Salena Zito, DC Examiner: “Winning the Transition”
“It’s not as if we need any reminders,” said Paul Sracic, a political science professor at nearby Youngstown State University. “Trump has dominated the news cycle. It is almost like Barack Obama has disappeared and Trump is already president.
“He is all we talk about. He is already saving or creating jobs, with what happened with Carrier along with the big but vague announcement with a Japanese billionaire who said he was going to invest $50 billion in the American economy and jobs.”
“Two weeks ago president-elect Trump went to the Carrier Corp. plant in Indianapolis to announce that he saved nearly 1,000 jobs; last week he took credit for the $50 billion U.S. investment pledge by Masayoshi Son, the colorful billionaire founder of SoftBank, a Japanese tech conglomerate, a deal Trump says wouldn’t have happened without him.
“There really has not been a break since the day he won the election, Sracic said.
“And for voters around here — the most concentrated area in the country that went from being Obama supporters to Trump supporters — he is winning the transition from candidate to president. . .”
Kimberley Strassel, WSJ: “Trump’s Federalist Revival”
“The president-elect’s EPA pick will restore balance to the federal-state relationship
“Donald Trump had barely finished announcing his pick to lead the Environmental Protection Agency before the left started listing its million reasons why Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt was the worst nomination in the history of the planet: He’s an untrained anti-environmentalist. He’s a polluter. He’s a fossil-fuel fanatic, a lobbyist-lover, a climate crazy.
“Mr. Pruitt is not any of those things. Here’s what he in fact is, and the real reason the left is frustrated: He’s a constitutional scholar, a federalist (and a lawyer). And for those reasons he is a sublime choice to knock down the biggest conceit of the Obama era—arrogant, overweening (and illegal) Washington rule.
“We’ve lived so many years under the Obama reign that many Americans forget we are a federal republic, composed of 50 states. There isn’t a major statute on the books that doesn’t recognize this reality and acknowledge that the states are partners with—and often superior to—the federal government. That is absolutely the case with major environmental statues, from the Clean Air Act to the Clean Water Act to the Safe Drinking Water Act. . .”
Andrea Mitchell, NBC: “Rex Tillerson of ExxonMobil Expected to Be Named Trump’s Secretary of State: Sources”
“The 64-year-old veteran oil executive has no government or diplomatic experience, although he has ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The pick would put to rest weeks-long speculation of who would earn the post as the U.S.’s top diplomat, and would place Tillerson fourth in line to the presidency.
“He will also be paired with former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton as his deputy secretary of state, one of the sources added, with Bolton handling day-to-day management of the department.
“The sources cautioned that nothing is final until the president-elect officially announces it, which could happen as early as next week.. . .”
Russia’s Dozen North Pole Bases (replay from CATS, 10/01/16)
For those who want to worry about Russians! . . .
“So as ice in the Arctic continues to melt and access to natural resources continues to increase, Russia is making the investments and the decisions now to position themselves for the future. More bases and troops in the Arctic will help them claim and defend territory and resources. Technological advances like arctic-optimized helicopters and mobile power plants will enable people to live, operate, and be transported throughout the Arctic with ease. New energy plants, deep-water ports, and airfields will enable resources to be shipped throughout the globe, and the world’s most powerful icebreakers will help clear the way. Russia is making these investments to not just operate in the Arctic, but to dominate it.”
Christian Datoc, Daily Caller: “RNC Spokesman Slams WaPo, NYT Reports — The Russians Never Hacked Us [VIDEO]”
“Sean Spicer told CNN’s Michael Smerconish Saturday morning that the reports claiming the Russian government hacked the Republican National Committee during the 2016 election are false.
“Hill staffers briefed on the assessment claim it states with ‘high confidence that [Russia] hacked the DNC and the RNC.’
“The reports further claim that while the DNC documents were handed over to WikiLeaks for publication, the hackers ‘conspicuously released no documents’ from the RNC breach, indicating ‘that Russia’s goal here was to favor one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected,’ the Post’s source explained.
