Jenny Beth: Health Care

“With Republicans in control of both chambers of Congress, and with President Trump in the White House, our chances of repealing ObamaCare have never been better. But, here’s the catch: We still have work to do this week.

“Senate Republicans have put together a bill to repeal ObamaCare, but the bill leaves in place some of the very same onerous regulations that we have opposed for years! The good news is that Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee have proposed an amendment that would simultaneously provide Americans more choices at substantially lower costs. How does the amendment accomplish all of that? The amendment would allow health insurance companies to sell any healthcare plan, as long as at least one plan would qualify under the Affordable Care Act.

“The Cruz and Lee amendment cuts through the excessive regulations and puts consumer choice front and center.  It’s a simple fix that would have a significantly positive effect for the entire health insurance market, and for American consumers.

Time is of the essence, and our chance to repeal ObamaCare is now. We must act quickly to let every senator know how important the Cruz-Lee amendment is!
Please call both of your U.S. senators every day this week and let them know you want them to support the commonsense and much-needed amendment that will put us on the path to healthcare freedom.

“Call the Capitol switchboard at 202.224.3121 and ask to be transferred to your senators’ offices. Every U.S. senator should hear from us!

“When you call each Senate office, please be sure to make some of the following points:

The Cruz-Lee amendment is exactly what the Senate bill is missing. As your constituent, I am asking you to support this critically important amendment.

“The Cruz-Lee amendment eliminates some of ObamaCare’s worst regulations, and allows insurance companies to provide more of the types of plans that Americans want.

The Cruz-Lee amendment is a commonsense, free-market fix to the Senate bill.

ObamaCare has been in place for more than seven years. It’s time to repeal the law fully and completely. The Cruz-Lee Amendment helps us accomplish that.

“There is no such thing as a free lunch, and the American people understand this. According to polling conducted by the Cato Institute, support for Community Rating drops to just 31 percent when people are asked to consider that Community Rating results in lower quality health care, and it drops to just 25 percent when people are asked to consider that it results in months-long wait times to see a specialist.

“If you have a few more minutes to engage this week, please consider one of the following simple ways of multiplying your impact.

  • After you call your senator, tweet a message about the calland use the senator’s Twitter handle.
  • Write a follow-up email to the office after the call, reiterating the key points and stressing just how important this amendment is. Always be sure to include your mailing address in your email so the office knows you are a constituent.
  • Write a letter and hand-deliver it to a local office in your state. You can also call ahead and ask for an appointment with a policy staffer in one of the local offices.
  • Call each local senate officein your state.

Please email me at jenny.beth@teapartypatriots.org to let me know any feedback you receive from the senators’ offices. I read each of these emails, and your opinions, ideas, and suggestions help shape all of our future calls to action, so please let us know what you are hearing from Capitol Hill!

Kier Simmons & Rachel Elbaum, NBC: “Russian Lawyer Who Met With Trump Jr.: I Didn’t Have Clinton Info They Wanted”

“MOSCOW — The Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. during the presidential campaign denied in an exclusive interview with NBC News that she had any connection to the Kremlin and insisted she met with President Donald Trump’s son in 2016 to discuss sanctions between Russia and the U.S., not to hand over information about Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

“I never had any damaging or sensitive information about Hillary Clinton. It was never my intention to have that,” Natalia Veselnitskaya said.

Her account appeared to contradict that of Trump Jr., who said on Sunday that the premise of the meeting was to discuss damaging information on Clinton that the lawyer was offering. When asked how Trump Jr. seemed to have the impression that she had information about the Democratic National Committee, she responded:

“It is quite possible that maybe they were longing for such an information. They wanted it so badly that they could only hear the thought that they wanted.”

Rebeca Hagelin, Washington Times: “When the government becomes a god”

“‘Kill him,” the judge decreed.’

“‘Yes. And do it at once,’ the tribunal agreed.

“The parents of the convicted begged for mercy.

