Janet: Heritage Action
Heritage is asking its Sentinels to call our Congressional Reps over this recess, which ends January 3, to ask them to have an Obamacare repeal bill ready for Trump to sign after inauguration.
Republicans must now honor their campaign promises and use a budget process that is most likely to repeal Obamacare, the legislation that
- did not allow us to keep our doctors
- did not reduce premiums (PA will see 30-39% premium hikes)
- intruded into doctor-patient decisions
- saw major insurance companies suffer unsustainable losses in the exchanges
- forced us to buy coverages we did not need nor want, like abortion inducing drugs.
Please contact Reps. Meehan and Costello, and Senator Toomey, BEFORE January 3, at links below.
Tell them simply that
Congress must pass and have on Mr. Trump’s desk, after Inauguration, a fiscal year 2017 budget bill that Fully repeals Obamacare, with the ‘reconciliation’ language that allows the bill to pass with simple majorities in both Houses. After repeal, Congress can begin the work of replacing Obamacare with options that are truly affordable and that move our healthcare away from federal control and back to us and our doctors.

Susan Miller, USA Today: “Reports of mall disturbances light up social media”
Probably organized and amplified with cell phones – teen mobs and college students build hubs of identical thoughts and actions. Good for military platoons! Bad for voters! Bad for riots . . . Raise the voting age to 26 . . .
“A flurry of reports of mall melees and disturbances rippled across social media Monday on a day Americans swarmed shopping hubs for post-holiday bargains.
Disturbances that led to some malls being evacuated included reports from Elizabeth, N.J.; Fayetteville, N.C.; East Garden City, N.Y.; Aurora, Colo.; Tempe, Ariz.; Beachwood Place, a suburb of Cleveland; and Memphis.
“About 10 people were injured during a melee at the Jersey Gardens mall in Elizabeth on Sunday evening, Mayor Chris Bollwage said in a tweet.
“The injuries were non-life-threatening, Bollwage said. A fight in the food court led to false reports of a shooting after a chair was thrown and hit the ground loudly, officials said.
“Posts on social media showed police with guns responding to the food court. Police evacuated the building as a precaution, and hours later there were still long lines waiting for NJ Transit buses as it began to rain. . .”
Tyler Durden, Zerohedge: “Obama Quietly Signs ‘The Countering Disinformation and Propaganda Act’ Into Law”
“Portman-Murphy Bill Promotes Coordinated Strategy to Defend America, Allies Against Propaganda and Disinformation from Russia, China & Others
“U.S. Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) today announced that their Countering Disinformation and Propaganda Act – legislation designed to help American allies counter foreign government propaganda from Russia, China, and other nations – has been signed into law as part of the FY 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Report. The bipartisan bill, which was introduced by Senators Portman and Murphy in March, will improve the ability of the United States to counter foreign propaganda and disinformation from our enemies by establishing an interagency center housed at the State Department to coordinate and synchronize counter-propaganda efforts throughout the U.S. government. To support these efforts, the bill also creates a grant program for NGOs, think tanks, civil society and other experts outside government who are engaged in counter-propaganda related work. This will better leverage existing expertise and empower our allies overseas to defend themselves from foreign manipulation. It will also help foster a free and vibrant press and civil society overseas, which is critical to ensuring our allies have access to truthful information and inoculating people against foreign propaganda campaigns.
“Our enemies are using foreign propaganda and disinformation against us and our allies, and so far the U.S. government has been asleep at the wheel,” Portman said. “But today, the United States has taken a critical step towards confronting the extensive, and destabilizing, foreign propaganda and disinformation operations being waged against us by our enemies overseas. With this bill now law, we are finally signaling that enough is enough; the United States will no longer sit on the sidelines. We are going to confront this threat head-on. I am confident that, with the help of this bipartisan bill, the disinformation and propaganda used against us, our allies, and our interests will fail.”
Victor Davis Hanson, NRO: “The Ancient Foreign Policy”
“. . . It would be nice if the international order had safe spaces, prohibitions against micro-aggressions, and trigger warnings that warn of hurtful speech, but is the world really one big Harvard or Stanford that runs on loud assertions of sensitivity, guilt, apologies, or even the cynical progressive pieties found in WikiLeaks?
