Charles C.W. Cooke, NRO: “Constitutional Carry Marches On”

“Its popularity keeps spreading inexorably across the country.

“And so the train keeps rolling on. For years, advocates of the Second Amendment have fought tooth and nail to ensure that no American was left without the right to obtain a carry permit. Now an even more salutary standard has become fashionable: The abolition of the permitting system in its entirety. In 2015, three states added their names to the growing list of those that have adopted “constitutional carry” — states, that is, in which Americans do not need to obtain permits before legally carrying guns. Last year, another three joined their ranks. This year, the number joining could be as high as five. And after that? Le déluge.
“Over at the Crime Research Prevention Center, John Lott Jr. notes that the number of “constitutional carry” states will reach 16 or 17 by the end of this year. Given that 15 years ago there was only one (two if you count Montana, which I’d classify as a “mostly constitutional carry” state) — and that 30 years ago most states had extremely restrictive permitting processes to boot — this is nothing short of remarkable. Elections, as it is said, have consequences.

“Lott writes: With Missouri, West Virginia, and Idaho enacting Constitutional Carry laws last year, twelve states allow people to carry without a permit in all or virtually all their states. This includes Montana that allows people to carry in about 99.4% of the state. And 2017 is shaping up as a banner year for passing more of these laws. States that are about to pass these laws include: Indiana, Kentucky, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Tennessee is considering allowing “open carry” without a permit, though that is already quite common in most states. Other states that are considering this legislation, but are unlikely to pass Constitutional Carry, include: Colorado (won’t pass legislature and would be vetoed by governor), Minnesota (Governor would veto), Texas (unlikely to get out of the state legislature), and Utah (Governor would likely veto again). . .”

Also – PA FOA: “Open Carry in Pennsylvania

“To summarize, open carry is legal in Pennsylvania without a License To Carry Firearms except in “cities of the first class” (Philadelphia) and vehicles where a License To Carry Firearms is required to do so.”

Rushbo: “President Trump Freezes Federal Hiring”

“. . . RUSH: So Trump there signs an executive order freezing federal hiring. That’s just the beginning. After the freeze on hiring is going to come the whittling of the federal employee workforce. Trump also signed a notice that starts the process of withdrawing from the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal. But the freeze on federal hiring excludes national security and military people, but it’s part of the Trump 100-day Action Plan to Make America Great Again.

“And there’s a story here at the Politico: ‘Revenge of the Bureaucrats — Federal workers fume over Trump’s vow to freeze hiring and shrink the government.’ Many of them say they’re gonna quit. They’re gonna quit in protest. ‘Twenty-eight percent of federal employees may quit their jobs when Trump assumes office.’ I doubt that that’s happened yet. It’s all just a bunch of words. But they may not have any choice in the matter.”

David Savage, LA Times: “Conservative Colorado judge emerges as a top contender to fill Scalia’s Supreme Court seat”

“Judge Neil M. Gorsuch, a highly regarded conservative jurist best known for upholding religious liberty rights in the legal battles over Obamacare, has emerged as a leading contender for President Trump’s first Supreme Court nomination.

“Gorsuch, 49, was among 21 potential high court candidates circulated by Trump’s team during the campaign, but his stock has been rising lately as several admirers and supporters have been named to positions in the Trump administration.

“He currently serves on the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. A former clerk for Justice Byron White, also a Colorado native, and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, he served in the George W. Bush administration’s Justice Department.

“In Gorsuch, supporters see a jurist who has strong academic credentials, a gift for clear writing and a devotion to deciding cases based on the original meaning of the Constitution and the text of statutes, as did the late Justice Antonin Scalia. . .”

Daniel Halper, NY Post: “Conway gets Secret Service protection due to death threats

“President Trump’s adviser Kellyanne Conway is receiving Secret Service protection after receiving suspicious “white substances” at her home, she revealed in a TV interview.

“The White House counselor — Trump’s most visible adviser — is being protected by the same agency tasked with his security after receiving the threats, Conway told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

“‘Because of what the press is doing now to me, I have Secret Service protection,’ she said. ‘We have packages delivered to my house with white substances. That is a shame.’

“While Conway’s Secret Service detail is unusual, it is not without precedent.

“Barack Obama’s closest adviser, Valerie Jarrett, also was protected by the agency. . .”

Rebecca Traister, NY Mag: “The Future of the Left Is Female”

Women have always been collectivists . . . it’s a genetic thing  . . . for the children, funded by an old man, George Soros . . .and all magnified by cellphones!

“Women’s rights are human rights, and women leaders are progressive leaders.

“A lot of people predicted that women were going to change America’s political history in January of 2017. But pretty much no one anticipated that they’d be doing it as leaders of the resistance. On Saturday, millions of women and men — organized largely by young women of color — staged the largest one-day demonstration in political history, a show of international solidarity that let the world know that women will be heading up the opposition to Donald Trump and the white patriarchal order he represents. Women — and again, especially women of color, always progressivism’s most reliable and least recognized warriors, the women who did the most to stop the rise of Trump — were the ones taking progressive politics into the future.

