Oath Keepers, a national group with local chapters, will provide a speaker. We want to learn more about what they do, what their mission is, and get some insight into emergency preparation.  You may have heard that Oath Keepers were in Ferguson during the recent turmoil to support the local police.  We are waiting for confirmation regarding a speaker. Please stay tuned for more information.

VFP will also be doing another post card blitz to oppose the Iran Deal.  We will provide post cards, stamps and talking points.  The cards you write will be sent to key targets to lobby against the bad “Deal” where Iran gets billions from the U.S., dropped sanctions, unknown side deals and they get to keep their centrifuges. Even Chuck Schumer is against it.

PLEASE NOTE, SAVE THE DATE – VFP along with Faith & Freedom Coalition Penna. Chapter, and perhaps other local groups, will hold a prayer rally on September 12,  the day after our monthly meeting on 9-11. Speakers and members will be praying for our Country and for our leaders to bring us back to the foundational principles of our founding. We are working to secure a location but one good option is Valley Forge Park.  More information will be forthcoming.  Please spread the word through your churches, friends, and organizations.

As you can see, we are starting off our new season with a “bang”.  We want and need your help and participation to make things work.

Don Reimer: “Civic and Citizen Involvement Coalition”

“If Mr. Obama does not want an investigation to go forward, it does not go forward. Witness the scandals involving the Internal Revenue Service, Benghazi, Veterans Administration and Operation Fast and Furious gunrunning.” Monica Crowley

Thomas Sowell, RCP: “Immigration Excuses”

“. . . In so-called “sanctuary cities” across the country, local police are under orders not to report illegal immigrants to the federal authorities.

“Nobody has a right to obstruct justice when it comes to federal laws — not even the President of the United States, as Richard Nixon discovered when he had to resign after Democrats threatened him with impeachment and Republican Senators told him that they would not defend him.

“Today, any mayor of any city of any size across the country can publicly announce that he is going to obstruct federal laws against illegal immigrants — and then bask in a glow of self-satisfaction and the prospect of winning votes.

“Even people who are gung-ho to punish employers who do not take on the role of immigration police, for which they have neither training nor authority, are often ready to overlook elected officials who do have both the duty and the authority to uphold the laws, but openly refuse to do so.

“The federal government itself, under the Obama administration, has refused to enforce immigration laws, and has ordered its own agents to back off when it comes to enforcing some laws that President Obama happens not to like.

“Then there is also what might be called the pretense of enforcement — when people who have been caught illegally entering the country are turned loose inside the country and told to report back to a court later on. How surprised should we be when they don’t?

“One of the most widely known abuses of the immigration laws is the creation of “anchor babies” to get automatic citizenship when a pregnant woman simply crosses the U.S. border to have her child born on American soil. This is not limited to people who cross the Mexican border. Some are flown in from Asia to waiting posh facilities.

“Not only do their children get automatic American citizenship without having to meet any requirements, this also increases the opportunities for other family members to gain admission later on, in the name of “family reunification.”

“This is such an obvious racket, and so widely known, for so long, that you might think our “responsible” leaders would agree that it should be stopped. But, here again, there are excuses rather than action. . .”

Quin Hillyer, NRO: “An Unfiltered Interview with Scott Walker” “It’s safe to say that most conservatives across the country think pretty highly of Wisconsin governor Scott Walker and that he remains one of the few presidential candidates who are at least broadly acceptable to almost every sub-species of Republican. It’s not hard to find Wisconsinites who will wax rhapsodic about Walker’s job performance as well as how friendly and engaging he is.

“Yet in the wake of Donald Trump’s bluster, Walker’s quieter but battle-tested toughness and policy successes have seemed to fade a bit from view.

“In response, Walker hasn’t tried so much to match Trump’s glitz as to double down on his own considerable substance, issuing a health-care reform plan this week that earned almost universal praise on the right — including from National Review’s Yuval Levin, who called it “the most substantively and politically serious conservative health-care reform we have yet seen from a presidential candidate.” “In my 15-minute private phone interview with Walker on Thursday, I figured that his new health-care proposal should be the obvious starting point. Rather than filter the interview through my impressions, I’ll just present the highlights of the Q&A directly.