“‘How dare you question our authority,’ the courts answered. ‘He must die.’

“‘But what is his crime?’ the parents desperately asked.

“‘He is not normal,’ the judge coldly declared. ‘His life is therefore of no value.’

‘Please,’ the mother cried. ‘He is my child, my baby. He is of immense value to me. I treasure every hour, every moment with him. Please, give me my baby and let me search the world for help.’

“‘Please,’ the father begged. ‘He is of immeasurable value to me. I am his daddy. I will fly to the ends of the earth to find help for him. Until his last breath, I will be his protector and helper.’

“But the government courts, the gods of life and death, declared that the baby must die.

“The baby’s crime? He is sick, very sick.

“And he is unable to speak for himself.

“My imaginings of this frightful scene reflect the realities of the battle over 11-month-old Charlie Gard.

“Even as I write this column, Charlie’s mom and dad continue to beg for the life of their son. They are fighting for him as God ordained parents to do. They are cuddling Charlie as they are able, adoring and immersing his tiny body in comforting, warm love.

“Despite the fact that his prospects for a long life are dim, and despite the fact that he will never meet the court’s standards for “normal,” he is loved and cherished by his family. Each hour of his life has value and meaning — not because of what he can or cannot do — but because God said it is so.

“The European courts have the supreme authority to decide the fate of all European citizens partly because of the socialist, government-run health care structure that provides ‘free’ care to all. ‘Free’ care that comes with a noose — a government tribunal deciding who gets to live, and who has an obligation to die.. .”

However, the president’s eldest son also described the meeting as “a nothing,” adding, “I wouldn’t have even remembered it until you started scouring through this stuff. It was literally just a wasted 20 minutes, which was a shame.”

Liz Navratil, Karen Langley & Angela Couloumbis, Philly.com: “Wolf allows $32B Pa. budget to lapse into law”

“HARRISBURG — For the second consecutive year, Gov. Wolf will allow the nearly $32 billion budget that the legislature sent to him to become law, though there is no plan for how to pay for it.

“Monday’s move again plunged the state into uncertainty, with questions swirling around whether the decision was constitutional and whether it will provide more fodder for a crushing credit downgrade.

“For his part, the Democratic governor said he believes that just like last year, the Republican-controlled legislature will swiftly deliver a revenue package to his desk.

“‘In the coming days, it is my hope that the General Assembly will come together to pass a responsible solution to balance our books,’ Wolf said in a statement. ‘There are many options available to balance the budget in the long term, like those I presented earlier this year. Our creditors and the people of Pennsylvania understand a responsible resolution must take real and necessary steps to improve Pennsylvania’s fiscal future.’”

Rand Paul, Big Govt: “Exclusive – Sen. Rand Paul: Senate GOP Decides to Keep Obamacare”

“I miss the old days, when Republicans stood for repealing Obamacare. Republicans across the country and every member of my caucus campaigned on repeal – often declaring they would tear out Obamacare “root and branch!”

“What happened?

“Now too many Republicans are falling all over themselves to stuff hundreds of billions of taxpayers’ dollars into a bill that doesn’t repeal Obamacare and feeds Big Insurance a huge bailout.

“Obamacare regulations? Still here. Taxes? Many still in place, totaling hundreds of billions of dollars.

“Insurance company bailouts? Those, too. Remember when Republicans complained about Obamacare’s risk corridors? Remember when we called the corridors nothing more than insurance company bailouts? I remember when one prominent GOP candidate during a presidential debate explicitly called out the Obamacare risk corridors as a bailout to insurance companies. Does anyone else?

“Now, the Senate GOP plan being put forward is chock full of insurance bailout money – to the tune of nearly $200 billion. Republicans, present company excluded, now support the idea of lowering your insurance premium by giving a subsidy to the insurance company.