“The Women’s March, dreamed up by a couple of women with no organizing experience in the feverish, grief-addled hours after Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, and then organized by an expanded team in the span of about ten weeks, was an earth-shaking triumph.

“According to early reports, it drew somewhere north of 680,000 to Washington, D.C., 750,000 to Los Angeles, 400,000 to New York City, 250,000 to Chicago, 100,000 each to Seattle, Denver, San Francisco, the Twin Cities, and Portland Oregon; and crowds of thousands to smaller cities, including 11,000 to Ann Arbor, 5,000 to Lexington, Kentucky, 8,000 to Honolulu, and 20,000 to Houston. There were 2,000 protesters in Anchorage, Alaska, and 1,000 in Jackson, Mississippi. Demonstrations took place on all seven continents, including Antarctica.. .”

Victor Davis Hanson, NRO: “Prosperity Is Destiny”

All through our history as a species, the swap has always been sex for food! See David Buss (1994), “The Evolution of Desire.”

When Ronald Reagan entered office in 1981 amid negative economic growth, roaring inflation, and high unemployment, his critics immediately grew emboldened and sought to ankle-bite him at every turn: Reagan purportedly had created homelessness all by himself; Reagan was on the verge of ensuring a ‘nuclear winter’ and a ‘day after’ desolation from a likely nuclear exchange, given his nihilistic tough stance against the Soviet Union.
“After dismantling the air-traffic controllers’ union, Reagan had supposedly endangered the lives of plane passengers and ruined the idea of unionism itself, replacing it with ‘let them eat cake’ indifference.
“Yet four years later — with an economy booming at over 7 percent per year — Reagan breezed to reelection victory. It was suddenly ‘Morning in America.’ His 1984 election opponent, a decent and respected Walter Mondale, was reduced to a cardboard-cutout caricature of fossilized 1960s liberalism. . .”

Fox News: “Trump-Union Leaders Meeting Was ‘Great Act of Political Larceny’”

“Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer said President Trump’s meeting with several union leaders was a “great act of political larceny” to the Democrats’ detriment.

“Trump met with Laborers’ boss Terry O’Sullivan, Building Trade Union head Sean McGarvey, Carpenters’ Union president Mark McManus and other leaders in the Oval Office.

Afterward, the union leaders assembled outside the White House to issue a brief statement to the press.

“Krauthammer called Trump’s first business day in office “very organized and disciplined.”

“That scene of him with union leaders was a great act of political larceny,’ Krauthammer said, noting that union workers were a major Democratic constituency that he [sic!] ‘stole’ in order to get elected in 2016.

“‘As long as he nurtures [the relationship with unions], he has a leg up on the Democrats,’ he said.”

Timothy Cama, The Hill: “Trump takes action to move forward with Keystone, Dakota Access pipelines”

“President Trump on Tuesday moved two controversial pipeline projects forward by signing a pair of executive actions that would allow permitting for the Keystone XL and Dakota Access projects.

“In an Oval Office ceremony with several of his aides looking on, Trump said the actions would create new jobs in the United States, and that the pipelines would be built with U.S. steel and U.S. labor.

“‘We will build our own pipeline, we will build our own pipes, like we used to, in the old days,’ Trump said as he held up one of his actions to television cameras brought into the Oval Office to broadcast the event.

“The actions are a sharp turn from the Obama administration’s policies, as the former president had rejected the Keystone pipeline and delayed Dakota Access.

“Tuesday’s actions will not force the approval of either project, and Trump said he wanted to renegotiate terms with the pipelines’ developers. Those terms may include some way for the United States government to get a financial return from Keystone, a possibility he mentioned on the campaign trail.. .”

Peter Baker, NYT: “Trump Abandons Trans-Pacific Partnership, Obama’s Signature Trade Deal”

“WASHINGTON — President Trump upended America’s traditional, bipartisan trade policy on Monday as he formally abandoned the ambitious, 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership brokered by his predecessor and declared an end to the era of multinational trade agreements that defined global economics for decades.

“With the stroke of a pen on his first full weekday in office, Mr. Trump signaled that he plans to follow through on promises to take a more aggressive stance against foreign competitors as part of his “America First” approach. In doing so, he demonstrated that he would not follow old rules, effectively discarding longstanding Republican orthodoxy that expanding global trade was good for the world and America — and that the United States should help write the rules of international commerce.

“Although the Trans-Pacific Partnership had not been approved by Congress, Mr. Trump’s decision to withdraw not only doomed former President Barack Obama’s signature trade achievement, but also carried broad geopolitical implications in a fast-growing region. The deal, which was to link a dozen nations from Canada and Chile to Australia and Japan in a complex web of trade rules, was sold as a way to permanently tie the United States to East Asia and create an economic bulwark against a rising China. . .”