Quin Hillyer: You issued a health-care proposal this week. In as concise a way as possible, within 30 seconds if you can, what are you trying to accomplish, and how is it different from any other plan?

Scott Walker: Two parts: It’s repealing Obamacare once and for all, but doing it in a way that lights a fire under Congress to do it immediately. And it puts patients and families in control of their own health care. That’s why we call it “patient freedom.”

Stephen Dinan & Seth McLaughlin, Washington Times: “Donald Trump pushes birthright citizenship to forefront of political debate”

“Birthright citizenship, an issue long kicked about in Republican circles, has leaped to the forefront of the political debate, with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump leading the charge and drawing fierce fire from critics who say he and his fellow candidates are messing with a fundamental principle of American history.

The legal reality is much murkier, shrouded in historical roots of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which dealt with slaves, citizenship and equal rights — but the debate has exploded into the forefront of the presidential conversation.

This week, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who opposes changing birthright citizenship, took fire for using the term “anchor babies,” which immigrant rights activists say is offensive. Some of these activists also accused Mr. Trump of encouraging hate crimes, saying they’ve seen a spike in abusive emails since the billionaire businessman launched his campaign with a promise to get tough on immigration enforcement.

“We have always received hate mail from extremists for being Latinos and undocumented, but since Trump’s rhetoric toward immigrants started escalating, it has become much more intense,” said Cesar Vargas, co-director of the Dream Action Coalition, which advocates for so-called Dreamers, younger adults who were brought to the U.S. illegally as minors.

Mr. Trump’s six-page crackdown plan included calls to build more fencing, require illegal immigrants to go home before being readmitted with legal status and to end the policy granting automatic citizenship to almost everyone born in the U.S., including to illegal immigrant mothers.

Ian Tuttle, NRO: The Media Stays Shamefully Silent about the Most Shocking Planned Parenthood Video Yet”

“The seventh Planned Parenthood video is a bombshell.

“It features former StemExpress technician Holly O’Donnell, who has appeared in several of the other videos released by the Center for Medical Progress, describing an average day at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Alameda Clinic in San Jose, Calif.:

‘I want you to see something kinda cool. This is kinda neat,’ [her coworker says.] So I’m over here, and . . . the moment I see it, I’m just flabbergasted. This is the most gestated fetus and the closest thing to a baby I’ve seen. And she is, like, ‘Okay, I want to show you something.’ So she has one of her instruments, and she just taps the heart, and it starts beating. And I’m sitting here, and I’m looking at this fetus, and its heart is beating, and I don’t know what to think.’

“It’s that same fetus, heart still aflutter, whose brain O’Donnell is then asked to harvest. ‘[The coworker] gave me the scissors and told me that I had to cut down the middle of the face,’ she recalls. ‘I can’t even describe what that feels like.’

“As my colleague David French notes, assuming O’Donnell’s account is accurate, Planned Parenthood unquestionably violated state and federal laws. And it would not be the first time. In a recorded conversation excerpted in the video, Dr. Ben Van Handel, executive director of Novogenix Laboratories, LLC, which partners with Planned Parenthood to procure fetal organs, admits: ‘There are times when after the procedure is done that the heart actually is still beating.’. . .”

Sarah Ferris, The Hill: “Jindal to screen Planned Parenthood videos outside mansion”

“Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will try to counter a pro-Planned Parenthood rally scheduled to take place outside his mansion on Thursday by running a loop of the secretly recorded videos that they plan to protest.

“Jindal announced Thursday that he is setting up an outdoor movie screen and speakers outside the governor’s mansion to show the controversial videos, which he said too many of Planned Parenthood’s supporters have refused to watch.

“The showing will take place at the exact time of a scheduled protest by Planned Parenthood supporters.

“Planned Parenthood has a right to protest today, but Governor Jindal’s office will ensure that anyone who shows up will have to witness first-hand the offensive actions of the organization they are supporting,” Jindal, who is also a Republican presidential candidate, wrote in a statement. . .”

Scott Walker, USA Today: “Get DC out of our health care”

“ObamaCare was forced on the American people by Democrats who think the government knows best, chief among them, Hillary Clinton.

“The seeds of this destructive law were first planted by Clinton in the early 90s as part of her failed health care plan, HillaryCare, and in her 2008 campaign’s health care proposal.