Remarkable. If the GOP now supports an insurance stabilization fund to lower insurance prices, maybe they now support a New Car stabilization fund to lower the price of cars. Or maybe the GOP would support an iPhone stabilization fund to lower the price of phones.

The possibilities are limitless once you accept that the federal government should subsidize prices. I remember when Republicans favored the free choice of the marketplace.

The Senate Obamacare bill does not repeal Obamacare. I want to repeat that so everyone realizes why I’ll vote “no” as it stands now:

The Senate Obamacare bill does not repeal Obamacare. Not even close.

In fact, the Senate GOP bill codifies and likely expands many aspects of Obamacare.

The Senate Obamacare-lite bill codifies a federal entitlement to insurance. With the Senate GOP bill, Republicans, for the first time, will signal that they favor a key aspect of Obamacare – federal taxpayer funding of private insurance purchases.

The bill will transfer billions of dollars to people who will then transfer billions of dollars to insurance companies. What a great business model – encourage the federal government to use taxpayer money to buy a private company’s product. Great business model, that is, if you are Big Insurance. Remarkable.

The Senate Obamacare-lite bill does what the Democrats forgot to do – appropriate billions for Obamacare’s cost-sharing reductions, aka subsidies. Really? Republicans are going to fund Obamacare subsidies that the Democrats forgot to fund?

Doesn’t sound much like repeal to me. One might even argue it’s worse than Obamacare-lite because it actually creates a giant superfund to bail out the insurance companies – something even the Democrats feared to do.

I was first elected in the heady days of the Tea Party Tidal Wave, when tens of thousands of citizens gathered on the central city lawn to protest Big Government, Big Debt, and a government takeover of health care.

This citizenry won in four elections. Each time, the GOP establishment told conservatives, “We can’t repeal Obamacare until we have all three branches of government.” Finally, in 2016, that came to pass. Republicans now control all three branches of government.

And . . . the best that is offered is Obamacare-lite: keeping the Obamacare subsidies, keeping some of the Obamacare taxes, creating a giant insurance bailout superfund, and keeping most of the Obamacare regulations. . .”

Tyler Durden, Zero Hedge: “Donald Trump Jr Releases Emails Exchanged Ahead Of Meeting With Russian Lawyer”

“When we discussed the latest sequel in the NYT story involving Donald Trump Jr and the Russian attorney who allegedly, but not really, had damaging information about Hillary Clinton, and who was supposedly working for the Russian government, although both she and the Kremlin deny this, we said that “in short, the situation could be resolved quickly and effectively once the Goldstone’s email is presented.”

“12 hours later Donald Trump Jr has done just this, and moments ago he released the entire email chain from his conversation with Rob Goldstone, as well as the following explanation:

‘To everyone, in order to be totally transparent, I am releasing the entire email chain of my emails with Rob Goldstone about the meeting on June 9, 2016. The first email on June 3, 2016 was from Rob, who was relating a request from Emin, a person I knew from the 2013 Ms. Universe Pageant near Moscow. Emin and his father have a very highly respected company in Moscow. The information they suggested they had about Hillary Clinton I thought was Political Opposition Research.

‘I first wanted to just have a phone call but when that didn’t work out, they said the woman would be in New York and asked if I would meet. I decided to take the meeting. The woman, as she has said publicly, was not a government official. And, as we have said, she had no information to provide and wanted to talk about adoption policy and the Magnitsky Act.

‘To put this in context, this occurred before the current Russian fever was in vogue.

‘As Rob Goldstone said just today in the press, the entire meeting was “the most inane nonsense I ever heard. And I was actually agitated by It.’

