“Such is the power of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. The committee comprises some of the most powerful members of the cabinet, including the attorney general, the secretaries of the Treasury, Defense, Homeland Security, Commerce and Energy, and the secretary of state. They are charged with reviewing any deal that could result in foreign control of an American business or asset deemed important to national security. . .”

THE HILLARY . . .Mike McIntire & Jo Becker, NYT: “Clinton Connection to Russia’s Uranium Claims”

“The headline in Pravda trumpeted President Vladimir V. Putin’s latest coup, its nationalistic fervor recalling an era when the newspaper served as the official mouthpiece of the Kremlin: “Russian Nuclear Energy Conquers the World.”

“The article, in January 2013, detailed how the Russian atomic energy agency, Rosatom, had taken over a Canadian company with uranium-mining stakes stretching from Central Asia to the American West. The deal made Rosatom one of the world’s largest uranium producers and brought Mr. Putin closer to his goal of controlling much of the global uranium supply chain.

“But the untold story behind that story is one that involves not just the Russian president, but also a former American president and a woman who would like to be the next one.

At the heart of the tale are several men, leaders of the Canadian mining industry, who have been major donors to the charitable endeavors of former President Bill Clinton and his family. Members of that group built, financed and eventually sold off to the Russians a company that would become known as Uranium One.

“Beyond mines in Kazakhstan that are among the most lucrative in the world, the sale gave the Russians control of one-fifth of all uranium production capacity in the United States. Since uranium is considered a strategic asset, with implications for national security, the deal had to be approved by a committee composed of representatives from a number of United States government agencies. Among the agencies that eventually signed off was the State Department, then headed by Mr. Clinton’s wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

As the Russians gradually assumed control of Uranium One in three separate transactions from 2009 to 2013, Canadian records show, a flow of cash made its way to the Clinton Foundation. Uranium One’s chairman used his family foundation to make four donations totaling $2.35 million. Those contributions were not publicly disclosed by the Clintons, despite an agreement Mrs. Clinton had struck with the Obama White House to publicly identify all donors. . .”

Also – Peter Wehner, Commentary: “Hillary Clinton’s Bribery Scandal

“. . . The Clintons have known for years that Hillary would run for president–and yet they still undertook this transparently unethical and potentially politically catastrophic action. The same is true of Mrs. Clinton’s deletion of 30,000 emails, another breathtakingly inappropriate, and possibly illegal, act. (It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that some of those deleted emails included a discussion of Uranium One, the company the Russians assumed control over.)

“All of this confirms what many of us have long believed: The Clintons are, in important respects, unethical and unscrupulous. They think the rules apply to other people but not them. They are self-indulgent, narcissistic, out of control. There don’t appear to be moral guardrails in place. They oversee a brutal political machine that destroys those who threaten their political viability. . .”

Also – Colin Campbell and Pamela Engel, Business Insider: “The Clinton Foundation received millions from investors as Putin took over 20% of US uranium deposits”

Also – Rosalind Helderman, WaPo: “For Clintons, speech income shows how their wealth is intertwined with charity”

“. . . The multiple avenues through which the Clintons and their causes have accepted financial support have provided a variety of ways for wealthy interests in the United States and abroad to build friendly relations with a potential future president. The flow of money also gives political opponents an opportunity to argue that Hillary Clinton would face potential conflicts of interest should she win the White House. . .”

Mike DeBonis, WaPo: ‘Loretta Lynch confirmed by Senate as attorney general”

“. . . Twenty Republicans supported a procedural move earlier Thursday to close debate and proceed to Lynch’s confirmation. But only half of them voted to confirm her in the final vote: Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), Thad Cochran (Miss.), Susan Collins (Maine), Jeff Flake (Ariz.), Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.), Orrin G. Hatch (Utah), Ron Johnson (Wis.), Mark Kirk (Ill.) and Rob Portman (Ohio). McConnell joined them after expressing reservations in the weeks leading up to the vote. . .”

M. Catherine Evans, American Thinker (11/9/2014) “Here we go again: AG nominee Loretta Lynch wants to free blacks from the ‘Prison of Racism’”

“If confirmed, it looks as if Barack Obama’s nominee for Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, will be carrying out  Eric Holder’s politics of racial vengeance. Based on her family history, social justice statements and close ties to black activists,  Lynch will deploy law enforcement resources based on race and political ideology, not on the rule of law. . . “. . . Lynch has a close relationship with Eric Holder and in a speech at the Martin Luther King Center in Long Beach, New York last year she vowed to continue his work at the Department of Justice and fight those in the “deep south” who want to take away blacks’ voting rights and reverse the progress of the last 50 years

Then she asks the young people in the audience, “What is it that makes you feel oppressed?” “Is it the prison of racism?”