“Although Clinton’s health care proposals failed, many of their central provisions — including the individual mandate and harsh penalties for those who don’t purchase insurance — succeeded in making their way into ObamaCare.

“So let’s call Obamacare what it is: the result of a decades-long plan by the most liberal wing of the Democratic Party to seize control of health care choice and freedom from individuals and states and hand total power over to the federal government in Washington.

“ObamaCare is a horrible failure based on phony promises and outrageous shell games peddled by the liberal Washington establishment and its special interest politics. They told Americans they could keep their health care plans, even though they couldn’t. They promised families health care premiums would go down, even though they wouldn’t. Millions promised new coverage were simply tossed onto state Medicaid rolls. The full list of broken promises is long.

“There is no fixing this disaster. ObamaCare must be repealed lock, stock and barrel. It’s time to take back the power Washington robbed from people, families, caregivers and states. I have a plan to do just that. . . .”

Ben Kamisar, The Hill: “CNN criteria threaten Fiorina’s chance at main debate stage”

“CNN’s criteria for its September GOP presidential debate may keep Carly Fiorina off the stage reserved for the top 10 candidates despite her recent surge in the polls.

“The CNN debate methodology, released earlier this year, weighs polls from July 16 to Sept. 10.

The use of the earlier surveys will hurt the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, who barely registered in the polls before the Aug. 6 Fox News debate. But since then, she has seen a significant bounce.

“‘It acts as sort of an anchor on those people who had done poorly early and a bit of a parachute for those people who have done well early,’ said Cliff Zukin, a Rutgers University political scientist and former president of the American Association for Public Opinion Research.

“The criteria could also protect Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) from sliding out of the top 10 despite his recent dip in polls.

“Fiorina received 1 percent support or less in most of the polls before the Fox News debate. After a strong performance at Fox’s second-tier debate, her numbers began to climb, jumping to 5 percent. campaign and supporters hope she can maintain polling numbers high enough to make CNN’s top 10.

CNN, which declined to comment on its criteria and their potential impact on the field for this story, has said it would use polls from ABC/The Washington Post, Bloomberg News, CBS/The New York Times, CNN,  FOX, Gallup, Marist, McClatchy, Monmouth University,  NBC/The Wall Street Journal, Pew, Quinnipiac, USA Today and Time.

“The network also has other qualifications it is considering, including a candidate having paid staff in two of the four early-voting states.

“Based on calculations for the 11 qualifying polls that have been conducted since July 16 — two of which were conducted since the Fox News debate — the main debate stage would look the same as it did earlier this month. . .”

Monica Crowley, Washington Times:” Why Obama is torpedoing Hillary Clinton”

Obama’s next job . . .

“There is only one person who controls Hillary Clinton’s fate, and it isn’t Hillary Clinton.

Mrs. Clinton is careening toward possible criminal charges involving her alleged mishandling of classified material on her personal email server while she was secretary of State. And President Obama is driving the bus.

“She and her team have, of course, reverted to form, blaming everyone but themselves: a “right-wing conspiracy,” The New York Times, overzealous investigators. What they are missing, however, is the one figure who wants her taken out politically, and who has the power to do it.

“She and Mr. Obama have a long history as frenemies. Recall Mr. Obama’s rejoinder at a 2008 debate, when Mrs. Clinton touted her likability: ‘You’re likable enough.’ Or recall President Bill Clinton’s famous put-down of Mr. Obama: ‘A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.’

“Beyond the bad blood, however, Mr. Obama has a more important reason for doing her in. As I have written previously, he needs a successor he can control. . .”

PA . . .

Eric Boehm, PA Independent: “How lawyers plan to bust Philadelphia’s ‘ghost teachers’”

“Lawyers are hoping a recent Arizona court decision supports their bid to bust Philadelphia ghost teachers.

“Earlier this year, the Fairness Center, a free legal service that defends workers against labor unions, filed a lawsuit against the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers and the School District of Philadelphia in an attempt to end the practice that permits teachers to leave the classroom to work full-time for the union.

“Under the current teachers’ contract, the PFT can pull up to 63 teachers each year to work for the union while they continue to draw a public salary, benefits and accrue school seniority.