“Spicer, however, cast doubts on the reports Saturday, claiming that the RNC is working with separate U.S. intelligence agencies who have concluded that the RNC was not hacked. . .”
Craig Murray, CraigMurray.Org.UK: “The CIA’s Absence of Conviction”
“I have watched incredulous as the CIA’s blatant lie has grown and grown as a media story – blatant because the CIA has made no attempt whatsoever to substantiate it. There is no Russian involvement in the leaks of emails showing Clinton’s corruption. Yes this rubbish has been the lead today in the Washington Post in the US and the Guardian here, and was the lead item on the BBC main news. I suspect it is leading the American broadcasts also.
“A little simple logic demolishes the CIA’s claims. The CIA claim they “know the individuals” involved. Yet under Obama the USA has been absolutely ruthless in its persecution of whistleblowers, and its pursuit of foreign hackers through extradition. We are supposed to believe that in the most vital instance imaginable, an attempt by a foreign power to destabilise a US election, even though the CIA knows who the individuals are, nobody is going to be arrested or extradited, or (if in Russia) made subject to yet more banking and other restrictions against Russian individuals? Plainly it stinks. The anonymous source claims of “We know who it was, it was the Russians” are beneath contempt.
“As Julian Assange has made crystal clear, the leaks did not come from the Russians. As I have explained countless times, they are not hacks, they are insider leaks – there is a major difference between the two. And it should be said again and again, that if Hillary Clinton had not connived with the DNC to fix the primary schedule to disadvantage Bernie, if she had not received advance notice of live debate questions to use against Bernie, if she had not accepted massive donations to the Clinton foundation and family members in return for foreign policy influence, if she had not failed to distance herself from some very weird and troubling people, then none of this would have happened.
“The continued ability of the mainstream media to claim the leaks lost Clinton the election because of “Russia”, while still never acknowledging the truths the leaks reveal, is Kafkaesque. . .”
Also – Paul Joseph Watson, InfoWars: “FORMER UK AMBASSADOR: ‘I MET THE DNC LEAKER AND HE ISN’T RUSSIAN’”
“Craig Murray calls “bullsh*t” on CIA claims
“Despite the Washington Post admitting that there was no conclusive evidence the Kremlin directed the hacker who leaked the DNC emails and the subsequent Podesta emails, the mainstream media is going wild with the baseless conspiracy theory that Putin helped Trump defeat Clinton in a bid to de-legitimize Trump or even force another vote.
“I know who leaked them,” Murray told the Guardian. “I’ve met the person who leaked them, and they are certainly not Russian and it’s an insider.”
“Murray points out that the DNC emails were leaked not hacked, by an insider who was most likely upset at Clinton and the DNC rigging the primary against Bernie Sanders.
“Wikileaks has also denied all along that the source behind the DNC leaks was Russia, with Julian Assange alluding to the probability that it was murdered DNC staffer Seth Rich. . .”
Adam Entous, Ellen Nakashima, & Greg Miller, WaPo: “Secret CIA assessment says Russia was trying to help Trump win White House”
“The CIA has concluded in a secret assessment that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win the presidency, rather than just to undermine confidence in the U.S. electoral system, according to officials briefed on the matter.
“Intelligence agencies have identified individuals with connections to the Russian government who provided WikiLeaks with thousands of hacked emailsfrom the Democratic National Committee and others, including Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, according to U.S. officials. Those officials described the individuals as actors known to the intelligence community and part of a wider Russian operation to boost Trump and hurt Clinton’s chances.
“‘It is the assessment of the intelligence community that Russia’s goal here was to favor one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected,’ said a senior U.S. official briefed on an intelligence presentation made to U.S. senators. ‘That’s the consensus view.’
“The Obama administration has been debating for months how to respond to the alleged Russian intrusions, with White House officials concerned about escalating tensions with Moscow and being accused of trying to boost Clinton’s campaign.
“In September, during a secret briefing for congressional leaders, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) voiced doubts about the veracity of the intelligence, according to officials present.