“The tempo abroad in the last eight years would suggest that the answer is no: half a million dead in Syria, over a million young Muslim men flooding into Europe, an Iraq in ruins (though Biden once bragged it would be the Obama administration’s ‘greatest achievement’), the Benghazi catastrophe, North Africa a wasteland and terrorist incubator, Israel and the Gulf states estranged from America, Iran empowered and soon to be nuclear, Russia hell-bent on humiliating the U.S., China quietly forming its own updated Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, an impoverished Cuba and much of Latin America gnawing the limp wrist of U.S. outreach, and the European Union gradually imploding.
“Obama’s lead-from-behind foreign policy has becoming something like the seduction of an old house. Its wiring, plumbing, and foundation are shot, but the majestic structure, when given a thin coat of new paint by the seller, proudly goes on the market as ‘restored’ — at least until the new buyer discovers that the Potemkin façade is about to collapse from lax maintenance and deliberate indifference. . .”
Thomas Sowell, WND: “MY FAREWELL COLUMN”
“Thomas Sowell looks back at quarter century of writing syndicated commentary
“Most people living in officially defined poverty in the 21st century have things like cable television, microwave ovens and air-conditioning. Most Americans did not have such things, as late as the 1980s. People whom the intelligentsia continue to call the “have-nots” today have things that the “haves” did not have, just a generation ago.
“In some other ways, however, there have been some serious retrogressions over the years. Politics, and especially citizens’ trust in their government, has gone way downhill.
“Back in 1962, President John F. Kennedy, a man narrowly elected just two years earlier, came on television to tell the nation that he was taking us to the brink of nuclear war with the Soviet Union, because the Soviets had secretly built bases for nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from America.
“Most of us did not question what he did. He was president of the United States, and he knew things the rest of us couldn’t know – and that was good enough for us. Fortunately, the Soviets backed down. But could any president today do anything like that and have the American people behind him?
“Years of lying presidents – Democrat Lyndon Johnson and Republican Richard Nixon, especially – destroyed not only their own credibility, but the credibility which the office itself once conferred. The loss of that credibility was a loss to the country, not just to the people holding that office in later years.
“With all the advances of blacks over the years, nothing so brought home to me the social degeneration in black ghettos like a visit to a Harlem high school some years ago.
“When I looked out the window at the park across the street, I mentioned that, as a child, I used to walk my dog in that park. Looks of horror came over the students’ faces, at the thought of a kid going into the hell hole that park had become in their time.
“When I have mentioned sleeping out on a fire escape in Harlem during hot summer nights, before most people could afford air-conditioning, young people have looked at me like I was a man from Mars. But blacks and whites alike had been sleeping out on fire escapes in New York since the 19th century. They did not have to contend with gunshots flying around during the night.
“We cannot return to the past, even if we wanted to, but let us hope that we can learn something from the past to make for a better present and future.
“Goodbye and good luck to all.”
Times of Israel: “Iran plans navy upgrade, including building aircraft carrier”
“Announcement follows Rouhani’s earlier statement that country will build nuclear-powered ships and submarines
“‘Building an aircraft carrier is also among the goals pursued by the navy and we hope to attain this objective,’ Deputy Navy Commander for Coordination Admiral Peiman Jafari Tehrani was quoted as saying by Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency.
“Tehrani also said the Iranian defense ministry and navy are “producing different types of missiles indigenously.”
“Iranian Navy Commander Habibollah Sayyari first declared in 2014 that Iran was able to construct aircraft carriers as well as high-tech submarines.
“As we have managed to produce warships and submarines, we also have the capability to build aircraft carriers and heavy submarines,” Fars quoted Sayyari as saying at the time.
“Iran often boasts of advances in its military capabilities, although many of these developments cannot be confirmed by sources outside of Iran . . .”
BEN SHAPIRO, NRO: “Obama Despises Israel Because He Despises the West”
“A religious leftist, he breaks down Bible believers into two categories: fools and liars.