“Last week the American people roundly rejected Obama’s divisive ‘post-racial’ racism and gave the Republicans one more chance to stand up for us. Will they say “No” to another Ivy League radical determined to undermine our rule of law by stirring up trouble between blacks and whites? Senator Lindsey Graham has already stated Lynch is a “solid choice” by the President. Graham’s  remark  begs the question, “When is enough enough for these guys?”

WSJ: “Wisconsin Goes to the Supremes”

“The U.S. Justices should hear a major First Amendment case.

“Wisconsin’s attempt to criminalize political speech is destined to become a case study on the use of election law to silence political opponents. Whether it is a cautionary tale or a blueprint for nationwide imitation is now up to the Supreme Court.

“On Friday the Justices will consider whether to hear O’Keefe v. Chisholm, a Section 1983 civil-rights lawsuit brought by Wisconsin Club for Growth director Eric O’Keefe against Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisholm and other prosecutors. The suit charges the prosecutors with a multi-year campaign to silence and intimidate conservative groups whose political speech they don’t like.

“The Supreme Court has made great strides in restoring First Amendment protections, and the Wisconsin case will test whether citizens can seek federal recourse when they are targeted and investigated for exercising those rights.

“In 2012 Mr. Chisholm and, later, special prosecutor Francis Schmitz began investigating the Wisconsin Club for Growth and dozens of other conservative outfits based on a theory that the groups had illegally coordinated during the 2011 and 2012 recall campaigns against Governor Walker and state legislative leaders. Mr. O’Keefe’s group ran no advertising to advocate for candidates, but prosecutors claimed its independent issue advocacy should be counted as an in-kind contribution to politicians who share their views.

“The theory was rejected by Wisconsin Judge Gregory Peterson but not before state law enforcement blanketed conservatives with subpoenas, raided their homes and put the targets under a gag order. For months following the subpoenas and the investigation’s leak to the press, conservative political advocates went silent lest they anger the prosecutors targeting them. . .”

John Batchelor/Henninger – Dems own Iran

Thursday  23 April 2015  / Hour 4, Block A: Daniel Henninger, WSJ, in re: The Democrats Own Iran  The Iran nuclear deal is all theirs—lock, stock and smoking centrifuges. The Democrats now own Iran—lock, stock and smoking centrifuges.  It isn’t just the Senate compromise on the Corker bill that made the Iran nuclear deal the party’s exclusive political property. The Democrats own Iran’s entire penetration in the region—Yemen, the Gulf of Aden, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon—pretty much anywhere Ayatollah Ali Khamenei wants to take them. (emph added, jb)  Senate Democrats, attempting a magical illusion on American voters, say the Iran nuclear threat and the Iran terror threat are separate realities.  Before the Senate’s recent “compromise” vote on Sen. Bob Corker’s Iran review bill, Delaware Sen. Chris Coons and other Senate Democrats, at the White House’s insistence, said while they abhorred Iran’s support for terrorism, it had to be separated from the historic arms deal.  Meanwhile Ayatollah Khamenei, a more unitary thinker, has been surging Iran’s military across the Middle East. With the U.S. on the doorstep of a presidential election, Iran is beginning to look like the Democrats’ Bermuda Triangle. The last time the party’s fortunes went missing in Iran was during what history generally describes as “Jimmy Carter’s hostage crisis.”

Aaron David Miller, CNN: “How Iran outfoxes U.S.”

(CNN)If I had to describe the U.S.-Iranian relationship in one word it would be “overmatched.”

“We’re playing checkers on the Middle East game board and Tehran’s playing three-dimensional chess. Iran has no problem reconciling its bad and contradictory behavior while we twist ourselves into knots over our tough choices, all the while convincing ourselves that America’s policy on the nuclear issue is on the right track.

“Iran isn’t 10 feet tall in this region, but by making the nuclear issue the be-all and end-all that is supposed to reduce Iran’s power, the United States is only making Tehran taller. “Consider the following . . .”

Angela Fritz, WaPo: “Winter makes an annoying comeback with late April snow”

“. . . Since Sunday, it has snowed in at least 23 states, as far south as New Mexico, according to the national snow analysis from the National Weather Service. Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin have been seeing snow all week, but are finally getting a reprieve on Thursday (if you can call temperatures in the 30s a reprieve). . .”

Mark Levin Show (4/23/15)

“On Thursday’s Mark Levin Show: Major Clinton donors sold control of 20% of America’s uranium to Russia in a deal that required permission from 7 major cabinet members of the Obama administration. This isn’t just a Clinton scandal, but an Obama administration scandal of the highest order and he should be held accountable. Our government has become institutionalized corruption.

“The GOP Senate will never hold Hillary or Obama accountable; they’re too busy confirming Obama’s Attorney general, Loretta Lynch. 10 GOP Senators, including Mitch McConnell, Orrin Hatch, and Lindsey Graham, have made sure that Lynch will continue to allow Obama to usurp the Constitution. Establishment Republicans like John McCain and Graham are too busy trashing conservatives like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz than prevent the confirmation of the most radical Attorney General in U.S. history.
