Janet: Please call your House members NOW and tell them VOTE “NO” on the Continuing Resolution (CR) or H.R 5325. This is URGENT because the voting will take place this week. If it passes, it will give Congress and Obama all they need to stuff the Lame Duck session after the November election with pork and other BAD bills. The mischief making gives power and NO ACCOUNTABILITY to Obama and lawmakers who lost and will not return to Congress

“NO” on Lame Duck Continuing Resolution (H.R. 5325)

Rabbi Eric Yoffie, Haaretz: “Shimon Peres Was Israel’s Voice of Hope

“Shimon Peres was an optimist not blinded by messianism, who responded with dignity, calm, and compelling logic to his persistent critics in Israel and on the American Jewish right.”

Debra Heine, PJM: “FBI Docs: Hillary Deleted Nearly 1,000 Emails With David Petraeus”

“A potentially explosive nugget from the FBI’s Friday document dump of investigatory notes from the Clinton email probe has been all but ignored by the media. And that is the revelation that Hillary Clinton deleted 1,000 work-related emails between herself and General David Petaeus from his time as the director of the United States Central Command.

Via the Washington Examiner:

“‘In Aug. 2015, the Pentagon called the State Department and informed an unnamed official there that ‘CENTCOM records showed approximately 1,000 work-related emails between Clinton’s personal email and General David Petraeus.’

‘The FBI noted that ‘[m]ost of those 1,000 emails were not believed to be included in the 30,000 emails’ that Clinton turned over to the State Department in Dec. 2014.

‘Hillary has long maintained that the emails her lawyers unilaterally deleted were personal emails pertaining to “yoga routines, family vacations” and other matters that had nothing to do with government. She repeated the same nonsense to Congress while under oath. In August of 2015, she signed a statement to a federal judge declaring “under penalty of perjury” that she turned over all work-related emails. . .’”

“. . . Donald Trump once called a woman overweight vs. Hillary Clinton repeatedly threatening Bill Clinton’s sexual abuse victims.

“Which story is the media interested in and which one won’t they touch? No prizes for guessing the correct answer.

“But that’s not even the worst part of it.

“Machado, who is now a fully signed up Hillary campaign surrogate, was accused of driving a getaway car to aid her boyfriend in a plot to murder his brother-in-law at the funeral of the dead man’s wife and then threatening to kill the judge who was in charge of convicting Juan Rodriguez Reggeti.

“Despite giving conflicting stories on where she was at the time, the judge said there was insufficient evidence to prove she was at the scene of the crime. . .”

Rushbo: The Debate

Trump was probably smart enough to save his best for the 2nd debate!

“RUSH: Okay, folks, let’s just get straight to it.  For people watching this debate last night through the usual prism, through the standard inside-the-Beltway, insider establishment elite circles, if you watched the debate with that as your life experience, with that defining your expectations and that defining your analysis and commentary, Hillary Clinton won this debate in a knockout.  If that’s how you watch these things.

“And that’s how the Drive-Bys see it.  That’s how party officials see it.  That’s how elected officials see it.  That is how people inside the Beltway in the business of politics saw the debate last night overall.  At the end of the night, most people don’t want to say it, but Hillary Clinton won in a knockout.  The Drive-Bys all think so, and so do many others.  Why?  Well, because, Hillary was a perfect insider Washington politician.

“She spoke in robotic devotion to the meaningless political prattling, going on and on about her plan for this and her plan for that, and this plan over here. And all of the experts who’ve looked at her plan and say it’s the best plan, and all the experts that have looked at his plan and say it’s the worst plan.  And then we got the obligatory takedown of trickle-down economics for about the gazillionth time in 30 years.  We got the obligatory takedown of the rich aren’t paying their fair share for I don’t know how many umpteenth million times Democrat politicians have been preaching that in the last 30 years.

“It was boring.  It was robotic.  It was almost, especially the first 20 minutes, Hillary Clinton was blindsided, she didn’t know what had hit her, maybe the first 30 minutes.  She looked out of it. She looked rattled. She looked like she wasn’t prepared for the way Trump was behaving and what Trump had to say.  She was totally programmed.  She was programmed to wait for openings either provided by Trump or provided by Lester Holt.  She was waiting for memorized zingers to be implemented and used.

“She was exactly what people are fed up with. . .”

Salena Zito, NY Post: “How Trump won over a bar full of undecideds and Democrats

“When Al Gore turned the party toward its progressive wing in 2000, however, he left behind Westmoreland County Democrats.

“Democrats here are more traditional in their values — they are pro-gun, pro-life, pro-coal, something today’s Democratic Party has left no room for.

“Trump probably connects better with such voters than did Romney in 2012, or John McCain in 2008; a large part of the reason is his outside-the-box style. Yet for him to win the state, such voters need to turn out in force — here and elsewhere — to offset Philly’s overwhelming numbers. . .”

NY Post: “Clinton, Trump round one a draw — and that’s bad news for Hillary

“The first Clinton-Trump debate was roughly a draw — which is bad news for her, because she needs to turn this race around, and she failed.

“Clinton was on the attack most of the night, with the marked help of moderator Lester Holt. But she didn’t score any body blows — nor remotely offer a rationale for her candidacy beyond he’s just too dangerous, a case she failed to make.

“Trump wasted time on pointless defense on basically irrelevant issues — the birther stuff, his taxes and so on. But he didn’t come off as the maniac she needs him to be. New to this game, yes; too volatile, no.