“Barack Obama has done his best for nearly eight years to undermine the state of Israel. He’s signed a treaty that enshrines an Iranian path to a nuclear weapon while funding their global terrorist activities to the tune of tens of billions of dollars. He’s repeatedly undercut Israel’s image on the world stage, labeling Israel a mere outgrowth of the Holocaust and suggesting that Israeli intransigence stands as the chief obstacle to peace. He’s ushered Benjamin Netanyahu out the side door of the White House, attempted to undercut the prime minister’s speech before Congress, and then deployed an election team to Israel to try to defeat him in an election. Obama has tried to cut weapons shipments to Israel in the middle of a war against terrorists, forced Israel to apologize for stopping weapons shipments to Hamas terrorists, and funded the Palestinian terrorist unity government with American taxpayer dollars.
“Nonetheless, Israel has survived.
“Actually, Israel has thrived.
“It’s thrived, in part, because Obama’s absolute incompetence has created an alliance of convenience between Israel and its erstwhile enemies. Saudi Arabia is more fearful of a nuclear Iran than of Israel; Egypt worries more about the Muslim Brotherhood than about Israel; Jordan frets over the Palestinians more than it does over Israel. Even the Palestinian Authority is more concerned about Hamas and ISIS than about Israel.
“That means that there’s been very little pressure on Israel to make concessions to Palestinian terrorists in recent years.
“Obama’s animus for the state of Israel stretches beyond the typical internationalist leftist view of Israel as a colonialist outpost, a cancer growing in the heart of the Muslim Middle East. Most internationalist leftists think that Israel is the cause of Muslim ire, that if Israel were to disappear, suddenly the Muslim lands surrounding it would view the rest of the world with fresh, dewy eyes. This is the same general philosophy that blames the West for the problem of Islamic violence, that suggests that income maldistribution breeds discontent that in turn breeds terrorism.
“Obama may think that, but that’s not what drives him.
“Something deeper drives Obama when it comes to Israel. Why else would he spend the last few weeks of his presidency throwing gasoline on Israel and then lighting a match? . . .”
WSJ: “Obama’s Anti-Israel Tantrum”
“The U.N. resolution is a defining act of Obama’s Presidency.
“The decision by the United States to abstain from a United Nations Security Council resolution condemning Israel over its settlements on the West Bank is one of the most significant, defining moments of the Obama Presidency.
“It defines this President’s extraordinary ability to transform matters of public policy into personal pique at adversaries. And it defines the reality of the international left’s implacable opposition to the Israeli state.
“Earlier in the week, Egypt withdrew the Security Council resolution under pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. President-elect Donald Trump also intervened, speaking with Egypt’s government and, via Twitter, urging Mr. Obama to block the resolution, as have past U.S. Administrations and Mr. Obama himself in 2011.
“As was widely reported Friday after the U.N. vote, the White House decided to abstain—thereby allowing the pro-Palestinian resolution to pass—in retaliation against the intervention by Messrs. Netanyahu and Trump.
“Mr. Obama’s animus toward Prime Minister Netanyahu is well known. Apparently Mr. Obama took it as an affront that the President-elect would express an opinion about this week’s U.N. resolution.
“It is important, though, to see this U.S. abstention as more significant than merely Mr. Obama’s petulance. What it reveals clearly is the Obama Administration’s animus against the state of Israel itself. No longer needing Jewish votes, Mr. Obama was free, finally, to punish the Jewish state in a way no previous President has done.
“No effort to rescind the resolution, which calls the settlements a violation of ‘international law,’ will succeed because of Russia’s and China’s vetoes.
“Instead, the resolution will live on as Barack Obama’s cat’s paw, offering support in every European capital, international institution and U.S. university campus to bully Israel with the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. . .”
AP, Philly.com: “Pennsylvania’s highest-in-nation gas tax going up again”
“SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) – The price to fill ‘er up is going up again in Pennsylvania.
“Starting Sunday, the nation’s highest gas tax will increase by another 8 cents per gallon.