“The PFT reimburses the district for those wages, but the Fairness Center argues it should be illegal for public employees to do private work for the union while still being credited for time spent in the classroom.

“In July, a Philadelphia judge ruled their case lacked standing. But this month, an Arizona court broke up a similar practice in which police officers were leaving the job to work for their union, a decision the Fairness Center’s lawyers believe sets a precedent for their appeal. . .”

Sy Snyder, PoliticsPA: “8/21 Ups & Downs”

Kathleen Kane. Just when you think you’ve finally got this whole thing figured out, there suddenly comes another twist. What began as rumors was confirmed this week as we learned that now the FBI is investigating the Attorney General. Apparently Kane tried to secure FOP support of her controversial Chief of Staff through a sweetened contract, while a trip to Haiti also raised flags within the bureau. Additionally, Kane must also respond to Claude Thomas’ suit and an unsealed order revealed that her email defense doesn’t make any sense. This was also a week that started off with the Governor stating that Kane is eroding people’s trust in government. It all makes you wonder how much more this can possibly go on until Kathleen Kane recognizes the inevitable.

Donald Trump. So its [sic!] come to this. Really, though, we had no choice. First, Trump easily won a straw poll among Republicans in Bucks County. Then, the latest Quinnipiac Poll showed that “The Donald” is the GOP front-runner in the Keystone State. Perhaps we’ll look back at this moment in a few months and laugh (you know, harder than we’re laughing now).

Chaka Fattah. Congressman Fattah is giving even Kathleen Kane and Donald Trump a run for their money. On Tuesday, he plead not guilty to the 29 counts that he’s been charged with. When confronted by the press Rep. Fattah stated, ‘I’m hoping the Eagles have a great season. And I’m concerned about that trade of DeSean Jackson.’ Except the Eagles cut Jackson, and it was over 500 days ago. Still, the Congressman managed to top that with his bizarre video statement. Seemingly filmed in his office (without the aid of any kind of lighting), Fattah defends himself in a rambling four and a half minute address. At one point, the phone even starts ringing and they just keep on filming. Finally, Philly’s Ninth Ward leader Dan Muroff announced that he’ll be challenging Fattah in next year’s Democratic primary.

Todd Stephens. Yesterday, the Montgomery County State Rep. officially declared that he will run for Attorney General in 2016. Stephens laid out his campaign vision effectively in his opening video and made it clear he’ll be running on experience and turning the page on the Kathleen Kane saga. He should enjoy the campaign while he can, as he’ll soon run up against his Republican primary opponent, State Sen. John Rafferty. Not to mention the fact that the Democratic field is starting to form with Jack Stollsteimer already in the race while John Morganelli, Josh Shapiro and maybe even Kane herself are looming.

Budget Deal. Could we finally be reaching a turning point? Well, maybe. The week didn’t start out looking very promising after we learned that several social services are desperately low on cash. Then, Governor Wolf appeared to dig in his heels and prepare for a fall political battle over who is to blame for the stalemate. On Wednesday, though, the GOP offered Wolf a “take it or leave it” deal in which they offered educational funding for pension reform (at least that’s how they put it). It may be possible this leads to a breakthrough, but it also seems just as likely to be more posturing. If a deal doesn’t come soon, it may take quite awhile.”

Mark Levin Show (8/20/15)

“On Thursday’s Mark Levin Show: Leading Republicans and TV hosts keep spewing inaccuracies about the 14th Amendment and birthright citizenship because they want us to act as if there’s nothing we can do and move on. Now the term anchor baby is being called offensive by the left; it’s because the words have meaning and explain exactly what’s going on. Once a child becomes of age, they can import close family members – also known as chain migration. Sen Rick Santorum calls in to discuss his plan to reform legal and illegal immigration. Also, the Department of Defense is looking for sites in the United States to transfer the terrorists being held in Guantanamo Bay. President Obama wants to bring Al-Qaeda terrorists civilian judicial rules; he’s not only weak on national security, but when it comes to handling terrorists too.

“Later, it’s no wonder why the Obama administration tried so hard to keep the secret side deals to the Iran deal quiet now that we’re learning what’s in them. Anyone who votes for the Iran deal is undermining American security and ensuring a nuclear Islamo-nazi regime.”
