Kevin Williamson, NRO: “Pinocchios with Pensions”
The State Department lies, covers up the lie, and admits it, but no one loses his job. “The State Department lied to the American public to sell the Iran deal. The State Department acknowledged this lie, in public, during a press conference. The State Department destroyed video evidence of its having done this, and then admitting doing so.
“None of this is in dispute. “Nobody is getting fired. “Jen Psaki, the witless Pippi Longstocking of the American diplomatic project, admitted under questioning from James Rosen of Fox News that the State Department had lied — flat-out — about the fact that secret talks had been under way between the United States and Iran over the Islamic terror state’s nuclear-weapons program. Psaki attempted to justify this lie, insisting that “diplomacy needs privacy,” which is true enough. But this wasn’t private, or a question of discretion: The facts were out there, and the State Department lied about them. “Is it any wonder that Mrs. Clinton, to whom deception is an instinct, felt so at ease in the State Department that she went to extraordinary, illegal lengths to conceal her communication as secretary of state from the public and from ordinary oversight? . .”

CBS: “Police Officer Assaulted in Riots at Trump Rally in San Jose”
“SAN JOSE (CBS) — A few hundred protesters fought with supporters of Donald Trump after the presidential candidate’s rally in San Jose Thursday night.
“Over a dozen fights broke out in the crowd.
“Punches were thrown, violence erupted. Even police had to retreat.
“The San Jose Police Department made a number of arrests after the Trump Rally and said an officer was assaulted.
“Protesters followed Trump supporters to their cars as they left the convention center. Around the corner and away from police protection on San Carlos Street, a mob mentality took over.
“A young man wearing a ‘Build The Wall’ T-shirt was assaulted by several young men. Fearing for the man’s safety, KPIX reporter Len Ramirez yelled at him to get away.
“For several minutes, there was no police presence and protesters thumped Trump supporters’ cars in the parking garage as they tried to leave.
“Outside again, there was another assault, and another. Street fights broke out on Almaden Avenue…
Andrew Acevedo, of Redwood City, said he was assaulted several times while getting stuck inside the anti-Trump protest rally.
“As police tried to restore order protesters forced a police pickup to retreat.
“Police lines formed again, but the crowds only grew. . .”
Paul Ryan, Gazette Extra: “Donald Trump can help make reality of bold House policy agenda”
“ . . .If we had a Republican president ready to sign bills into law, what would we do?
“This month, we’ll show the country what a better tax code looks like. We’ll outline a plan not just for repealing Obamacare but replacing it with a better system, more focused on patients, choices and lower costs. We’ll offer a plan to restore the Constitution and the separation of powers that decades of executive overreach have eroded. We’ll present the ideal national security and foreign policy to keep Americans safe. We’ll show how we can reform rules and regulations so they’re spurring the economy and creating jobs, not destroying them. And we’ll offer a better way to help lift people out of poverty and into lives of self-determination.
“It will be a positive, optimistic vision for a more confident America.
“It’s short of all that’s required to save the country, but the goal was to focus on issues that unite Republicans. It’s a bold agenda but one that can bring together all wings of the Republican Party as well as appeal to most Americans.
“One person who we know won’t support it is Hillary Clinton. A Clinton White House would mean four more years of liberal cronyism and a government more out for itself than the people it serves. Quite simply, she represents all that our agenda aims to fix.
“To enact these ideas, we need a Republican president willing to sign them into law. That’s why, when he sealed the nomination, I could not offer my support for Donald Trump before discussing policies and basic principles.
“As I said from the start, my goal has been to unite the party so we can win in the fall. And if we’re going to unite, it has to be over ideas.
“Donald Trump and I have talked at great length about things such as the proper role of the executive and fundamental principles such as the protection of life. The list of potential Supreme Court nominees he released after our first meeting was very encouraging.
“But the House policy agenda has been the main focus of our dialogue. We’ve talked about the common ground this agenda can represent. We’ve discussed how the House can be a driver of policy ideas. We’ve talked about how important these reforms are to saving our country. And we’ve talked about how, by focusing on issues that unite Republicans, we can work together to heal the fissures developed through the primary.
“Through these conversations, I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people’s lives. That’s why I’ll be voting for him this fall . . .”

Rushbo: “Struggling Hillary Plays the Victim Card”
“. . . UK Daily Mail, an incredibly increasingly reliable publication. I think the Daily Mail is great. The Daily Mail has stories going on in this country that the media here never touch. Plus, if you love gossip, there’s nobody better. The Daily Mail gossip, Wendy, you should check it out, ’cause there’s nothing better. It’s never ending, photos and everything, on the gossip side.