“Drivers will pay about 78 cents per gallon in tax, up from just under 70 cents this year. The state’s wholesale gas tax funds road construction and infrastructure maintenance.
“Gas stations will almost certainly pass the increase to motorists, Patrick DeHaan, a petroleum analyst with fuel monitoring firm GasBuddy.com, told The Times-Tribune of Scranton.
“Pennsylvania has the nation’s fifth-largest road network, with more road miles than New York, New Jersey and all the New England states combined, according to James May, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.
“He said PennDOT has fixed thousands of structurally deficient bridges and boosted road construction spending by about $1 billion, paving the way for about 25,000 new construction jobs. . .”
Mark Levin (12/27/16)
“On Tuesday’s Mark Levin show, Katie Pavlich, Fox News Contributor and Editor of Townhall fills [sic!] in for Mark. President Obama is denying reports that he and his Administration had anything to do with the UN resolution demanding Israel give up the West Bank and other territory. Obama took this issue up directly with UN Security Council despite claiming he and his administration didn’t. Obama and his administration had a lot to do with it and will get caught in their lies.
“In addition, the U.S. abstained from vetoing the UN resolution and has failed to protect Israel as it has traditionally done. Israel’s borders are necessary to keeping their national security.
“After that, the Obama coalition in 2012 was not willing to come out for Hillary in 2016. People were tired of Obama’s legacy and wanted a change. Democrats have lost 1, 030 seats since 2009 and have been devastated in elections on the state and national levels. They have a long way to go to rebuild their party.
“Later, Obama has appointed Debo Adegbile to a six year post on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Adegbile defended Mumia Abdul-Jamal who murdered police officer Daniel Faulkner in 1981. Adegbile’s appointment will further solidify President Obama’s anti police record and position.”
Avner Zarmi, PJM: “What Is Channukka?”
“. . . In the west, one frequently encounters attempts to universalize Channukka as being about “religious freedom”; in Israel, where the pressures of the surrounding culture don’t exist, the words “You delivered the strong into the hands of the weak, the many into the hands of the few” are often extracted from the ‘al Hanissim and used to launch inapt, if understandable, comparisons with the 1948 War of Independence or even the Six-Day War of 1967, focusing on the amazing military victories while ignoring the issues over which the war was fought or the reason why the holiday was established in the first place.
“So what, actually, is Channukka?
“The basic observance is simple enough. Today, the common practice is to light one light (preferably olive oil) for each of the eight nights, such that on the first night a single light is burning, and on the eighth eight lights are burning (plus the candle used to light the actual Channukka lights). The kindling of the lights is generally accompanied by the song Ma’oz Tzur. Three times a day over the eight days, the ‘al Hanissim prayer is recited, added to the rest of the daily services. It is customary also to give small gifts to children, and during the course of the holiday to eat things fried in oil: In homes of people with European backgrounds, this is the humble potato pancake, called a latke in Yiddish; in the Middle East, it is the delicious jelly donuts available on every street corner in Israel during the season, called sufganiyot.
“And that’s basically it.
“This is a translation of the language of the ‘al Hanissim:
“For the miracles, and for the salvation, and for the mighty deeds, and for the deliverances, and for the wars which You fought for our fathers in those days at this time.
In the days of Mattithyahu ben Yochanan, high priest, Chashmona’i, and his sons, when the evil kingdom of Greece rose against Your people, Israel, to make them forget Your Torah, and to divert them from the laws of Your will, and You in Your great mercy stood up for them in the time of their woe; You took up their grievance, judged their claim, and avenged their wrong.
“You delivered the strong into the hands of the weak, the many into the hands of the few, the impure into the hands of the pure, the evil into the hands of the righteous, and scoffers into the hands of those engaged in Your Torah. And You made a great and holy name for Yourself in Your world, and for Your people Israel You made great deliverance and salvation as this very day, and afterwards your sons came to the precinct of Your house, and cleared Your Temple, purified Your holy site, and kindled lights in the courtyards of Your Sanctuary, and established these eight days of Dedication [Channukka] to express thanks and praise to Your great Name.”