“evening. “These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. The election ended a long time ago in one of the biggest Electoral College victories in history. It’s now time to move on and ‘Make America Great Again,’ ” the statement read.
“Trump has consistently dismissed the intelligence community’s findings about Russian hacking. . .”
Anita Kumar, McClatchy: “Obama is rushing to Trump-proof the White House”
Rome burns . . .
“WASHINGTON Since Election Day, President Barack Obama has appointed 56 people to boards, commissions and offices in the hopes that they remain in those posts for years to come.
“He has reduced the prison sentences of 79 federal inmates. He has handed out the nation’s highest civilian honor to 21 people who he said personally made an impact on his life.
“And he has churned out rules, regulations and policies several times a week.
“Obama is trying to put the people and policies in place that he wants to outlast his presidency in the final weeks before Donald Trump takes over. And his supporters want more, way more.
“Every president tries to push through last-minute policies before their time in office comes to a close. But this year has a more frantic feel as special interest groups push Obama to do more, not just because the president-elect is of a different party but because few people know what he will do.
“People are, as you can imagine, they are getting quite desperate,” said Rena Steinzor, a member of the Center for Progressive Reform, a liberal advocacy group, who is pressing Obama to act. “Filling boards and doing whatever he can to establish protections that Trump would have to unwind is a good strategy.”
“With six weeks remaining, their to-do list for Obama is long:
“They want him to issue an executive order requiring federal contractors to disclose their political donations. They want him to pardon immigrants in the country illegally and direct federal employees to quickly process applications for immigrants who came into the United States illegally as children. And they want him to make good on his campaign pledge to close the prison for suspected terrorists at Guantánamo Bay. . .”
National Review: “Geert Wilders Has Something to Say”
“A month ago, the Dutch politician Geert Wilders was considered likely to become the country’s next prime minister. On Friday, he was convicted on hate-speech charges — and became slightly more likely to become the president’s next prime minister.
“Wilders is a longtime fixture in the European circles described in the American press with fear and loathing as ‘far right.’ He and his party wish to reduce immigration, especially the immigration of Muslims from Morocco and the Middle East; they want the Netherlands to maintain its national character, which is secular and liberal, and lament the ‘Islamization’ of their society; he is allied with Marine Le Pen in European affairs but also has worked to distance his Freedom party from what he calls ‘right-wing extremist and racist’ parties, such as the anti-immigrant parties in Germany and Hungary that share some of his views.
“He has adopted the slogan ‘Make the Netherlands Great Again,’ for some indication of his substance and style.
“Wilders was convicted of inciting discrimination and giving group offense, two ‘crimes’ that are observed in much of Europe but that are not properly the stuff of criminal offenses in a country with free speech. While it is worth keeping in mind that Wilders isn’t a consistent defender of the free-speech rights he complains are being here violated — he has advocated banning both the Koran and the building of new mosques in the Netherlands — the laws he has been convicted of violating are absurd and have no place in a civilized, liberal society such as the Netherlands. They are an example of what happens when what we call political correctness is allowed to harden into an unchallengeable orthodoxy and given the power of law. And we ought to keep in mind that our own so-called liberals are eager to enact such ‘hate speech’ laws, and to use them to suppress political ideas they find unpalatable. . .”
Rushbo: “Trump Was Right about Boeing”
“RUSH: You know the contretemps, the controversy that erupted earlier this week when Trump tweeted out that $4 billion was just too much to pay for a new Air Force One — actually two of them, so let’s be accurate. Two new editions of Air Force One, 747-8s. The biggest 747 Boeing makes. They’re not selling well, by the way. They’ve had to reduce production. And we went into a long, drawn-out discussion of what Trump could be up to. The history of Boeing and their relationship to the Iranian nuke deal, the fact they donated to Republicans and that’s why the Republicans didn’t stop Obama doing the nuke deal, because Boeing wanted the sanctions lifted so they could sell new aircraft to Iran for their national airline.
