eat away much of their enormous pile. Huge federal redistributionist policies may fail and hurt the minorities and poor, but for now they are felt to be about the only insurance that the gates of the rich will not be stormed or their private schools and neighborhoods flooded. . .”
Michael Goodwin, NY Post: “Oh Hill no! Clinton’s stale presidential plan wrong for nation”
Neurology suggests that females are dominated by their talker left side. (Gazzaniga, 2015) And that left side is an “excuse maker,” “fable teller” and generalized liar. Tired of Obama’s fables? We ain’t seen nuttin’ yet! (Gazzaniga, Michael (2015) Tales from Both Sides of the Brain: A Life in Neuroscience. NY: Harper Collins)
“More than five years ago, a Clinton confidant matter-of-factly described for me Hillary’s Plan. She would resign as secretary of state after President Obama’s first term, write a book and then run for president again.
“Check, check, and, with Sunday’s official launch, check again. Her to-do list is complete.
“She stuck like glue to The Plan, which required years of misleading blabber from her and Bubba that she hadn’t decided about 2016. Fish gotta swim, and a Clinton’s gotta run, so there was never an iota of doubt.
“But time has marched on and the world has changed, making The Plan, and her, look stuck in the past. What the great Murray Kempton wrote in 1965 of John Lindsay’s first mayoral run — “He is fresh and everyone else is tired” — is not something anybody says of Hillary these days.
“She’s been on the national stage for a quarter-century, though because of all the drama, it feels like we’ve lived through several lifetimes with her. Along the way, she’s reinvented herself more often than Madonna. While the spectacle of an aging hoofer trying to keep up with the kids is riveting, the kicks aren’t what they used to be and the odor of desperation is unavoidable. . .”
Also: Daniel Halper, Weekly Std: “Brooklyn Hit With Anti-Hillary Street Art”
“A source sends along these photos from Brooklyn today of anti-Hillary Clinton signs everywhere. Clinton is expected to announce her presidential campaign later today. The campaign’s headquarters are located in Brooklyn.
“The signs appear to be a riff on a group of supporters calling certain words often used to describe Clinton as sexist. Words such as ‘secretive,’ ‘ambitious,’ and ‘entitled.’
“The signs are posted near Hillary’s campaign headquarters . . .”

Meredith Shiner, YAHOO!: “The Rubio record: From tea party hero to immigration reformer and beyond”
“. . . “I’d rather have 30 Marco Rubios in the Senate than 60 Arlen Specters,” DeMint declared at the 2010 Conservative Political Action Conference, launching what would become a tagline for the antiestablishment conservative uprising that year. Specter, a five-term moderate Republican from Pennsylvania, had switched his party affiliation in 2009 and joined with the majority Democrats.
“DeMint’s statement reflected what a rock star Rubio had become in conservative circles. Young, Hispanic and ambitious, Rubio had just forced former Gov. Charlie Crist, a moderate Republican, from Florida’s GOP Senate primary, seizing the party’s nomination. Crist went on to run against Rubio as an independent in the general election, losing by nearly 20 points — to the delight of a conservative base that saw other upset wins across the country, from Kentucky to Utah. . .”
WSJ: “The State Electricity Revolt”
“. . .The Environmental Protection Agency is finishing a rule—expected in June or July—that requires the states to meet carbon-reduction targets by reorganizing their “production, distribution and use of electricity,” as the EPA puts it. This is an unprecedented federal usurpation of what has been a state responsibility since the invention of the modern steam turbine in the 1880s.
“States are normally allowed as much as three years to comply with EPA mandates that are far less complex than this one. But the EPA will instruct them to submit implementation plans by summer 2016 and make interim progress as soon as 2020. The rule is intended to impress the greendees of the Paris climate conference this year, so Mr. Obama can announce a global climate deal.
“The plan hangs on an obscure section of the 44-year-old Clean Air Act. That law’s section 111(d) was well understood but the EPA has published a new interpretation of these several hundred words that runs 1,200 pages. No less a dean of legal liberalism than Harvard’s Larry Tribe is stunned by this attempt to nationalize U.S. electric generation.
“States will be told to meet the targets using four ‘building blocks.’ The first is uncontroversial: improving the efficiency of fossil-fuel power plants and installing pollution-control technology like smokestack scrubbers. But for the first time the EPA is also telling states to roam “outside the fence line” of power plants to force coal and eventually natural gas to shut down, mandate quotas for renewables like wind and solar, and impose energy conservation.
“The problem is that the federal government has no legal power outside the fence line. Last year the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals slapped down the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s bid to claim authority over ‘demand response’ on the electric grid.
“Thus the EPA is trying to coerce the states into doing what it can’t do itself . . .”

Betty: VALLEY FORGE PATRIOTS – REQUEST FOR HELP
The VFP are anxious to Rev things up and reactivate certain projects.
In order to do this, we will need some additional help. Janet Warnsdorfer is going to retire from membership mailings so we need someone to step forward to fill that position. It entails sending out meeting announcements, keeping the email list current, and welcoming members to meetings. Basically, it is a membership chairman position that can be tailored to suit capabilities.
We also want to reactivate our legislator visit program that was very successful. This requires a Legislator Relations Team. Responsibilities include: Maintaining a list of legislator contacts; federal, state, and local; Taking the lead in arranging visits to legislators; Helping train team members to make legislator contacts; and preparing petitions and written information to legislators. To make meetings meaningful, we also need an Issues Research Team. Responsibilities include: Researching issues; Preparing resource packages; Being knowledgeable on current issues; Coordinating with the Legislator Relations Team.
Please respond to Betty at firstname.lastname@example.org with your interest in working with the VFP. We will also be discussing these needs at our meeting on Friday, April 10.
Thank you, Betty Dunkel-Hernon for the Valley Forge Patriots