Joel Pollak, Breitbart: “Report: Obama Gave $221 Million to Palestinians in Last Hours”

“ . . . This was not the first time Obama had granted funding to the Palestinian Authority despite Congress’s wishes. In 2012, for example, he unblocked nearly $200 million that had been frozen in response to Palestinians’ unilateral actions at the United Nations, using a legal waiver included in the Palestinian Accountability Act.

“Republicans have increasingly called for blocking or canceling funding to the Palestinian Authority, not only because of unilateral diplomatic moves toward statehood, but also because of increasing evidence that funds are used to incite violence and provide financial rewards to terrorists.

“The Palestinian Authority reportedly provides compensation to the families of terrorist prisoners incarcerated in Israeli prisons, as well as to those who have killed themselves in attacks on Israeli civilians. The total amount allocated by the Palestinian Authority budget for “the Care for the Families of the Martyrs” was reportedly about $175 million in 2016, and an additional $140 million was reportedly allocated for payments to prisoners and former prisoners. . .”

Mac Slavo, SHTF Plan: “Report: Obama Issued a Massive Ammunition Ban Just One Day before He Left Office”

“U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe, an Obama appointee, ordered a new ammunition ban for certain federal lands on Thursday–his last full day in office.

“The ban, which took effect immediately, eliminates the use of lead-based ammunition on federal lands like national parks and wildlife refuges, as well as any other land administered by the Fish and Wildlife Service. The ban is expected to have a major impact on much of the hunting that takes place on federal lands across the United States as lead-based ammunition is widely legal and used throughout the country.

“Ashe said the order was necessary to protect wildlife from exposure to lead. . .”

Susan Berry, Breitbart: “Five Facts About Trump’s Reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy on Abortion”

“President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday that reinstated what is known as the “Mexico City Policy” regarding U.S. aid for abortions overseas.

“Here’s five facts about the policy, the text of which can be found here:

  1. The “Mexico City Policy” prohibits non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that receive U.S. funds – including International Planned Parenthood – from providing or promoting abortions, as a method of family planning, overseas. The policy also bans these organizations from advocating for the passage of pro-abortion laws in other countries.
  2. President Trump has updated the policy by directing the Secretary of State to implement a plan that expands the policy across all global health assistance funding. This means that U.S. taxpayer dollars will not be supporting organizations that promote or participate in the management of a coercive abortion program. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), for example, is one such organization, with its long history of supporting China’s one-child population control program, an agenda that has included forced abortions.
  3. The Mexico City Policy does not reduce U.S. foreign assistance; however, it does ensure that those who partner with the United States in providing international aid act to safeguard that abortion is not performed or promoted.
  4. The policy does not prevent U.S. aid from being used for birth control and family planning services overseas – only abortion and its promotion are not subsidized.
  5. The Mexico City Policy is a memorandum that was first issued by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 at the United Nations population conference, held in Mexico City. It has been reinstituted by every Republican president via executive order since Ronald Reagan, but rescinded by Democrat presidents.

“Family Research Council (FRC) provides further details about the history of the Mexico City Policy . . .”

Joanne – Property Tax Elimination?

“Property Tax Elimination Bill – A Major Threat to Pennsylvania’s Public Schools*

“A Property Tax Elimination Bill that would likely devastate Pennsylvania’s public schools is expected to be introduced in the upcoming PA legislative session.

In lieu of property taxes, this bill would fund PA’s schools by an increase and expansion of the sales tax (6% to 7%) and a 61% increase of the Personal Income Tax (from 3.07% to 4.95%).
“Districts would be forbidden to collect school property taxes except to pay off school district debt.   Any school district seeking to spend above the allotment from the state would have to ask the voters for their support in a referendum.

“Monies to fund schools would be distributed from the State Treasury, which means that local control and the funding authority of school boards would be decimated.

“Nearly $2 Billion in tax burdens would shift from businesses to individuals. Link

“For years, proponents have been relentless in attempting to eliminate property taxes for school funding. Forms of this bill (which has bipartisan support) have been voted upon by the PA legislature in the past; in November of 2015, SB76 failed in the PA Senate by only one vote!   It is essential that we speak out NOW to STOP it before it gains a foothold in the PA legislature for this session.”

James Brody: Trump’s Template

I believe that inheritance becomes less flexible as we age. We now have a President who built  hotels and now uses those same skills to recruit union members away from the Democrats. He  will urge fresh cement and routes for our Interstate system, one that was constructed under Eisenhower for the purpose of moving tanks and troops to defeat foreign invaders. Will the Chinese eventually drive on the cement that Trump arranges? And will Trump have a hotel at every exit? And instead of bringing American-grown produce to the Chinese, it might be simpler for Alibaba’s Jack Ma to bring Chinese to eat our veggies and defeat Islam. Meanwhile, Rome burned despite her legions. . .

James Brody: Jury Duty?

Chris Stogall (1210WPHT, 01-24-17) sat through several hours of questions. He answered that he voted for Trump. Excused!

Makes sense – high-verbal critters are more apt to be leftist, a feminine trait! Say “Trump” and you’re probably free!