“And then the ChiComs are involved because Boeing makes a lot of aircraft for the ChiComs; even have a factory there. And so the Drive-Bys and the media and the know-it-alls, the know-it-alls, the experts in nothing in the Drive-By Media immediately started making fun of Trump, saying he was lying and making it up, there’s no way two Boeing 747s cost $4 billion. I went to my little tech blogs and found the same ignorance and idiocy making fun of Trump, he can’t possibly be this stupid, what a dummkopf, what an idiot that we’ve elected, and they started looking at the retail price for a Boeing 747 if, say, Japan Air was gonna buy one.
“Do you know what this 747 is? You know the way to understand Air Force One, it’s not a 747. That’s just the shell that it’s in. There isn’t an airplane like this. This airplane will withstand the radiation from a nuclear blast. This airplane can stay in the air indefinitely as long as there are tankers around. This airplane has communications devices and defense mechanisms and shielding devices, technology for communications that nobody even knows exists.
“It has a full-fledged medical operating room on board should there not be any nearby and the president needs surgery. The idea that two of these planes might cost $4 billion is entirely reasonable. The only thing about this Air Force One that makes it look like a 747 is that that’s what the shell of the device looks like. It happens to be the largest, which is what’s needed, domestic aircraft made. . .”
Lloyd Grove, Daily Beast: “Washington Post on the ‘Fake News’ Hot Seat”
“At least one of the websites blamed in a story for supposedly circulating Russian propaganda is threatening to sue the storied newspaper.
“The story, by Post technology reporter Craig Timberg and published Nov. 24, purported to reveal how ‘sophisticated’ Russian propagandists had spread fake news through hundreds of web sites to destabilize American democracy, thwart Hillary Clinton and elect Donald Trump to the White House.
“So far the story—which has attracted millions of page views and more than 14,000 comments—has provoked lawsuit threats from at least two of the web sites, notably the widely respected financial blog Naked Capitalism, which fired off a legal letter demanding a retraction and apology even though the Post story does not specifically mention Naked Capitalism or any of the other allegedly Russian-influenced websites.
The Horn: “Hillary’s revenge starts Dec. 15th”
“. . . That’s right; Hillary Clinton is considering another run for president four years from now, at the age of 73!
“But critics says that announcement may just be a smoke screen
“For once, Hillary may be doing something that doesn’t benefit her own political career — she’s trying to convince her top donors to shift their money to her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, the Clinton’s cartel’s ace-in-the-hole.
“A source close to the Clintons told The New York Post that ‘the Clintons need some time to regroup after Hillary’s crushing loss,’ but ‘they will not give up.’
“‘Chelsea would be the next extension of the Clinton brand,’ the Clinton insider said.
The plan is for Chelsea Clinton to run for Congress, maybe as early as 2018.
“Chelsea will run for the seat of Rep. Nita Lowey, a 79-year-old far-left Democrat from New York, when Lowey retires.
“Lowey’s district has two advantages: It’s a Democratic safe seat. Chelsea is unlikely to run into any serious competition there. And Lowey represents the city of Chappaqua, where the Clintons have a home. Chelsea doesn’t live there – she lives in Manhattan with husband Marc Mezvinsky – but that’s no problem for the Clintons. After all, Hillary didn’t live in New York before becoming its U.S. senator.
So, the plan is to put Lowey out to pasture and install Chelsea in her place.
“So far, Chelsea has made a comfortable living by cashing in on her family name and access to power, and has been groomed for years by her power hungry parents.
Chelsea Clinton is vice chair of the ethically challenged Clinton Foundation, where she has taken a special interest in its fundraising operations. Coincidentally, she has an estimated net worth of $15 million and owns a $10.5 million apartment overlooking New York City’s Madison Square Park.
“And like her parents, Chelsea’s media connections run deep. For example, in 2011 NBC News paid her $600,000 as a special correspondent, although she had no experience in journalism – or, as far as we could tell, any talent, either.
“Chelsea only faces one major problem: Lowey is not stepping aside quietly. She says she has no plans to retire, Chelsea’s future plans be damned. . .”