Andrew McCarthy, NRO: “Report: Comey Memos Are Government Documents . . . and Some Are Classified”

“Based on “interviews with officials familiar with the documents,” The Hill is reporting that more than half of the memoranda former FBI director James Comey made regarding his conversations with president-elect and then President Trump contain classified information. The FBI, moreover, has determined that all of the memos are government documents.
“This will come as a surprise to no one who has been following this story on National Review. In a column on Comey’s memos a month ago, I explained that there was no doubt the memos were government documents (regardless of the former director’s suggestion that they were his personal property, memorializing his “recollection recorded” of his conversations with the president). I further explained that, while Comey’s judgment that the memos were not classified was entitled to considerable weight, we could not make a conclusive judgment on this because (a) we had not seen them and (b) they had not yet been subjected to “a classification review . . . by the White House or the Justice Department.”
“I was inclined to give Comey the benefit of the doubt on the classification question. If The Hill’s report is accurate, however, a classification review has now happened, and it has been determined that more than half of the memos contain classified information. . .”n

Mark Levin, 07-11-17

“On Tuesday’s Mark Levin show, Our borders are wide open, we need to rebuild our military, and the Islamo-nazis in Iran are building ICBM’S, yet we are a nation that wastes its time accusing Donald Trump Jr. of collusion with Russia. The New York Times piece says nothing and is smearing Trump Jr. Trump Jr. along with Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort met with a Russian lawyer. We are told that this is evidence of dishonesty yet the New York Times does not offer any evidence that the lawyer had ties to the Kremlin or that she provided any damaging information to Trump Jr. He met with the Russian lawyer and that is it. If anything, this demonstrates that there was no collusion between President Trump and Russia. How did the three people who leaked to the New York Times even get access to this information? This happens endlessly to Republican administrations.

In addition, the Hillary Clinton campaign colluded with the Ukrainian government to get information on Paul Manafort who was part of the Trump campaign. A DNC official Alexander Chalupa approached the Ukrainian government for this information and then shared it with the Clinton campaign. How was this any different from Trump Jr.’s situation?” Emph added, jb

Pat Buchanan,“Alone Perhaps, But Is Trump Right?”

HT InfoWars

“At the G-20 in Hamburg, it is said, President Trump was isolated, without support from the other G-20 members, especially on climate change and trade.

“Perhaps so. But the crucial question is not whether Trump is alone, but whether he is right. Has Trump read the crisis of the West correctly? Are his warnings valid? Is not the Obama-Merkel vision of a New World Order a utopian fantasy?

“At the monument to the patriots of the Warsaw Uprising, Trump cited Poland as exemplar of how a great people behaves in a true national crisis.

“Calling the Polish people ‘the soul of Europe,’ he related how, in the Miracle of the Vistula in 1920, Poland, reborn after 12 decades of subjugation, drove back the invading Red Army of Leon Trotsky.

“He described the gang rape of Poland by Nazis and Soviets after the Hitler-Stalin pact. He cited the Katyn Forest massacre of the Polish officer corps by Stalin, and the rising of the Polish people against their Nazi occupiers in 1944, as the vulturous legions of Stalin watched from the safe side of the river.

“When the Polish Pope, John Paul II, celebrated his first Mass in Victory Square in 1979, said Trump, ‘a million Polish men, women and children raised their voices in a single prayer. … ‘We want God.’ … Every Communist in Warsaw must have known that their oppressive system would soon come crashing down.’ And so it did.

“The crisis of the West today, said Trump, is akin to what Poland faced. For it is about the survival of a civilization, rooted in Christianity, that has made the greatest of all contributions to the ascent of man.

“What enabled the Poles to endure was an unshakable belief in and a willingness to fight for who they were — a people of God and country, faith, families, and freedom — with the courage and will to preserve a nation built on the truths of their ancient tribe and Catholic traditions.

“Given the threats to the West, from within and without, said Trump, we need such a spirit now. What are those threats?

“The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive. Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost? Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders? Do we have the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization in the face of those who would subvert and destroy it?

“We can have the largest economies and the most lethal weapons anywhere on Earth, but if we do not have strong families and strong values, then we will be weak and we will not survive.”

“Trump professed confidence in the West’s will to survive. . .”