“But there’s this. “FBI agents investigating the death of [Vince Foster] found that Hillary Clinton ‘triggered’ his suicide when she attacked and humiliated her mentor from their former Rose Law Firm in front of other White House aides a week before he took his own life.”
“Hillary triggered the suicide of Vince Foster when she attacked and humiliated him in front of White House staff one week before his death. This is according to FBI agents. “Vince Foster shot himself with a .38 caliber revolver at Fort Marcy Park along the Potomac River on July 20, 1993.” I happened to be in Israel at that time.
“A week before his death, First Lady Hillary Clinton held a meeting with Foster and other aides to discuss her proposed health care legislation. Hillary violently disagreed with a legal objection Foster raised and ridiculed him in front of his peers, say former FBI agents. ‘Hillary put him down really, really bad in a pretty good-size meeting,’ former agent Coy Copeland reveals. ‘She told him he would always be a little hick town lawyer who was obviously not ready for the big time.’ says Copeland. ‘You have failed us,’ Hillary told Foster according to former FBI Jim Clemente says. Foster’s behavior changed dramatically — he became withdrawn and preoccupied, and his sense of humor vanished.
“Ronald Kessler, a former Washington Post and Wall Street Journal investigative reporter, is the New York Times bestselling author of The First Family Detail: Secret Service Agents Reveal the Hidden Lives of the Presidents and The Secrets of the FBI.” “It’s actually a Ronald Kessler book, slash, story, the UK Daily Mail has picked up on. You won’t see this at ABC, CBS, NBC, New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, LA Times, take your pick.
“Named FBI agents said Hillary Clinton drove Vince Foster to suicide. Hmm. Hmm. …”
Jochen Bittner, NYT: “Is This the West’s Weimar Moment?”
“Setting aside debate about whether the rise of Nazism was built into the German DNA, there were four trends that led the country to reject its post-World War I constitutional, parliamentary democracy, known as the Weimar Republic: economic depression, loss of trust in institutions, social humiliation and political blunder. To a certain degree, these trends can be found across the West today.
“First, the history. The Black Friday stock-market collapse of 1929 set off a global depression. As bad as things were in America, they were even worse in Germany, where industrial production shrank by half in the following three years. Stocks lost two-thirds of their value. Inflation and unemployment skyrocketed. The Weimar government, already held in low esteem by many Germans, seemed to have no clue about what to do.
“All this happened as traditional ways of life and values were being shaken by the modernization of the 1920s. Women suddenly went to work, to vote, to party and to sleep with whomever they wanted. This produced a widening cultural gap between the tradition-oriented working and middle classes and the cosmopolitan avant-garde — in politics, business and the arts — that reached a peak just when economic disaster struck. The elites were blamed for the resulting chaos, and the masses were ripe for a strongman to return order to society.
“Some people today imagine that Hitler sneaked up on Germany, that too few people understood the threat. In fact, many mainstream politicians recognized the danger but they failed to stop him. Some didn’t want to: The conservative parties and the nobility believed the little hothead could serve as their useful idiot, that as chancellor he would be contained by a squad of reasonable ministers. Franz von Papen, a nobleman who was Hitler’s first vice chancellor, said of the new leader, “We’ve hired him.”
“At the same time, even the imminent threat of a fascist dictatorship couldn’t persuade the left-wing parties to join forces. Instead of being conciliatory for the sake of the national interest, Ernst Thälmann, the head of the German Communist Party, branded the center-left Social Democrats the “moderate wing of fascism.” No wonder Hitler had an easy time uniting broad sections of the German public.
“Are we at another Weimar moment now? . . .”
Douglas Schoen, WSJ: “Clinton Might Not Be the Nominee”
A Sanders win in California would turbocharge the mounting Democratic unease about her viability
“There is now more than a theoretical chance that Hillary Clinton may not be the Democratic nominee for president.
“How could that happen, given that her nomination has been considered a sure thing by virtually everyone in the media and in the party itself? Consider the possibilities.
“The inevitability behind Mrs. Clinton’s nomination will be in large measure eviscerated if she loses the June 7 California primary to Bernie Sanders. That could well happen.