“And, while he failed to hit on some obvious openings (no mention of her e-mail follies when cybersecurity came up), he hit hard on the fact that she’s been around forever without actually delivering on anything she’s promising now.

“Indeed, Trump won the opening round — because he actually had credible ideas on creating jobs (better deals on trade, lower taxes on business, less deadening regulation), while she offered nothing beyond social-justice thoughts on “justice”: equal pay, sick leave, tax the rich to pay for it all. Good stuff for people who are employed; nothing for those who aren’t.

“Donald Trump remains the candidate of change; Hillary Clinton, the tribune of the status quo.”

Daily Mail: “Majority of snap polls show Trump won debate by a landslide despite CNN’s overwhelming victory for Hillary in biggest official survey

  • CNN’s snap poll gave Clinton the win with 62 per cent to Trump’s 27
  • But most of the others reported Trump was the winner by a landslide
  • The pair engaged in a vigorous back-and-forth at Hofstra University
  • Here, we present the results from snap polls conducted after the debate

Jonathan Turley, USA Today: “Clinton confidant’s immunity deal looms over debate”

“FBI appears to have undermined its own investigation with ill-considered witness agreements.

“When FBI Director James B. Comey announced that there would be no criminal charges in the Clinton email scandal, there was an outcry by many who saw glaring contradictions, attempts to destroy evidence, and knowing failures to protect classified or sensitive information.  At the time, I acknowledged that Comey’s decision was understandable and, while criminal charges might have been possible, this was not out of bounds of prosecutorial discretion. However, the news this week of a previously undisclosedimmunity deal with a top Clinton aide raises serious questions over the handling of the FBI investigation.

“The latest recipient of an immunity deal from the Justice Department is one of Clinton’s closest aides and a figure at the heart of the email scandal, Cheryl Mills. She joins two other central figures in benefiting from such deals: former State Department staffer, Bryan Pagliano and tech specialist Paul Combetta. In addition to at least two other immunized witnesses according to the Associated Press, they represent the big three of officials involved in the underlying allegations of Clinton’s potential criminal conduct. Their collective immunization is baffling. . .”

Francis Martel, National Security: “Japan Scrambles Jets as China Sends 40 Warplanes into Shared Strait”

“The Chinese military conducted what it called a “routine” control that sent Japanese jets scrambling Sunday over the East China Sea, with Japan warning that they are keeping an eye on the increasingly “expansive” activities of China’s military assets.

“China sent over 40 military aircraft, according to the AFP, over an area known as the Miyako Strait near southern Japan, not crossing into Japanese exclusive airspace but cutting close enough that the Japanese self-defense forces responded promptly. The area is near the East China Sea, where China claims the Japanese Senkaku Islands, an uninhabited but resource-rich area. Two of the known aircraft are believed to have been fighter jets.

“The area is near the East China Sea, where China claims the Japanese Senkaku Islands, an uninhabited but resource-rich area. Two of the known aircraft are believed to have been fighter jets. The Associated Press identifies the known aircraft passing through the region as “two fighter jets, four bombers and two reconnaissance aircraft.”

Paul Shinkman, US News: “Military Success Against ISIS Will Create ‘Terrorist Diaspora’”

Obama’s next job?

“Top counterterrorism officials say the Islamic State group’s threat doesn’t end with its defeat on the battlefield.

“The U.S.-led military strategy to defeat the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria will create a cheaper, nimbler and lethally dangerous version of the terror network in terms of its ability to attack Western targets, top counterterror officials said Tuesday.

“The so-called caliphate will be crushed,” FBI Director James Comey told members of Congress Tuesday morning, adding, “Through the fingers of that crush will come hundreds of very dangerous people.”

“There will be a terrorist diaspora some time in the next two to five years like we’ve never seen before.”

“Comey testified before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs alongside Jeh Johnson, the secretary of Homeland Security, and Nicholas Rasmussen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center – two organizations founded in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks to prevent another such incident. . .”

Financial Times: “Fed on ropes as Yellen seeks to fend off Trump blows

I always have been a Burr fan . . .

“Populist attacks from all sides make central bank vulnerable to calls to rein it in, say analysts

“After a fusillade of excoriating and in many ways unprecedented attacks on the Federal Reserve by the Republican presidential candidate, Janet Yellen, the US central bank’s chair, finally hit back.

“Ms Yellen last Wednesday dismissed as emphatically wrong Donald Trump’s claims that she and her institution were keeping short-term interest rates low at the behest of the Obama administration. ‘Partisan politics play no role in our decisions,’ she declared.

“Mr Trump is throwing punches at a time when the US central bank is under assault from both sides of the partisan divide, and at a time when polling suggests public confidence in its leadership has declined during a subpar economic recovery. . .”

Kelly Cohen, Washington Examiner: “Louisiana attorney general: Crime is up in ‘sanctuary cities’”

Philadelphia & Lancaster?

“Louisiana’s chief legal officer said Tuesday that crime has increased in so-called ‘sanctuary cities’ that pledge not to pursue or prosecute illegal immigrants.

In prepared remarks to the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said sanctuary city policies ‘allow illegals to commit crimes, then roam free in our communities.’

“The remarks came in a hearing on New Orleans, and how the city has become a ‘sanctuary city’ following new policies that went into effect on Feb. 28 that forbid city police from inquiring into an individual’s immigration status. Those policies were written by the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division following a request in 2010 by Mayor Mitch Landrieu for the agency to help reform the city’s police department.

“Landry, a former House member, cited recent statistics from Los Angeles, another sanctuary city, to show that crime jumps in these jurisdictions. . .”