“A recent PPIC poll shows Mrs. Clinton with a 2% lead over Mr. Sanders, and a Fox News survey found the same result. Even a narrow win would give him 250 pledged delegates or more—a significant boost. California is clearly trending to Mr. Sanders, and the experience in recent open primaries has been that the Vermont senator tends to underperform in pre-election surveys and over-perform on primary and caucus days, thanks to the participation of new registrants and young voters.
“To this end, data from mid-May show that there were nearly 1.5 million newly registered Democratic voters in California since Jan. 1. That’s a 218% increase in Democratic voter registrations compared with the same period in 2012, a strongly encouraging sign for Mr. Sanders. . .”
“In her sworn testimony made public this week, longtime Clinton aide Cheryl Mills proved that Team Hillary won’t give up an ounce of truth without a fight.
“Mills, Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff at the State Department, was deposed by lawyers for Judicial Watch, the watchdog that has driven most of the key revelations about Clinton’s email transgressions.
“Juiciest of all was Mills’ excuse for Clinton’s failure to turn over her emails, all official government information, on leaving office: There was ‘a lot going on.’
“‘The secretary was not only transitioning, there had been a — we had lost our first ambassador [Christopher Stevens, in the Benghazi terrorist attack] in quite some time, and we were stepping through the sets of issues associated with that,’ Mills said.
“Hmm. But then Clinton sat on the emails for two years, only handing them over after hackers revealed her secret setup.
“In fact, the record’s clear that she ‘went home-brew’ precisely to frustrate Freedom of Information Act requests. Worse, Clinton and her inner circle all signed agreements promising to safeguard classified info — then winked as the private server put those secrets at risk.
“The rest of Mills’ testimony was just as tendentious, including 40 answers of ‘I don’t recall’ and 182 of ‘I don’t know.’ And the seven attorneys accompanying her objected to roughly 250 questions.
“Even when sworn to tell the truth, Hillary & Co. are all about the stonewall.”
Replay: John Fund, NRO: “If Clinton Implodes, Democrats May Turn to Biden and Warren”
“The persistence and growth of Hillary’s e-mail scandal concerns party leaders
‘Smart Democrats began dusting off copies of their Plan B for the 2016 fall campaign this week. They were prompted by a devastating report from Department of Justice inspector general, who found that ‘significant security risks’ were raised by Hillary Clinton’s decision to use a private e-mail server at the State Department.
“Democrats know that an FBI report, potentially even more damaging, may be leaked in the coming weeks. Even if Hillary faces no criminal liability, she could find the number of Americans who view her as honest and trustworthy dropping below Donald Trump’s numbers. Former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein, who helped break open the Watergate scandal in the 1970s, told CNN:
‘Hillary Clinton did not want her e-mails subjected to the Freedom of Information Act or subpoenas from Congress, and that’s why she set up a home-brew server. I think we all know that. People around her will tell you that in private if you really get them behind a closed door.
‘I spoke to a number of top Democratic officials, and they’re terrified, including people at the White House, that her campaign is in freefall because of this distrust factor. And, indeed, Trump has a similar problem. But she’s the one whose numbers are going south.’
“Trump lies about his businesses and changes with the wind,” one former Democratic senator told me. “But if Hillary is found to have compromised national security, that will be viewed as more relevant to the job of president.”

“Wednesday 1 June 2016 / Hour 3, Block A: Monica Crowley, Fox, & Washington Times Online opinion editor; in re: The theory of the Democratic puzzle is that he Obamas and Clintons loathe each other to a huge degree; plus ideological dimension – In the 1990s Bill Clinton was a pragmatic, Blue-Dog centrist Democrat. When he ran, he dragged the Dems from the radical left to the center; was rewarded by being elected twice. Today’s Democratic Party is Mr Obama’s, moved back to the radical left. He will not allow the Party to return to the hands of the Clintons as he doesn’t trust them any direction. He needs a successor he can control, and who’ll carry on his revolution, and someone who won’t investigate the disasters of the last eight years – health care, immigrati0n, Benghazi, Fast and Furious many; he’s stopped the investigations he didn’t want. The compbinati0n of personal and ideological animus suggests that Mrs Clinton will go down in flames, whereas Mr Biden could hold the course, and at his age he’ll be one term; and last August he met secretly with Elizabeth Warren, who’d be a perfect sequel to Mr Obama. As this theory is speculated on very widely, note no disagreement from Biden or Warren. Now seems to be assented to by Steve Forbes, Doug Schoen, John Fund, and others. As everyone attacks Trump, no one rides to Mrs Clinton’s defense. The dog that doesn’t bark (emph added, jb). (1 of 4)
